THE TRUTH THAT FREES
There are different ways to view things that produce freedom. Some are from God, others from Satan
Introduction Geographical truth—Austin is the capital of
Texas, not Dallas or San Antonio Historical truth—George Washington was our
first President under the Constitution, not Abraham Lincoln or Barak Obama
Mathematical truth—two plus two equal four, not three or five
Chemical truth—two molecules of hydrogen and one of oxygen yields water, not sulfuric acid or salt
Biological truth—if you plant a tomato seed, you get a tomato plant, not corn or bean plants
Introduction
Every realm of our existence has the understanding of truth.
Truth Is ALWAYS present. The word “truth” is defined as
“conformity to fact or reality.” Truth never changes, it is always
right and real while the facts may change.
Introduction In many ways, Bible Truths are handled
differently. Or so man thinks. Many have freed themselves from God’s
word so as to sin anyway they want without bothering their conscience.
Some change the truth into a lie to promote their own doctrines, beliefs, and teachings.
Many question whether Truth is possible in the religious realm.
Many make up their own truth.
The Truth That Frees John 8:28-32 Jesus here tells us that the only way by
which we can be made free from sin is through the truth.
Specifically following the instructions from the truth.
This also implies that unless we are made free from sin by the truth, we are still in our sins and will be lost.
So, what does the Bible say about The Truth That Frees?
The Truth That Frees Is:
The word of God Jesus said so: Jn. 17:17 God’s word is
truth. He illustrated the importance of the word
in conversion: Luke 8:11-15—seed is the word of God.
Hearing the word should produce faith Romans 10:17.
This is the first step, but then we must be doers: Jas. 1:22-25 doers of the word.
The Truth That Frees Is:
That which should be preached Paul said so: Ephesians 4:11-15 Since the truth that frees is the word, when
we preach the word, we’re preaching the truth: 2 Timothy 4:1-2—preach the word
This is precisely what Jesus wants: Mark 16:15-16, great commission.
Acts 8:4—they went everywhere preaching the word.
The Truth That Frees:
Must be known and understood Again, Paul said so: 1 Timothy 2:3-4—God
desires all men to be saved. The idea of “knowing” implies understanding:
Ephesians 5:17 –but understand what the will of the Lord is.
But how can we come to understand it? Ephesians 3:3-5—by study. Reading Paul’s
understanding 2 Timothy 2:15—study to show yourself
approved of God.
The Truth That Frees: Should be received and believed Once more, Paul said so: 1
Thessalonians 2:13 The idea of “receiving” implies believing:
John 1:12—as many as received...gave them right to become children of God
Receiving and believing the word or truth frees because it saves our souls: James 1:21—receive the word implanted which is able to save your souls.
The Truth That Frees: Must be obeyed Peter said so: 1 Peter 1:22—purified your
souls by obedience to the truth. The benefits of obeying the truth: Romans
6:17-18—no longer slaves of sin. The consequences of not obeying the
truth: 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9—render out retribution to those who know not God, nor keep His commandments.
The Truth That Frees:
Can be ignored. This is what Satan wants. When you have no rules to follow, you
can do what you please. When there are no rules, there is no
standard of authority or judgment. You become free of feeling you are
doing something wrong.
Conclusion
Religious error, no matter how honestly and sincerely believed, can not make one free from sin—only the truth can do that.
You have heard the truth. Do you understood it? do you believe
it?, and have you obeyed the truth that you might be saved and made free from sin?
