Save Money While Conserving Energy

It’s typically during our hot Arizona summers when we see our electricity bills skyrocket! How can we remain comfortable in our own homes and conserve energy at the same time?

Richard Rosales from APS will join us Wednes-day, July 22nd at 5:30 p.m. to provide some help-

ful tips that will prove useful all year long, but especially when those bills hit our wallets the hardest.

Richard will also go over different APS pro-grams and money saving options.

Registration is encouraged. Please call (520) 723-6030 or email [email protected].

This is an all ages event and is free to all!

Please Note: All those who submitted completed reading logs will be entered into a prize raffle. The raffle winners will be selected at

this party and winners must be present to receive a prize. Please contact the library at (520) 723-6030 with questions or concerns.

Back to School Supply Program

Families that purchase back to school supplies often spend as much as $50 per child.

Thanks to a grant from Target, the Coolidge Pub-lic Library is offering back to school supplies to children this summer. All children in grades K-12 are invited to come in each week between now and July 18 for a back to school supply.

They are not required to have a parent with them. They must simply register at the front desk.

Quantities are limited. Because we started this program in June, we may not have some of the supplies that we had in the beginning of the program.

Library Closed over Holiday Weekend

We will be closed Friday and Saturday, July 3rd and 4th. We will re-open Monday, July 6th at 8:00 a.m. The bookdrops will both be accessible during the closure. Please call (520) 723-6030 for any questions related to your account.

You can visit pinalcountyaz.gov/library and log into your account at all times using your library card and 4-digit pin number.

Go Set a Watchman - Adult Fiction (Coming Soon!) By Harper Lee

Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014. Go Set a Watchman features many of the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird some twenty years later. Returning home to Maycomb to visit her father, Jean Louise Finch—Scout—struggles with issues both personal and political, involving Atticus,

society, and the small Alabama town that shaped her. Exploring how the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird are adjusting to the turbulent events transforming mid-1950s America, Go Set a Watchman casts a fascinating new light on Harper Lee’s enduring classic. Moving, funny and compelling, it stands as a magnificent novel in its own right. ~ Provided by publisher In the Unlikely Event - Adult Fiction By Judy Blume

In 1987, Miri Ammerman returns to her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey, to attend a commemoration of the worst year of her life. Thirty-five years earlier, when Miri was fifteen, and in love for the first time, a succession of airplanes fell from the sky, leaving a community reeling. Against this backdrop of actual events that Blume experienced in the early 1950s, when airline travel was new and exciting and everyone dreamed of going somewhere,

she paints a vivid portrait of a particular time and place—Nat King Cole singing “Unforgettable,” Elizabeth Taylor haircuts, young (and not-so-young) love, explosive friendships, A-bomb hys-teria, rumors of Communist threat. And a young journalist who makes his name reporting trag-edy. Through it all, one generation reminds another that life goes on. ~ Provided by publisher

5 to 1 - Young Adult Fiction By Holly Bodger

In the year 2054, after decades of gender selection, India now has a ratio of five boys for every girl, making women an incredibly valuable commodity. Tired of marrying off their daughters to the highest bidder and determined to finally make marriage fair, the women who form the country of Koyanagar have instituted a series of tests so that every boy has the chance to win a wife.

Sudasa doesn’t want to be a wife, and Kiran, a boy forced to compete in the test to become her husband, has other plans as well. Sudasa’s family wants nothing more than for their daughter to do the right thing and pick a husband who will keep her comfortable—and caged. Kiran’s family wants him to escape by failing the tests. As the tests advance, Sudasa and Kiran thwart each other at every turn until they slowly realize that they just might want the same thing. This beautiful, unique novel is told from alternating points of view—Sudasa’s in verse and Kiran’s in prose—allowing readers to experience both characters’ pain and their brave struggle for hope. ~ Provided by publisher Driven By Emotions (Disney/ Pixar Inside Out) - Juvenile Fiction By Elise Allen
