Create and write your poem.

Ages 5 & 6

Write a poem about your favourite toy, describing the toy. Your poem should be at least five lines long.

Ages 7 & 8

Use at least five colour words to write a poem titled “A Rainbow of Feelings.” Your poem should have at least two verses with four lines each.

Ages 9 - 15

Create a poem about weather using first person (“I” or “we”), in which you give the reader clues about what kind of weather you are. The very last line of the poem should reveal your identity; for example, “I am a thunderstorm.”

Guideline

Remember to

✓ Start with your plan.

✓ Have a title.

✓ Decide how many lines and verses your poem will have.

✓ Use figurative language

✓ Use rhyming words at the end of the lines of verses.

Submission guideline for all ages:

• The poem should be typed on Microsoft Word using Century Gothic fonts type, size 14

and submitted as a word document. Note the number of words expected for each level.

• All submissions should be uploaded on our website, www.jordanhill.org between Sunday

1st and Friday 20th March 2020 when the portal for submission is opened. The best-written

pieces will be published on the Jordan Hill website at the end of the month.

NOTE: Remember to be original and creative with your work! Any form of plagiarism will have your

submission disqualified. ONLY submissions that follow the guidelines for writing and submission

listed above will be shortlisted for publication on our website.

Reading Challenge- Read any poem of your choice. Learn to recite it by heart. Do a one-minute video of you reciting

the poem

Send the video through WhatsApp to 070165799496 between Sunday

1st and Friday 20th March 2020. The best-done videos will be posted on

the Jordan Hill social media platforms in celebration of World Poetry

Day in March.
