Best State Parks near Fuquay-Varina are: Raven Rock State Park, William B. Umstead State Park, Carvers Creek State Park, and Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve. International Outreach – Chair: Patty Byrne & Sandy Allen

The speaker for our November meeting hosted by the International Outreach Committee is Linda Frenette, Director of the F-V Chamber of Commerce. She will talk about her recent trip to Greece where she taught English to Greek students.

Please remember to bring your filled “Trick or Treat” boxes to our November meeting for our annual UNICEF project. If you prefer, you may make a small donation with cash or write a check to US Fund for UNICEF –Trick or Treat. Your donations go a long way to help children in over 190 countries and territories. $1 can provide protein biscuits for a hungry child, $5 can provide 13 doses of a measles vaccine, $15 can provide a child with clean, safe water for one year, and the list goes on and on in the numerous ways UNICEF continues to help needy children.

Please continue to get your immunizations at Walgreens this fall. They have contributed millions to the UN Foundation program called “Shot@Life”. When you get a shot, they will give a shot to help protect children in developing countries from vaccine-preventable diseases. GFWC is a proud partner with this program and encourages your participation. As of last month, 113 shots were counted at the meeting.
