Paul, in Galatians 3:28, states the following, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” In the first century in most cultures there were various organizations and places where membership was restricted. Some religions would only let the “enlightened” in for membership. The Jews would only let those in who were born Jewish or those who accepted the complete conversion package, which consisted of circumcision, keeping the Sabbath, and eating clean foods as specified by the Torah (the Law of Moses). Still other places only allowed men. Some places were only for the rich. Paul is writing to Gentile Christians who are being told by Jewish Christians that they must accept the conversion package of the Jews. Paul wants them to see that this is no longer the case. You should notice in the verse above that Paul really emphasizes that they are not to be exclusionary in membership. He points out three categories (racial/religious, social, and gender) and has this phrase, “there is neither,” in front of each category. Paul didn’t give a simple list but rather puts “teeth” in his list through that phrase. In other words, DON’T RESTRICT MEMBERSHIP based on these categories. While the first category has the most relevance to the Galatians, Paul’s additional categories inform future Christians that membership in Christ (i.e. the body of Christ, the church) is not controlled by restrictions that we humans make in our cultures, but rather by the New Testament itself. In fact, the verse beforehand states that all who were baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ (Galatians 3:27). So anyone who is baptized into Christ should be accepted fully as a member of any congregation because, in Christ, we are all ONE. - Bob -

Notes of Encouragement GOD’S FAMILY
We're part of the family that's been born again; Part of the family whose love knows no end;
For Jesus has saved us, and made us His own, Now we're part of the family that's on its way home.
And sometimes we laugh together, sometimes we cry, Sometimes we share together, heartache and sighs;
Sometimes we dreams together of how it will be When we all get to heaven, God's family.
Hymn # 744 vs.1 Lanny Wolfe © 1974
Bible Classes: We have great Bible classes every Sunday morning and Wednesday night for all ages. Children’s Worship: Children will be dismissed to meet in the foyer after the offering. Please pick your kids up from the Youth Room after service. Park Day: Our next Park Day for Kingdom Kids is tentatively scheduled for February 19th at Lake Idamere in Tavares. Be sure to pack a lunch and join us after morning services. Acts 20:7, 11 (NIV): “On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight… Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left.” Pop Quiz Answer (last week): Priscilla and Aquilla taught Apollos the word of God more accurately while in Ephesus. True or false? Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
