Theresienthal 1836 In 1836 Franz Steigerwald of Prague founded by appointment of H. M. King Ludwig I. of Bavaria the “Royally Privileged Crystal-Works Theresienthal“. The name pays homage to the King’s wife, Queen Therese. From the early beginnings Theresienthal’s beautiful glasses were designed by renowned artists and crafted by the most skil- ful workers. The unique glasses you see in this brochure are called “RÖMER” . The main designer for our RÖMER glasses was the professional painter and niece of the founder Henriette Steigerwald. The design is very typical for this era: German arts and literature in the 2nd half of the 1800s were dominated by romanticism and the reflections to the glorious German history. The RÖMER glass refers to medieval drinking habits and aesthetics. They get crafted at the same place, with the same techniques and with the same dedication as the first one of their kind more than 120 years ago.
