Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we begin a new year, we are frequently drawn to reflect on the past to help us move forward. Our students and staff have been working extremely hard to promote leadership and encourage a sense of collaboration, cooperation and community. During December, with the support of our School Council, we collected food for the Vaughan Food Bank to support families in need during the holiday season. Our Student Leadership Team also held a toy drive to support CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish Foundation. Our S.L.T. collected over 70 toys to deliver to the foundation. We are proud of the leadership, direction and accomplishments of our staff and students, and the
response from our community. Thank you for your generosity in sharing with others in need.
During the last month of the year, we enjoyed our Kindergarten Concert and our Junior Intermedi-ate Winterlude Concert. These concerts highlighted the artistic, dramatic and musical talents of our students. Our Kindergarten students and students from grades four to eight delighted their families with songs, band performances and dances. We are so proud of our students and extend sincere congratulations to them and our staff for outstanding performances. We look forward to our Primary Winter Concert on January 25, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Please join us to celebrate our
primary students!
This year for the first time, our School Council held a Winter Boutique Night. The evening was a success with over 40 vendors. We would like to thank our council for their continued support and dedication to our students and community. Thank you to all community members who came out to
support this amazing event!
Each member of our staff - our administrative assistants, caretakers, child and youth work-ers, DECEs, educational assistants, school lunch assistants and teachers - are dedicated
to making Woodbridge an inclusive and safe environment. Together with our students, parents and School Council, we look for opportunities to create a strong school community. We appreci-ate and value your ongoing support and invite you to keep this vibrant partnership strong. Our strength comes from effective communication of a shared purpose and common vision, which is continued student achievement and well-being. Please consider volunteering in our school, or
attending our School Council meetings this year.
We look forward to another year of learning and growth with your children. Happy New Year to
you and your families.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Morgan Ms. De Rose Principal Vice Principal

French Immersion Information Session and Registration
French Immersion registration will take place from January 19 - February 9, 2018
Information sessions for the French Immersion (FI) program will take place at French Immersion schools on January 18, 2018 at 7 p.m. FI registration will begin January 19, 2018. In order to streamline the registration process, parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2018, and wishing to enrol in the FI Program, can visit or call their home school office (where your child currently attends) and request an Office Index Card - short version. The Office Index Card must be signed by the principal of the home school. Parents or guardians then take this form, along with one piece of identification showing their address to your designated French Immersion school to register between January 19 and February 9, 2018. This eliminates the need to
provide duplicate enrolment information or to pre-register.
Late registrations are those submitted after February 9, 2018. Late registrations will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis and
will be considered subsequent to registrations received during the registration period should overflow be necessary.
Families registering students who do not currently attend a YRDSB school will need to complete full registration paperwork at their
designated FI school. Information required for registration includes:
Proof of child’s age (Birth Certificate/Passport)
Any legal documents related to custody arrangements if applicable
Proof of Residency of the student - two documents, one from each of the categories below showing the home address;
Category A - notice of tax assessment, current rental/lease agreement, agreement to purchase including proof of purchase
provided before the pupil attends the school, or property tax bill, and
Category B - utility bill, bank statement or other official document.
YRDSB’s FI Accommodation Plan provides long-term consistency and equity of access to all students in York Region and will enable YRDSB to continue to offer the FI program to all who wish to enrol. The FI program will be offered in Dual Track or Single Track settings, in a variety of con-figurations. In order to meet community needs and optimize available space in our schools, a community's Grade 1-8 FI program may be provided over more than one school during the course of a student's FI education. This will allow flexibility in addressing community needs and the opportu-nity to use existing space in schools. Please note: Some of the FI accommodation plans will require facility modifications or the development of new schools and will require short-term transition plans that might include overflow while we work toward the long-term vision. Overflow refers to situations in which the Board directs students to attend a school other than their community school or optional program for a specific period of time, as defined in Policy #108.
Field Trip Permission Forms
Are Going Paperless!
Starting January 2018, parental permission for children to
attend Woodbridge Public School field trips will be granted
online.
Through School Cash Online, parents will be able to access
the online permission form and grant permission. There is an
option to print out a copy of the permission form, for your
records.
Going forward, School Cash Online email notifications will be
the primary method of communicating upcoming field trips.
Field trip permission forms will no longer be sent home
with your child/ren. Please keep an eye out for upcoming
field trips through your School Cash Online email notifica-
tions / School Cash Online account.

Student Attendance
Regular and punctual attendance affects school success
and is expected of all students. It is important that par-
ents/guardians and school staff work together to ensure
regular attendance.
As stated in the YRDSB Guide to the School Year 2017-
2018, “Parents/guardians are expected to notify the
school as soon as possible if your child will be absent
or late”. At Woodbridge Public School, parents are required
to call into the SchoolConnects automated notification sys-
tem, by dialing the toll free number 1-855-203-2994 or go
online at yorkrdsb.schoolconnects.com to report your
child’s absence.
Please be advised that all students need to be on time
for the start of the each school day and after lunch. We
do our best work as a school when students are present,
and late arrivals not only miss out on
classroom instruction, they interrupt
lessons underway.

Extreme Weather Conditions – Winter
During the cold winter months it is important that students come to school dressed for the weather conditions. This includes: boots, hats, scarves, snow pants, warm coats and mittens or gloves. We also encourage packing an extra pair
of socks and pants in case they get wet.
All students are expected to go out for every recess and lunch hour, weather permitting. We monitor the weather throughout the day, including temperature, wind chill, sun/cloud conditions and wind velocity. In extreme weather conditions, such as ice pellets or extremely high wind chill factors, the principal may decide to shorten recess breaks
or keep students indoors.
Students with illnesses serious enough to prevent them
from participating in recess or other outdoor activities
should stay at home until their condition improves. This will
also prevent the spread of illness to others.
