Greetings!
The Annual General Meeting for Evergreen Local No 11 was held on Thursday, February 7 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. This was our first year holding it at Teacher's Convention and I look forward to hearing your comments and thoughts about continuing this same format next year. I am pleased to report that we have filled all executive positions and almost all other positions available! If you are interested in becoming a more active member in your local, contact your school rep for more information. We are always looking for more people! It was a great pleasure to see so many of you take time out of your schedule to attend the AGM during NCTCA Convention 2014! I hope you all had a wonderful Convention, it was extremely well thought out and put together. A huge thank you to Fiona, Mike and Jodi for all of your hard work as our convention reps. Thank you to everyone who graciously agreed to chair and/or present sessions! It is wonderful to see Evergreen teachers so involved in their own PD. Hi, my name is Bernice Rutley and I am originally from Nova Scotia where I taught for 34 years. I wanted a new adventure and so my daughter, her husband and myself left the Maritimes with 2 cats, 2 cars and our life!
I have taught in 6 different schools since coming to Alberta, from a school for homeschooling to a Jewish Academy and a Dutch Christian School. I must say that I love the mountains the best and after two years in Drayton Valley, I was very glad to come to Grande Cache.
My husband is home in Ontario with our cat, my daugh-ter is in Calgary and my son is in Japan so life is good! Sheldon Coates is a great school and I am very happy here!

Inside Our Schools
You may wonder what teachers do on a brisk winter morning during the Jas-
per in January Festival. Well here is the answer: you get half dressed up in old
hockey sweaters, bike up to Pyramid Lake, Ski 5 km around the lake, run 2.5
km around the lake in snowshoes, skate 6 km on a crack laden ice surface and
finally run 6 slippery km through the bush as part of the Jasper Winter Pen-
tathlon Hivernal. Though it was cold (real cold!) in the morning, the sunshine
and exercise had this group of
“Halfwits” smiling at the Pyra-
mid Lake site. Pictured in the
usual order are Lauren
“Sprinter” Kennedy, Fred
“Sk8ter Boy” Kreiner, Geoff
“The Mad Biker” Fraser, Jona-
than “Snowplow” Thornton
and Amelia “The Slider” Bird.
Team number 1 managed a
respectable 9th place finish
among the 16 participating
teams. Also witnessed at the
event was our faithful Tech-
nology coordinator, Kurt
“Barbie” Scobie who entered a
team. The Halfwits are issu-
ing a 2015 challenge to other
schools to put in a team and
have some fun at this annual
event!
