The Woodlake A Father Wears Many Hats! Father’s Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate our dads or father figures and show appreciation for all they do for us. Dads are usually fixers; we break stuff, they fix it. We can’t figure out how to make something work, they make it look easy. They have a way of making us feel special without doting over us like mom always does! Being a dad is hard work. You are looked to for guidance, reassurance, confidence, validity, love and support. Typically, the dad does the disciplining; it’s not easy to be the “bad guy” and still find a way to teach and help your children grow emotionally. I had a pretty cool dad. He was not your average dad, he was a unique soul who couldn’t be tied down. He had his days where we would do fun, wild, crazy adventures. Then there would be times that I hardly ever saw him. He worked on cars in his free time; I remember always having a few “project cars” in the driveway, which drove my step-mother crazy! He was charismatic, fun, everyone’s best friend and the life of the party. I had a special relationship with my dad. My siblings all had their unique relationships with him, but my dad and I connected on a special level. I was always honest with him, and he with me; this made for some interesting conversations and a close bond that couldn’t be broken. He taught me a lot about many different things, like dads usually do. I cherish those lessons and conversations. Dads don’t usually get to hear how appreciated they are, they just do what needs to be done, without expectation of recognition or celebration. Dads are our protectors; no one messes with his kids! That is if his kids didn’t start something; if you started it, dad was not going to have any sympathy for you. Lesson learned! Dads are also the fun ones, always testing the limits of mom’s patience. After all, dads are like big kids! My dad was the biggest kid around. You could hardly ever take him seriously; unless he was mad, you better then! My dad was also a very intelligent man. He knew a lot about many things; it seemed to come natural to him. He was a math whiz! I’m pretty good at math too, and he used to say I got it from him. He would say that about anything similar to him by any of his kids. My sister hates cheese, my dad hated cheese too, guess what he used to say to her all the time, “you got that from me!” When I had children of my own, dad became grandpa, like most of you dads eventually do. He was a great grandpa. It seems dads get a sparkle in their eye when they become grandpas. The pride and joy in them swells and is unmistakable. Dads have a way of making things okay and making us feel like we can do anything. Dads are a special breed, like super heroes, always protecting, teaching and doing the impossible! The Woodlake salutes you fathers, we are proud to be here to support you, appreciate you and serve you. Happy Father’s Day to all you amazing father figures out there. Hats off to you! Spreading love and support in the Kindness Parade. Thank you to Essential Workers, the real heroes! The Woodlake Team loved spreading joy by delivering delicious pies made from our kitchen! June Is in the Air!Who doesn’t love June? The sun is shining, butterflies are fluttering, kids are getting freed from their everyday trudge to school and summer is beginning! Well, this year is a bit different isn’t it? We have all had to adjust to a new way of life, kiddos haven’t had to trudge to school for a few months now and though summer is beginning, we are not hosting the regular gatherings as we normally would. It’s a new way of life, and it’s hard to make that adjustment! That being said, we here at The Woodlake will not let this get us down! We will continue to engage in new ways of socializing and challenging ourselves to maintain a healthy and happy mind, body and soul. June invites outdoor activities, things like BBQs, swimming, tournaments, sports, camping, hiking, you name it! Here at The Woodlake, we are committed to enjoying the beautiful weather, including many of the things mentioned above as well as creative new ways to stay active while following the guidelines of social distancing. Think outside of the box, that’s what we do! What sort of things have you been doing to keep active? What ideas do you have for socializing and enjoying your favorite pastimes while staying safe and healthy? We want to hear from you! Give us your ideas, and we will implement them in our daily activities and events. You will have a chance to win a great prize for participating in our “Ideas Sweepstakes Challenge” and not only win by enjoying great programs but also for sharing your ideas and helping us open up great ideas for all to enjoy! Please give your ideas to Tanysha or Mason in the Activity Department; no idea is a bad idea! Good luck, and may the force be with you!

This Jokes on You!It just so happens we have a pretty hilarious team here at The Woodlake. We wanted to share with you some of our best jokes; what’s yours?

“A frog by the name of Kermit Jagger walks into a bank. Walks right up to a teller named Patti Whack. He says he’s there for a loan of $100k. Patti looks confused and says, ‘for a loan that size we would need some collateral.’ The frog digs in his pocket and pull out a tiny pink, ceramic elephant and sets it on the counter. Patti, again confused, says she is going to have to speak to her supervisor. She walks up to her boss and says, ‘there’s a frog by the name of Kermit Jagger out here asking for a loan of $100k, and when I asked for collateral, he pulled this out of his pocket and set it down. What in the world is this?!” The boss replies, “It’s a knick-knack, Patti Whack, give the frog a loan, his old man’s a rolling stone!”
