literature

Reference sources (dictionaries, encyclopedia)

Books (in-depth overview of a topic)

Many academic books are published by university

presses (e.g. McGill-Queen's University Press, Les

Presses de l'Université de Montréal).

Articles (scholarly, peer-reviewed or referred)

Thesis

Conference papers

Government documents (the results of research

carried out by or for governments)

Peer-reviewed articles

Is this peer-reviewed?

Select “Scholarly or peer-reviewed” as a limiter or

facet in most databases.

Look at journal websites, sections "About us" and

the editorial statements. There should be a mention

of the peer-reviewed process.

Use Ulrich's Periodical Directory If you have a

known title, you can look up in this directory if it is

peer-reviewed.
