As suggested by student comments on the assessment survey, instructor is considering adjusting the organization of the course information on Blackboard to make it easier for students to find information and submit their work. Additionally, instructor is considering adding pop-up reminders to assist students in meeting due dates for assignments. These changes should assist more students to reach the expected student learning outcome for this course. However, overall data demonstrates that the students who completed the survey successfully understood the historical, social, cultural, and aesthetic constructs that led to the development of Musical Theater as a significant art form at an acceptable level.

THEA G108 cSLO 3 2013 - 2014 (Fall 2013)

As suggested by student comments on the assessment survey, instructor is considering the following changes: 1. Set two deadlines for reviews instead of an end-of-the-semester deadline2. Add a “Shows to See” category link that covers musicals in the area3. Change point grading scale, 3 points per assignment seemed to make students think they could miss assignments and did not give enough flexibility in grading4. Lecture each week instead of in discussion page5. Place all info in one area only with links to homework, review, tests and discussions. These changes will allow students to reach the expected student learning outcome for this course.

As suggested by student comments on this assessment survey, I will spend more time reinforcing the requirement to read the assigned plays and slow down to allow more time for students to gather all the information on the presentations. The assignment of a written final examination and a self-developed movement scene became an important and valuable project that will continue to be a requirement in this Theater Arts course. The assignment required critical thinking, analysis and evaluation as well as physical realization of the principals and skills taught. Instructor developed this final after being disappointed in previous final assignments but found that this integrated final demonstrated actual knowledge acquired then implemented by the students.
