10:00 – 10:15 Conference Opening Remarks

10:15 – 11:00 Opening Session and Theme of our Conference – What would Dubai winning the Expo 2020 as the host city mean for Retail in the MENA region?

on november 27th the decision will be announced globally who the host city will be of EXPo 2020. our belief is Dubai will win the EXPo 2020 bid. Phil McArthur and his panel will discuss the impact of what winning the host city will mean to dubai and the mena region retail growth. our panel will discuss the retail implications, benefits and planning for hosting EXPo 2020. our twin themes - the Year of Growth and What would Dubai winning the Expo 2020 as the host city mean for retail in the MENA region? is the discussion. this panel discussion will set the tone for retail growth in the mena region over the next seven years. Come and learn why.

11:00 – 12:15 Retailer panel discussion. Blaze of Opportunity.

the middle east has emerged as a key market for global retailers and the shopping centre industry in particular is experiencing unprecedented growth. dubai has retained its position as the second most important international retail destination globally, closely behind london, the emirate ranks in fourth place amongst the world’s hottest retail markets with 25 new retailer entries during 2012, including american retailer franklin & marshall, italian polo heritage brand Galvanni. Within this session we will take a look at why retailers are continuing to seek locations in the middle east particularly when it is becoming a bit crowded in some of the markets? We will examine how many store locations are needed for a successful retail roll out in the region, whilst exploring the best performing retail locations city by city together with the importance of the retail mix and adjacencies. Finally we will take a look at how the ‘high street venue’ can be configured to be more successful in the Middle Eastern markets?

Jayne Rafter from RLI magazine moderates the panel. participants include Duncan McLellan, GM, Dubai Holding Group, Maitha Al Dossari, Chief Operating Officer, Emaar Retail LLC and the General Manager, Corporate Services at Emaar Properties PJSC. Neil Roberts, International Franchise Director for Boux Avenue, Jeremy Johnston, CEO, Zohoor Alreef and Keith Watson, Director of Aspinal of London.

12:15 – 12:45 Knowing the current trends in development, design and construction can make the difference between taking control of the marketplace or losing sight of the realities you must consider. high performing mixed-use retail environments are sought after by tenants, property owners, investors and consumers. developers seek to create sustainable income streams and high quality assets by developing centres that will operate successfully for generations. understanding how to create the sense of place which people desire in these environments and how design for sustained use is an art form and their success is based upon many factors. Yaromir Steiner of Steiner & Associates discusses mixed use projects and how these complex buildings work specifically in the mena region and around the world.
