Tipingwuti paints Parlini Jilamara, a design that represents the old language and the old ways of the Tiwi people. She is inspired by traditional Tiwi body art patterns and the graphic qualities found in the natural world, such as shells and plants. Tipingwuti embarks on a macro study of these designs, focusing on the particular rhythm of the pattern and expanding it a over large surface using the traditional painting implements of the comb (dots) and hair brush (line) in locally sourced earth pigment. Ita Tipingwuti will exhibit at Vivien Anderson Gallery in July 2009.

1. Ita Tipingwuti Parlini Jilamara 2008 earth pigment on canvas 160.0 x 200.0 cm Provenance: TIWI Arts, NT Ita Tipingwuti is an emerging Tiwi solo artist from Bathurst Island, N.T. Moira Macumboy Untitled 2008 synthetic polymer paint on canvas 87.0 x 88.0 cm Provenance: Lockhart River Aboriginal Community Arts & Cultural Centre, QLD Self described “Old Gal” of the Lockhart River Art Centre, Macumboy’s repertoire is an elemental response to her environment, the tropical far north of Cape York Peninsula, full moon fishing trips, camping on the beach at sunset.

Rosella Namok Coming back from old site 2000 synthetic polymer paint on canvas 198.0 x 346.0 cm Provenance: Lockhart River Art Centre, QLD Private collection, NSW Coming back from old site is considered to be one of the earliest and finest major paintings by this accomplished artist, according to Geoff Barker, the inaugural art coordinator at Lockhart River Arts and Culture.

Djirrirra Wunungmurra Dhalwangu Gapu - 5 Memorial Poles 2007 earth pigment on stringy bark log 265.0 – 275.0 CM (height) Provenance: Buku Larrngay Mulka Centre, Yirrkala, NY Exhibited: 2008 TOGART Contemporary Art Award (NT) winner Djirrirra is the daughter of the late great Yolngu master artist Yanggariny, from whom she learned the technique to paint her original interpretation of the sacred water around her homeland at Gangan. Djiirjirra Wununmurra will exhibit at Vivien Anderson Gallery in September 2009.

Dhuwarrwarr Marika Milngurr 2008 earth pigment on bark 172.0 x 91.0 cm Provenance: Buku Larrngay Mulka Centre, Yirrkala, NY Dhuwarrwarr Marika of the influential Marika Clan, paintings the Sacred Spring at Milngurr, associated with the creation story of the Djan’kawu Sisters. In 2008 Dhuwarwarr presented her first solo exhibition at Vivien Anderson Gallery. A sell out resulted in her representation in National Gallery of Australia and Nahum Collection, London.

In addition, the national Museum of Scotland recently acquired 11 Raiki Wara batik silk long cloths by the internationally renowned women artists of Ernabella Arts Centre.
