After capturing Kiev, the Germans redeployed their forces for the assault on Moscow. They had a superiority of two to one in men and tanks, three to one in the air. When the weather changed, it did little to help the German cause. By November 27, units of the Third Panzer Group reached the Volga Canal, establishing the Yakhroma bridgehead but were soon faced by Soviet counterattacks.
