YRSRH has Adar-able things in store for this

month… see inside for some truly “class”y sales!

Dearest תלמידים and לאי"ט ,תלמידות:

This week, our Yeshiva suffered a great loss. Many of you did not know the chairman of our Yeshiva’s board, Rabbi Edwin Katzenstein ז"ל, because he never flaunted all that which he did, for our Yeshiva in particular, and for .as a whole כלל ישראל

Even at his לויה, in which many of us participated, he requested that we not mention the many tremendous, positive things that he did, but rather instructed that they remain unspoken. Rabbi Katzenstein was what we call a “כלל mensch" - Much of his time and energy was spent caring for the needs of other Yidden, as a leader of institutions and organizations, as well as

seeing to the needs of individuals. It is interesting that in the building of the משכן the Jewish people are commanded – ועשו לי מקדש on which רש"י explains that this means לשמי–לי . There is a requirement in the building of the משכן that it be done with specific intent of building for the sake of the Name of 'ד – with no ulterior motives.

The גמרא in tells us that מסכת ע"זwas once teaching in public in defiance of the תורהlocal law. רבי יוסי questioned whether he really should be putting himself and his students in danger. He responded that he had complete trust in 'ד that the people would be protected in the of their learning. Later in the זכותconversation רבי חנינא told רבי יוסי that he knows that he has זכויות to be a בן עולם הבא because one time his personal money got mixed up with money

In honor of 2 ,פרשת תרומהnd and 3rd grade joined for a 2 and 3-D presentation! Hosted by Rabbi Margaliot, the boys got a multidimensional look at the כלים of the משכן. Using the ArtScroll multimedia Mishkan

DVD, the boys got to see a model of each of the major vessels of the משכן as

3-D, rotatable and zoom-able projected images. Along with the visuals, Rabbi Margaliot spoke out

the features of the כלים from this week’s סדרא, answering questions

and making the משכן‘s structures come into focus… in living color.

What’s in Store for Kindergarten?

Kindergarten donned their chef hats to open up what may have been the first YRSRH Pizzaria to date. Complete with side dishes

including French fries, drinks and popcorn, kindergarteners learned how to plan a menu with prices, organize and serve food with utensils, and host chashuve guests… seen below is our Menahel, Rabbi Moller, being served by proud YRSRH pizza store managers.



‘כתה א girls, shown above, have been working on watching their words!

Led by Morah Plotzker, they have initiated a program called NSS which they are all using on a constant basis. The letters NSS help them to think before they speak - "Is it Nice? Will it make someone Smile? Should I Say it?".

Thinking about these things before we speak is really helping us improve the way that

we speak!

G.O. leader and 1st grade Morah, Morah Plotzker, fed the girls a memorable mussar lesson in honor of

„ראש חודש אדר א ... that is, for those who dared to taste it. Girls from 1st to 5th grade were challenged to concoct the most palatable

item they could create given only 4, not so harmonious, edible ingredients.

With Rabbi Moller, Mrs. Gottesman, and Morah Schippel as judges, the results were reported as looking fantastic... that

is, since each one declined to taste them. The message for the Adar Season we now begin, however, is clear: Life delivers you ingredients... to achieve Simcha, make the

very best you can out of them! ‘כתה ג has been very productive… shown above with

beautiful hand-crafted Tu B’Shevat flowers. The lifelike silky flowers adorned a concealed “pencil” stem, proving to be sturdy and long lasting, bringing Simcha all the way through to ח אדר א“ר„ !

As a culminating activity in עברית, Morah Lomnitz’s כתה ג„ wrote books…all in עברית! The books, shown to the right, are about two children: a boy and a girl. The girls wrote beautiful sentences to describe the illustrations in the books, which they colored and decorated themselves. It was a sterling achievement of creative עברית literature. !עבודה מצוינת

that had been set aside for a סעודת פורים for poor people, and because he didn’t know which money was his and which belonged to the poor, he decided to give everything to the poor. This גמרא really requires explanation! Wasn’t רבי the great person who spent his entire life חנינאlearning and teaching 'תורת ד, even risking his life to do so? Why was he certain that this story

with the money, specifically, was his ticket to עולם הבא? Rav Shach גמרא explained this זצ"לas follows: רבי חנינא had certainly

amassed great זכויות through the teaching of but his learning and teaching was public ,תורהknowledge. By contrast, this incident with the money was something that no one knew about. This explains why רבי חנינא was certain that the

story of the money would get him a חלק in He understood that it was .עולם הבאspecifically the מצות ומעשים טובים that are done in private that would ensure him a

because it is those that are done ,עולם הבא in חלקin private that are certainly done לשמה - for the sake of serving הקב"ה - and with no ulterior motives. We must always be searching for ways to do great things. However let us be sure that even when we are out of the public eye, we are doing what is right and helping make the world a better place. Rabbi Katzenstein ז"ל taught us well. There are loads of things that he did for our Yeshiva, קהילה and כלל ישראל that we do know about, but at the same time there is plenty that he did that we know nothing about. יהי זכרו ברוך.
