18th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)— 2nd August 2020

“There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.”

When we consider the ministry of Jesus, we often think of his teaching and healing. However, He also fed those crowds who came to him.

Jesus’ feeding is both metaphorical—in the sense he feeds his listeners with the word of God, but— as we see in today’s gospel—he also feeds the crowds in a practical way—providing them with more than enough food for their needs.

Similarly, in our Eucharist today Jesus feeds us with his body and blood, nourishing us with his love, sustaining us for our journey of life. May we in confidence journey to the one who truly satisfies our every hunger. If you’re going away at this time, I wish you a pleasant jour-ney & break. Fr D. During the month of August, please note the following Mass provision:

Corpus Christi - will be available for private prayer each Sunday during Au-gust from 11am-2pm. Thank you to our welcomers for their assistance.

Sacred Heart - Public Mass will be celebrated each Sunday at 10.15am (this Mass will also be livestreamed). During the week, Mass will be cele-brated via our livestream – on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10am. At our Sunday Mass. there will be three levels of participation: those seated inside the Church, those participating outside of the Church and also via our livestream.

In adhering to social distancing guidelines and due to the size of Sacred Heart Church, the number of parishioners who can sit inside is limited to 21 places. These places will be prioritised to those who are aged over 70 and/or those with mobility issues. Wheelchair users must be accompanied by a carer. If you fulfil this criteria, and are a parishioner of either Corpus Christi or Sacred Heart, I ask you to book your place by calling each Monday be-tween 11-11.30am.

We also have the great blessing of having extensive grounds at Sacred Heart, and so we will ‘audio transmit’ the Mass to those people who wish to be outside of the Church whilst Mass is being celebrated.

I would encourage all other parishioners who wish to attend Mass, to take up this option and to socially distance whilst in the grounds of the Church. For your own comfort, I suggest you to bring your own chair.

Holy Communion will be distributed both inside and outside of the Church during Mass, with stewards in attendance to help with logistics.

Confessions are available by appointment. Please do call or email Fr David.

Once again, thank you so much for your continued support during this strange and unprecedented time.

Message to Corpus Christi parishioners from Anne Berry—”My gratitude to members of the parish who looked after Vincent during his final illness is incalculable. These acts of kindness and the amazing turnout in Langdon Street and at the cemetery show exactly why Vincent was so happy in Tring. I hope to be able to attend his memorial mass, whenever that may

take place, and talk to many more of you than was possible at the funeral.”
