Leading in a digital world represents a complex and new set of skills that every CIO needs to arm themselves with.

New this year, the CIO Program agenda includes focused subthemes:

Digital growth

The expectations of business and public-sector leaders have changed dramatically as a result of the erosion of competitive barriers, the accelerating tempo of markets and the increased demands of citizens and policy makers on the front lines of government missions. It’s no longer enough for IT to improve operational effi ciency; instead, technology is now expected to fuel a new wave of business growth and mission effectiveness.

Innovation and leadership

In order to meet the expectations of the market and excel in their missions, organizations must innovate — but not with “fast follower” strategies that fail to differentiate, nor with entrepreneurism that relies on individual prowess and luck. Rather, CIOs must develop multilevel and multilateral teams to engage with the business, systemically driving innovation.

Operational and organizational excellence

Now more than ever before, CIOs need a strong foundation in back-offi ce IT. As business demands increase and accelerate, jumping from one fi re to the next wastes valuable time and makes it impossible to focus. What’s needed is the kind of operational and organizational excellence that supports long-term enterprise innovation and growth.

The CIO Program at Symposium/ITxpo

Based on direct input from more than 2,000 CIOs, The CIO Program at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2013 offers a comprehensive agenda with the most timely, relevant content available.

Gartner Symposium 2012 in Goa was a well-organized, well planned event covering the present key areas in the work life of CIOs & IT Senior Management. Combining of Social Media, Mobility, Big Data & Cloud computing is a very logical step yet very complex one. Focus on the Nexus of these forces was well appreciated by the participants in the symposium. Spread of sessions, one on one meetings, round tables, etc. were well thought of. I would like to thank Gartner for this symposium. Over all a great experience.
