HORSE PLAY is not allowed and will not be tolerated in ANY Theatre space. This includes the Performing Arts Center, Black Box Theatre, Scene Shop, Dressing Rooms, Light Booth and any

other part of the Theatre complex.

Lifting Heavy Objects

Lift carefully! The proper method for lifting is to bend at the KNEES and push

up with the LEGS.

Accidents

All ACCIDENTS should be reported to Mr. Sharp or Mrs. Alcala immediately

Clean Shop/Classroom

The stage, classroom, and scene shop must be left CLEAN and safe condition at the end of each class, rehearsal, or

work session

Know the location of all FIRE EXITS and EXTINGUISHERS

Call And Response

• When TURNING OFF LIGHTS, USING THE FLY SYSTEM, or doing anything else that concerns everyone, you must call it out as loud as you can.

• Example: “Curtains Going Out”

• Example: “Work Lights Going Out”

• When someone calls something out, respond to them as loudly as you can.

• Example: “Thank you, Heads”

• Example: “Thank you, Work Lights”

Shop Safety Rules

oNever work ALONE . You should never work in the scene shop or theatre without Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp present.

oDo not attempt to use any tool or machine before being fully TRAINED in its use by Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp. It is your responsibility to ask for HELP if you are unsure how to safely use a tool, machine, or stage equipment.

oAlways wear eye and ear PROTECTION when operating any saws or drills.

oKeep floor around tool or machine work area free from SCRAPS and DEBRIS

oWhile operating any power tool or machine, absolute CONCENTRATION is a must. Talking or allowing others to talk to you can distract you form the task at hand . If a conversation is necessary, turn off the tool or machine.

oWork SLOWLY. Do not force the tool or machine to cut a faster rate than it was designed for.

oUse the PROPER tool. Don’t force a tool or machine to do a job for which it was not designed.

oAfter completing a task, clean equipment and work area thoroughly with a brush and/or broom and return tools to their proper STORAGE LOCATIONS.

oAny tool or machine that is BROKEN in any way should be immediately reported to Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp.

oNever operate any tool or machine while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, medication, or if you are EXHAUSTED . Do not work if you might be putting yourself or others at risk of injury.

CLOTHING SAFETY RULES

No Loose Clothing!

Never wear LOOSE clothing of any kind, such as a necktie, gloves, long

sleeves or anything else that might get caught in moving parts.

LONG HAIR should be tired back or covered.

No JEWELRY!

Rings, bracelets, necklaces, wrist watches, and IDs may not be worn while

operating power tools and machinery.

No EARBUDS

Earbud cords can get caught in power tools and be a danger.

Listening to music while working can cause you to miss important warnings

and instructions.

Protective Clothing

oLONG PANTS are recommended when working in the scene shop.

oHard or thick soled shoes should be worn while working in the scene shop. Tennis Shoes are allowed, but not as safe. SANDALS and BARE FEET are not permitted. Your shoes should provide protection that can withstand the weight of heavy objects that might accidently fall on your feet, or SHARP OBJECTS you might step on. NO FLIP FLOPS.

oGLOVES should be worn to protect hands from abrasion and burns when working with hazardous liquids such as chemicals, paints, or solvents.

oLong Sleeves shirts must have SLEEVES ROLLED UP.

Students are not required to use ladders. If you are uncomfortable using ladders,

please inform Mr. Sharp.

Do not STAND or SIT on the top of any ladder.

MORE LADDER RULES

oAny time a student climbs OVER 6 FEET on a ladder, it must be held by another student or teacher.

oDo not leave anything SITTING on the steps of a ladder or on the top of a ladder.

oMake sure the ladder is STURDY before climbing.

oDo not LEAN or OVERREACH while on a ladder.

oNever move a ladder or personnel lift while SOMEONE IS ON IT.

oAlways maintain THREE POINTS OF CONTACT when climbing up or down.
