Business — Jane Scupham Volunteering in Our School Just a reminder that, in order for you to be able to volunteer or work in any capacity at the
school, you will need to be Virtus trained and have a current background check on file. The
Diocese is using a different Background Check company, this year, so everyone must have a
Background Check dated after July 1, 2017.
For New Volunteers:
After you have taken the Virtus course, you will need to create a new account on the Vir-
tus.org website. Once created, you will be prompted to do a Background Check. Then, you
will need to read your 24 online Virtus bulletins (1 per month) to complete your training.
For Past Approved Volunteers:
Please log into your Virtus.org account. There, you will be prompted to fill out a New Back-
ground Check Form (this is all done electronically, now).
Portrait retakes and activity pictures will be taken Monday November 6. If your child was ill or absent on Octo-
ber 2 and missed the original portrait date, he/she can have his/her portrait taken on November 6. If you are
unhappy with the first set of photos taken, you must return the original packet on the retake day.
The schedule for the day is included in the white envelope. All group activity, scout and sport teams will have their group pic-
ture taken for the yearbook. See the schedule for the complete list. Please make sure your child has their scouting uniform.
Band and orchestra students should have their uniform shirts and instruments as well. Sports teams will not be wearing their
uniform. Boys’ Volleyball will be taken during their season.
We would love to have all coaches, leaders and assistants to any of the above groups at school to have their pictures taken
with their group. Please join us if your schedule permits. Call Natalia Cox, 707-7253 if you have any questions.

The Diocese of Gary has established the Sexual Misconduct Toward Minors and Others at Risk in July 1993. To implement
this policy as revised on April 1, 2003, a Safe Environment Plan has been established in order to:
∙ provide a safe and secure environment for the children and youth in the faith communities within our Diocese of Gary
∙ assist the Diocese in evaluating a person’s suitability to work with children, youth or the elderly
∙ satisfy the concerns of parents and staff members with a screening process
∙ provide a system to respond to the victims and their families, as well as the accused
∙ reduce the possibility of false accusations against clergy, employees, and volunteers
∙ reduce the risk exposure of the parishes and the Diocese of Gary
Saint Paul Catholic School has procedures to provide a safe environment that protects children from verbal, physical and sexu-
al abuse. Our staff and all volunteers involved with our students are required to participate in a VIRTUS training program
(offered through the Diocese of Gary), as well as have a Criminal History Background Check done. This is a Diocesan-wide
requirement for all schools and parishes.
AS OF JULY 1st, 2017, anyone who has previously completed VIRTUS training and wishes to remain an active volunteer will have to com-
plete a NEW Criminal History Background Check form through their online Virtus account (Virtus.org). The cost will be $15, paid by you,
and is good for 5 years. By December 31, 2017, ALL ACTIVE volunteers must complete this process to continue to volunteer with students at
Saint Paul Catholic School.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A $15 FEE FOR THE CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK. IF
YOU DO NOT PAY, AND SAINT PAUL IS CHARGED, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN INVOICE FOR THIS FEE.
(NOTE: The $15 fee can be considered a charitable donation when filing taxes)

Don’t Mess with These Two Girls Rianne and Amelia Murphy are both were members of the Indiana IGNITES wrestling team which
won a national dual team title at the USAW Girl's Pre-Season National Championships over the
weekend in Indianapolis. The IGNITES defeated teams from Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and
Ohio on their way to the championship. The Murphy girls were a combined 7-1 in their individual
matches during the dual meets. Pictured with the girls is the national championship trophy. We look
forward to seeing what they accomplish in the regular season.
