The Principles of Thermal Transfer

An image is printed using ink transfered from the ribbon and bonded to a flexible substrate by applying pressure

and heat to release the format via energised dots.

An encoder reads the speed of the substrate and feeds the information to the printer. The ribbon moves at the same speed as the substrate.
