TheZambezi Collection

The great Zambezi River brings life to a diverse set of plants and wildlife and has

provided the Ardmore ceramicists with a bounty of inspiration for their creations,

which led to the birth of this collection.

Featuring designs which draw on the artistry of the Ardmore ceramicists’ magical

creations, the Zambezi Collection is an invitation to return to the grandeur of nature,

and encompasses five new motifs which portray tales and elements of life around the

Zambezi.

Along with our distinctive linen, we selected fine silk and cotton velvet on which to

showcase this collection, each cloth adding a special element of style to the fabric’s

design.

The Zambezi Collection

selected to compliment the story printed on it.

SPECIFICATIONS

Mischievous monkeys play and hide amongst the Lucky Bean trees in this elegant

design. Africa’s beautiful coral trees, also known as Lucky Bean trees are valuable

plants to the ecosystem, providing food and shelter for a variety of birds, animals

and insects. Lucky Bean trees are also buried on the graves of Zulu chiefs and are

associated with magic in the Zulu culture. Repeat measures 76.5cm.

Monkey Bean

Crocodiles and Strelitzia, or Bird of Paradise flowers, combine with vines and banana

leaves in this design which celebrates these ancient reptiles and beautiful flora of

the Zambezi basin. Repeat measures 74.5cm.

River Chase

Leopards and Black Backed Jackals provide the heart of this design, which

showcases these seldom seen night-time predators back-to-back. Appropriate since

they are known to be cunning hunters. The design also features Ardmore artist Jabu

Nene’s flower in the middle to link the repeat and an organically imperial ribbon as a

stripe. Repeat measures 76cm.

Bush Bandits

The design has been taken from the natural geometric patterns that occur on the

wings of African birds. Evolved from the scales of reptiles, feathers set birds apart

from all other animals and are necessary for flight, insulation and courtship displays.

Repeat measures 21.6cm.

Feather

Amasumpas are small nodules which feature in Zulu traditional pots and underline

the endless circle of life. In this range they appear alongside leopard print which

refers to Zulu royalty, who choose this big cat’s pelt to showcase their authority.

ARTINTO DESIGN

Ardmore Design was established as an extension of

Ardmore Ceramic Art, producing beautifully designed

fabric, soft-furnishings, lifestyle products for the home

and accessories.

The designs created for these items are inspired by the art

elements of the ceramic pieces from Ardmore Ceramics

which is known for its ornate ceramic art pieces and was

established by Fée Halsted who is the creative force

behind it all.

Ardmore Design looks to discover, develop, and distribute

luxury designs that will play a role in sustaining the

creative lives of the continent’s artistic community

and feed the appetite of the world for African sourced

products.
