Epic Eats#checkin

veryone can appreciate a good box lunch, but Epic Eats is not your average cook shop. While they o!er many of the regular ‘cook food’ options, they also have an ever-

changing menu with items such as Big Bang Chicken, Chicken or Shrimp Alfredo and the newly added Quesadilla.

These ‘exotic’ additions could be due to the fact that Epic was a by-product of the owners’ original business venture, Fuzion Foods. “The Jamaican palate is a little more sophisticated nowa-days and people long for familiar flavours of foods from their travels and experiences. So we wanted to o!er them that op-tion for lunch,” said co-owner Kevin Mullings.

Not only are the menu options more extensive than your run-of-the-mill cook shop, but you can also join their e-mail list and have the specials sent to you daily. Another perk is that on Sat-urdays, they o!er all-day breakfast specials such as pancakes, eggs and bacon or an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich.

What is your typical weekend? After I have finished teaching on a Friday, my weekend starts by linking up at Medusa on 96 Hope Road for a drink with friends. It can either be a simple night where I take it easy or we pass by the club on occasions. Saturdays I wake up to catch the football matches before going to my tutoring centre by 9:45am (as teaching starts at 10am).

I am usually done teaching by 4pm and afterwards (once my knee allows), I like to play football but in recent times with each passing day, my knees aren’t as receptive, so I may go to Spanish Town, get my car washed, eat some food and play some dominoes. Saturday night is typically an easy night, link up at a bar and chill for a bit. Sundays I’m up by nine to open my tutoring centre and I am usu-ally there until 7:30pm. After that, I go home , catch the Premier League weekend review and watch Manchester United beat Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or whomever they have played in their pursuit to another title. Relax for a bit, then back to work again.

Who are your weekends spent with?My weekends are typically spent with my students.

What would be your ideal weekend? My ideal weekend would be to win the Lot-to, Super Lotto or Powerball. After winning the lotto, I would call my financial advisers to work everything out, then plan for a va-cay to Fiji or Bora Bora and relax on those houses over the water whilst sipping on a glass of scotch. Then I would start planning my dream house.

What spot/activity/event would you recommend for any given weekend?I would recommend Medusa Road as a weekend spot.

any of us passing through Barbican in the early week-

end hours are used to making a life-saving stop at Burger King to soak up the night be-fore. But since late last year, another 24-hour alter-native has become available across the road.

Sure, there are beef and chicken burgers and cheesesteaks at Pita Grill, but it’s the falafel wrap that provides a healthier, tastier but still substantial alternative. You can choose from a variety of wraps, but for health, I recommend you go with the whole wheat.

For those who haven’t tried it, falafel is a patty made of chickpeas and then deep-fried, so it doesn’t totally compromise flavour for health! You can choose from a range of other fillings including hu-mus and delicious tabouleh salad. Some more good news is that you needn’t be totally healthy – the thicker-cut fries alone are worth a stop at Pita Grill; and not forgetting free juice and soda refills!
