The 9th Annual Festival & Street Fair took place on Sunday, October 8, 2017, jointly sponsored by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Yorktown, as scheduled with confidence that the inclement weather would dissipate by late morning, securing this event as a “tradition” in Yorktown. “It is an incredible opportunity for both our business people and the residents of Yorktown,” commented Chamber President Eric DiBartolo.Thousands of residents came out to see close to 200 vendors providing information, promotional giveaways, raffles and games. The food court offered a variety of food and beverages. Live entertainment, face painting, a dog costume parade, a cupcake eating contest, a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross, and a luncheon, enjoyed by more than 300 senior citizens compliments of the neighborhood restaurants and businesses, rounded out a phenomenal day!

When Steve Galper opened Genesis Jewelers on his own in 1987, the store was located in Queens, NY. Now, 30 years later, the business is running well in the Yorktown Heights location. Genesis Jewelers of Yorktown has been a part of the community since April of 2002, when he moved the business to Westchester. Steve has been in the jewelry business since he was 17 years old when his cousin asked his mother if Steve would go work for him. From that moment on, he stuck with it.“If you can dream it, we can make it” has been a mantra of Steve’s. Working with clients to custom design pieces that can be handed down as heirlooms is something he enjoys. When it comes to standing out, it’s all about the service you provide to your customers. If you earn their trust and make them satisfied, then your job is done.Today, Steve and his wife Lara run Genesis. Inside the store, you will always receive a warm welcome and enjoy professional services such as ear piercing, appraisals, engraving, watch batteries and bands while you wait. Stop in to see what’s new in the showcases–from women’s and men’s watches, engagement rings and wedding bands to gold, diamonds and gemstones. Genesis has something for every budget and every occasion.Visit the store at 32 Triangle Center this holiday season! Hours are Monday - Saturday 10 - 6 and open Sundays in December including Christmas Eve Day.Tel: 914-245-3899 ~ Fax: 914-245-0303 32 Triangle Center, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 [email protected] • www.genesisjewelers.com

Club Fit Aquatics Director and Yoga Instructor, Patrick MontgomeryClub Fit Aquatics Director Patrick Montgomery, a man of kaleidoscopic interests, has a simple, guiding philosophy that ensures his constant growth while steering him clear of the
pitfalls of ennui. “Stay active, keep learning, and don’t sweat the small stuff.” As Patrick nears his 70th birthday in November, his life’s palette draws from vibrant art galleries and cultural centers, a not-for-profit organic farm, and the rebuilding of vintage motorcycles and cars. He is a drag racing aficionado, and most recently, Patrick has earned his place as a certified yoga instructor. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Patrick moved to Chicago one week after the 1968 Democratic National Convention riots to continue his post-secondary education at University of Chicago and the Chicago Art Institute. While in Ontario he lived in Toronto and Stratford, pursuing an art career in public museums and galleries. In the late 1970s his art career took him to New York City. Continually evolving and craving new experiences, in 1981 Patrick lived and worked on a not-for-profit organic farm on Cortez Island in British Columbia where he milked cows, cut hay, raised cattle, and pigs. “I often refer to it as a form of graduate school,” he laughs. After that experience he and his wife, Heather, moved to Vancouver where he returned to working in the arts in galleries, his own fine art services business, and as the Executive Director for the Evergreen Cultural Centre. If you ask Patrick what brought them from British Columbia to his Duchess County home, he has one word: family. With two of their three daughters living in New York – and the other in New Orleans – the couple moved back, buying a house in Pleasant Valley. His first
experience with Club Fit was on the maintenance crew taking down the bubble in the spring of 2012. After working for Club Fit, his well-rounded resume, depth of managerial experience, and love of education and programming quickly earned him consideration in other areas of the Club, and in 2014 he became the Aquatics Director for Jefferson Valley. Patrick’s goals for the Aquatic Department are to continue providing high quality services in programming and safety education. “The single most important aspect of the positon is actively making hundreds if not thousands of people safe around water every year,” says Patrick. “In addition, we are introducing people of all ages to a lifetime of aquatics enjoyment that they can pass on to their families -- making world a better place one swimmer at a time!”Throughout Patrick’s life health and wellness have always been a priority, and he dabbled throughout the years in yoga. At the age of 67, however, Patrick was inspired to take his yoga to the next level. “The week after my 67th birthday in 2014, I looked in the mirror, and realized that either I had to do something about my aging body, or prepare for a walker,” he laughed. To gain a deeper understanding into the yoga philosophy and practice, Patrick took the 200-hour teacher training course that Club Fit offers to current and future yoga instructors, as well as serious yoga students. At the time, he participated as a student of yoga, but after six months, Patrick found himself growing, once again, embracing a leadership role in yoga. Now, a certified yoga instructor, Patrick has been added to the Club Fit roster as a substitute yoga instructor and is excited to be working with Club Fit’s Group Fitness Manager to develop a yoga program focused on his peer group. “I hope to assist in prolonging an active and energetic lifestyle that is focused, flexible, and fit,” explains Patrick. Words to live by in everyone’s palette of lifetime experiences. For additional information: 914-245-4040.

Each year, we at the Chamber ask ourselves, can the Annual Festival & Street Fair get any better and, we always seem to top the previous year in some way or the other. This year we seemed to “will” the early morning showers to leave and give us a day with sunshine. I would like to thank everyone who made a contribution. Seems like every year it gets better and better and harder to top.
Once again a great thank you to our police, volunteer ambulance corps, our fire department and town officials for keeping us safe throughout the day. Thank you to our Festival sponsors, Fidelis Care, Camp Nabby, Yorktown News, The Northern Westchester Examiner, Funtime Amusements and Burger King. Without their participation it would be a challenge to put on this event.
Thank you again to Mary Cappocia, Donna Diana and Nancy Calicchia for once again planning the well- attended Senior Luncheon. The following Senior Luncheon donors have our gratitude: Senator Terrence Murphy, Supervisor, Michael Grace, Councilman Tom Diana, Hon. Salvatore Lagonia, Hon. Gary G. Raniolo, County Legislator John Testa, Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli, Councilman Greg Bernard and Councilman Ed Lachterman. We hail our Senior Luncheon Food contributors: Acme Food Store, BJ’s, Burger King, DeCicco’s Markets, 202 Diner, Edwin’s Deli, Fieldhome, Furci’s Restaurant, Homestyle Desserts, Little Sorrento Restaurant, Oscar’s, Thyme Restaurant, Traveler’s Rest, Rita’s Ice, Savannah’s Southern House, Turco’s, Yorktown Diner, Yorktown Grille and Yorktown Pasta & Pizza.
Our Festival Committee deserves praise for the long hours of planning, attending meetings and being there all day ensuring this event would go on as planned. Exciting plans are already underway for our 10th Anniversary Festival & Street Fair!
Please be sure to attend the November 7th Breakfast Networking Meeting at the Coach Diner at 7:30am and our Evening Networking Meeting on November 13 at Solaris Sports Clubs at 6:00pm. Look for the upcoming announcements of our events.
Looking ahead, our 2017 Annual Holiday Party will be on December 7 at Savannah’s Southern House and our 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop on December 31st will round out the Chamber’s 2017 Year!
With the holiday season approaching, please look to Chamber members first for your business needs. We are living in economically challenging and changing times which is all the more reason for us to help each other and think “local.” If we serve each other, we are serving the community in which we live. If our local economy thrives, we will be just fine. Give your Chamber members the opportunity to quote your business needs. It will pay dividends and build your referral base. It is people working together to make their community a better place to live and make a living. Please encourage others to join the Chamber of Commerce.
From all of us at the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends!
As always, my door is always open to all members with any concerns or suggestions.
