Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church Organ Refurbishment Update

In March we brought you the story of the Dalziel

St Andrew’s Parish Church having received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to restore their historic and nationally important Walcker Pipe Organ.

To further supplement the Pipe Organs restoration fund, the congregation have organised a fund raising evening through a performance by St John’s Singer’s on Saturday 7th May who will be performing a wide repertoire of sacred and secular songs and have raised money for many charities since they started three years ago.The Organ was installed in the Grade ‘B’ listed church building in 1900 and remains in the original condition having been well maintained over its long life. However, the passage of time has taken its toll and a complete restoration is required. Thankfully the Heritage Lottery Fund have provided a grant of £50,000 that will help bring the organ back into use and be a delight to the ears

of those attending Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church. With a target of over £100,000 to complete the works, the office-bearers and congregation have faced a difficult challenge in raising these funds and hope that the performance by St John’s Singers will help bring some much needed publicity to their cause. The group have already seen support come in from all over Britain after the

importance of the instrument was emphasised when the London based British Institute of Organ Studies awarded it their Certificate Grade 1. In addition, successors of Lady Hamilton and her family who originally helped install the organ back in 1900, Rt. Hon. Lord Hamilton of Dalzell and Rt. Hon. Lord Hamilton of Epsom have both forwarded on generous cheques in support of the appeal.

Expressions of support have also been received from local MP’s and MSP’s, Hamilton Presbytery and General Trustees of the Church of Scotland as well as the Motherwell Heritage Society. The event will be held on Saturday 7th May at 7.30pm in Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church and tickets, priced £5, are available either at the door or in advance by calling Jeanette Boyd on 01698 351604.

Hello and thanks for picking up a copy of the

17th Edition of the Wishaw HUB, Lanarkshire's only FREE positive-news publication.

"Busy, busy, busy....there's no other word for it!" With the new Perth HUB imminently launching and Pakistan's Sargodha HUB having published its first edition on Mon 25th Apr, it has all been 'full-on" at the HUB HQ!

Wishaw's Battle of the Bands ended with a climax last week and the winning band has won a truly spectacular prize at the envy of the runners up. Also, the community of Shotts has been outdoors recently raising much-needed funds for a young lad named Caleb Duffy who had to be flown to America for life-saving surgery. Shotts has continued to play its part this Spring with both Shotts Leisure Centre & Wishaw Sports Centre all offering free sports activities to raise money for

Help the Heroes charity.

Motherwell College students have been busy making great music and drama, and the New Music Award nominations have been made with Motherwell College and Foundry Music Lab being nominated for more than one award. Alona Hotel at Strathclyde Park have gone 'Blitz', and a local band Audio King have launched their new EP in front of adoring fans.

On the Sports front, the Wishaw High FP have successfully qualified for the Scottish Amateur Cup, and Motherwell FC have qualified for the Scottish Cup after nearly 20 years! This and plenty more can be found in this edition of the Wishaw HUB.

Once again, the Wishaw Hub is recruiting for salespeople and journalists. If you feel you have what it takes to work in a busy vibrant newspaper company, then drop me an email with your

cv. Our newly appointed Assistant to the Editor, Gary McCord and Regional Sales Director, Kal Sabri, have both been performing superbly.

Finally, from myself and the rest of the team, make the most of the sunshine, enjoy the Royal Wedding, and make sure you wear plenty of sunblock, unlike some of our staff who have turned red overnight!

Regards

Saj Sabri

Not only can Wishaw High FP’s football team be proud of their progression

into the finals of The Scottish Amateur Cup on Friday 15th April, but they also found time on the night to donate a cheque for £350 to Ryan Dunbar, who was a guest of the club on behalf of The Scottish Spina Bifida Association.

Gavin Torrance, who is pictured handing over the cheque, told The Wishaw HUB “It’s part of our club philosophy to make a donation to a local charity if possible from the proceeds of our Annual Sportsman’s Dinner which is held every year around the end of March. Some of our chosen charities in the past have included The Maggies centre, The Strathclyde Cancer Care Unit,

The Sick Children’s Ward at Wishaw General Hospital and this year, The Scottish Spina Bifida Association through local lad Ryan Dunbar. By doing this, it is a way of giving something back into the local community and no doubt this money will be put to good use.

Our view on it is that local businesses who are in a position to help the team out by means of sponsorship etc, are paramount for a club such as ourselves to keep going. It is important that we give some of those businesses our custom back in return and I know that these businesses are also keen for us to donate a percentage of our money from these Sportsman’s Dinners to the charities.

Ryan, his brother Taylor and his Mum and Dad, Tracey and Peter were invited along to the semi-finals of The Scottish Amateur Cup at New Douglas Park in Hamilton on Friday 15th May 2011, where Wishaw FP presented Ryan with the cheque at half time.

Gavin Torrance added “We hope Ryan and his family will be able to come along to the final as well, which is scheduled to take place at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium in Livingston (formerly Almondvale Stadium) home of Livingston FC on the 28th May 2011.”

EASTER EGGTREASURE HUNTThis Easter weekend saw staff

at Specsavers on Wishaw Main Street running an Easter Egg Hunt for local children aged 13 and under.

At 9am on Saturday 22nd April, staff from the store hid furry green mascots along the main street and the treasure hunters who discovered them were able to exchange the mascots for Easter eggs at the store.

Not only were Easter eggs on offer, but one lucky hunter who found the sunglasses-wearing mascot

received an extra special prize. Jonathan Dry, director of the Wishaw Specsavers store, said: “Staff were out on the street secretly placing lots of little furry green mascots.

“We had a huge tower of chocolate eggs in-store and any youngster lucky enough to find a mascot was able to trade it in for an egg.

“The children loved taking part in an old-fashioned Easter egg hunt last year and staff had a great day handing out the eggs this year.”

PUTTIN’ ON THE BLITZThe Alona Hotel, Strathclyde

Park saw the return of 1940’s chic on Friday 22nd April as The Kennedy Cupcakes teamed up with That Swing Sensation to put on an evening of wartime entertainment for 250 guests, some of whom were dressed in 1940’s ensemble.

For the music and dance partnership this was the third time they have entertained attendees since starting in April 2010

and each year they support a different charitable cause such as Help for Heroes. This year, The Mark Wright Project benefits from over £1,300 raised through ticket sales, sponsored tables, raffles and stands booked on ‘Blitz Street’, where local businesses were able to sell their wares.

The Mark Wright Project actively supports ex-Service men and women, and their families in addressing the

by Gary McCord

invisible wounds of war, and easing ex-Service men and women’s transition into civilian life.

The wartime era was cleverly recreated with most guests getting into the spirit of things and dressing in their 40’s finest. The venue also benefited from the Western Desert Recce Group boys at the entrance with their fabulous 40s army jeep, Bouncing Betty, for guests to pose for photos beside on arrival. The beautiful banqueting room at The Alona was decked out in bunting, WW2 propaganda posters, sand bags & flags giving it that authentic feel.

Speaking to The Wishaw HUB, Lisa Kennedy of The Kennedy Cupcakes said “We transported the audience back

to those dancing days, with fabulous routines & hits of the era all night long. The dance floor remained packed the entire night with everyone getting up to have a boogie. The atmosphere was fantastic & everyone really seemed to enjoy their evening.

“We raised just over £1300 for The Mark Wright Project and we cannot thank everyone who supported the evening enough! We are delighted to be able to hand over our collection to the charity & know we’ve helped to make a difference to ex servicemen & women’s’ lives.”

MICHELLE MONE MEETS MOTHERWELL COLLEGE MUSICIANS!HND Music students at Motherwell College were treated to a very special guest lecture by one of the UK’s top entrepreneurs Michelle Mone, recently. As part of the music course, the students not only record and perform within bands as part of assessment but they have to study the business side of the music industry. As well as giving some pointers in marketing a brand, networking and seeking funding for arts projects, Michelle gave the students business advice on their individual music projects they are currently being assessed on. And she spoke in detail about how

to market a product online through social media, how to network at corporate events and manage a budget whilst dealing with overheads.Course lecturer Scott Cowie said: “We are absolutely delighted that entrepreneurs such as Michelle Mone take the time out of their busy schedules to talk to our music students. We can give our students their music education but there is nothing to beat hearing directly on how to succeed, from the big names in business and the music industries.”Michelle Mone has

become one of the many well known celebrities to deliver a guest lecture to the music course students recently. Others include T in the Park promoters Dave McGheachan and Dave Corbitt, top music journalist

Billy Sloan and Wet Wet Wet’s Graeme Clarke. The College music courses have a strong partnership with the Foundry Music Lab in which most of the practical and recording sides of the course are

delivered. The Motherwell-based professional recording and rehearsal facility was founded by Graeme Duffin, Ted Blakeway and Sandy Jones. The College has worked with the Foundry Music Lab

since 2006.

Rotary News By Willie Talbot

There was a good turnout of members at last

Thursday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw, where the speaker was the SFA’s Referees’ Chief Don McVicar. He gave a very interesting talk on the current state of play with today’s football referees and thought that potential officials are being put off the game by the flak that comes with the job and he feared that a generation of top-quality referees could be lost

if criticism from managers and the media continues. Such was the interest of members that President John McGeary had to call a halt when the questions to Don went into double figures.

International convener John McDonald reported that a sum of £352 was raised at the recent book stall. The winner of the weekly bonus ball’s were Senior Vice President Bill McCallum and Hughes Lumsden

DALZIEL CENTRE CELEBRATES EASTERWomen at the Dalziel

Centre donned their Easter Bonnets to mark the seasonal celebrations on Wednesday 20 April.

In addition to decorating their own hats, the patients of the day hospice - for people in Lanarkshire affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses - enjoyed an afternoon of fun and laughs. Sandra Tollan, from Wishaw, has been attending the centre, based at Strathclyde Hospital in Motherwell, since 2006 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She said: “We’re always doing something for a laugh

and to keep our spirits up so this was a great idea to celebrate Easter. “The Dalziel Centre is a brilliant place – you can come in and have a cry and a laugh with people who are also dealing with a serious illness. “For me it’s been a real lifesaver as I was feeling very depressed when I was first diagnosed. “You get support from other patients and the staff, who can also provide you with different medication, therapies and treatments.” Carol Murphy, the nursing sister at the hospice, said: “I’d like to thank Asda in Motherwell who donated

Easter Eggs and the Craigneuk Parish Church who provided cream eggs for our patients to help us celebrate Easter.” The Dalziel Centre is looking for volunteers to help

them raise money at a Bag Pack at Asda in Motherwell on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May, from 10am to 4pm. Staff nurse Janice Slater, who is organising the back

pack, said: “We are looking for anyone who is aware of the work of the Dalziel Centre and wants to help us raise money to give up a couple of hours of their time.”

'Hooked on a Bed of Roses' by Kal Sabri

You may have drove past this shop many a time, but today

I noticed alot of people entering which tweaked my interest, so I parked my car and entered this small shop.

It looked plain enough, no fancy lights or neon signs, and as I strolled in, I noticed there was a queue. Some were purchasing bedding plants, whilst others were picking out anniversary cards. I overheard the owner advising a customer on the best way to cast his fishing rod, and he was demonstrating using certain wrist movements.

Being a budding fisherman myself, I immediately appreciated that his level of experience was immense yet he was soft spoken, and he had me totally mesmerised. He was a friendly, helpful, elderly gentlemen, and I was in awe at the way he handled his customers,...he simply treated everyone like an old friend!

I introduced myself whilst strangely apologising, not knowing why; this gentlemen had me in a spell, and his name was Jim Ritchie. I asked him how old he was, and whilst winking he replied, "I'm definitely well over sixty five!"and we both smiled. I commented on his excellent knowledge and his very easy nature.

"My son..." began Ritchie, "...I have been living my dream! I LIVE only to go fishing! I sell fishing tackle and create my own style of flies so that I have the money to enjoy what I love most, Fishing!"

Ritchie set-up shop nearly eighteen years ago in Lanark, and later relocated to his present abode in Wishaw. Having been established in Wishaw for six years now, Ritchie has a very faithful army of regular customers, and upon asking him about his vast collection of fish flies, he commented, "I first photograph insects at the sides of lochs and rivers, then I mimic these into my designs. Whether they're common flies, scottish river flies, rainbow lures or salmon flies, all are important for the type of fish you want to catch." He then turned, looked at his watch, and uttered, "Now is the time I start to tie flies for my evening fishing!"

Honestly speaking, I could not believe this 'wee gem' of a guy, who lives here in our very own Wishaw, and has soo much talent and experience.

"A wee tip son..." said Ritchie, "when da hawthorn blossom starts, that's when ye start fishing the gloamin' flies (or sledge flies)." Words from the Master Angler himself!

So there you go folks, from bedding plants to all types of fishing tackle and FREE specialist fishing advice, why not pop down to your local Master Angler and Wishaw's own fishing Guru - Jim Ritchie.

SCOTTISH NEW MUSIC AWARDSLast week the nominations for

the Scottish New Music Awards were confirmed. Lanarkshire based recording/rehearsal facility The Foundry Music Lab has been nominated for an impressive three separate awards; Best Recording Studio, Best Rehearsal Facility and Best Studio Engineer in Sandy Jones. Since opening in 2006, The Foundry has gained a name for itself as the best studio around, and it’s no surprise that so many industry specialists have cast their vote in three different categories. Director of the Foundry Ted Blakeway stated: “it’s definitely something that was needed locally. There were so many good bands and artists in the area crying out for a good studio so it was a no brainer for myself, Graeme and Sandy to put our industry experience to good use.” The Foundry is also well known for its partnership with Motherwell College, in which they deliver the practical and recording sides of the College’s highly successful music courses. This year has seen the likes of Dave McGeachan from DF Concerts (T in the Park) and top DJ and journalist Billy Sloan give guest lecturers, and being favourably impressed by the quality of the students. So much so in fact, that Billy has been giving airtime on his show to music produced by some of the students Along with FML, Motherwell College has been nominated in two categories at the SNMA awards: Best Music

Course in Scotland, and Best Tutor, in the shape of course leader and lecturer Scott Cowie. The Foundry Music Lab has, and continues to, play an integral role in developing the NQ Rock and Pop and HNC/D Music from 2006. “The FML/College collaboration has grown stronger year on year culminating in the opening of the new multi-million pound Campus located 5 minutes walk from the studio. The students now have even easier access to the professional, practical learning environment at FML, with the Music Theory and business elements delivered at the main building” When asked why Motherwell College and FML seem to be offering “The Music Course everyone’s talking about,” Ted commented that when the students asked for additional marketing tutorials we were able to immediately call on the services of Business Woman of the Year, Michelle Mone, an expert in on-line marketing, promotion and sales. This flexibility to respond to the requirements and requests of the students through our network of professional industry contacts gives the courses great appeal. The Award Ceremony takes place on September the 4th at the Barrowlands Ballroom. You can vote for the Foundry and the Motherwell College Music Courses on this link from the 2nd May onwards http://www.scotmusicawards.co.uk/industryawards.html

‘Ask Alex’ draws crowds for Alex Neil’s campaign

First Minister Alex Salmond returned to support Alex Neil’s

election campaign for a second time this week by holding a special Q&A session.

It was standing room only as one hundred and fifty people were in attendance at a special Q&A session with First Minister Alex Salmond and SNP candidate Alex Neil at Excelsior Stadium last week.

Elaine C Smith, the star of TV series Rab C Nesbitt, chaired the session which saw questions posed on local and national issues from an audience of SNP supporters and undecided voters

from across the Airdrie & Shotts area. The most common question for

both Alex Salmond and Alex Neil was on the future of Monklands A&E, with both stressing their commitment to retaining the facility and investing in its future. Question topics ranged from energy policy, the pros and cons of coalition government, the state of the town centres in Shotts and Airdrie, Westminster cuts and local services.

Despite being scheduled to last 90mins the First Minister did not leave until 10.30pm.

First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond said: “It was an absolute

pleasure to be back in Airdrie & Shotts to support our SNP candidate Alex Neil.

“It was a great night and there is clearly a lot of personal support there for Alex Neil as well as for the SNP. In fact the loudest cheer of the night came when I referred to him as the Housing Minister who started Scottish Council House building again.

“Airdrie & Shotts is going to be one of the most important seats in the election campaign, and I know that with the campaign Alex Neil and his team are running it is winnable for the SNP.”

SNP candidate for Airdrie & Shotts, Alex Neil said: “This meeting

highlighted the positive vision Alex Salmond has for Scotland and his commitment in particular to retaining Monklands As future. That will only happen with the re-election of an SNP Government at this election.

“The SNP’s commitment to helping ordinary hardworking families has brought the endorsement of Alex Salmond for First Minister from Tommy Brennan, one of Lanarkshire’s outstanding union leaders, who fought so hard to keep Ravenscraig open. Never again can we allow a Tory Government in London to destroy jobs and industry in Scotland.”

Asia Tandoori, Carluke

The Asia Tandoori opened its doors for business in Newmains during the Summer of 1988. I remember I was a teenager and so were the owners, Nad and Naeem. Hence, it was wonderful to bump into Nad, the elder brother. I asked, “ Have you ate all the pies Nad?”. He replied, “No Kal, I’ve ate all the kebabs...what can I say, they’re very tasty!” We both laughed.

Over the years the Asia Tandoori in Newmains has had three refurbishments, some new faces, but the very high standard in food quality and service have remained as the benchmark for others to follow. The menu has been recently revised with new recipes for the highly successful Tikka Masala’s, Chasni’s, Jaipuri’s, and Karahi dishes. Using a special secret blend of herbs, fresh spices and exotic

I asked Nad about the secret to his success in the Asian hot-food business. His reply was blunt, “At the Asia Tandoori, we emphasise on quality. I buy only the best produce in chicken, lamb, and vegetables,

an individual taste every time. Our costs are considerably more, however, our dishes are considerably exceptional also.”

“We expanded into Carluke due to the high demand of our customers, and have been successfully operating from both branches for some time now. Our portions are extremely generous and will please

support offered by our loyal customers, and I hope that the quality of our food speaks for itself!”

Well folks...the Asia Tandoori must be doing something right, and Nad’s words are indicative of the passion he has put into making Asia Tandoori a household name in Lanarkshire. Whether it’s a curry you want tonight or a kebab, call Nad at ‘The Asia’, and take him up on his generous offer...you wont be disappointed!

Diagnosed with a brain tumour, Caleb Duffy, aged 7, will require a three month long stay in America whilst he receives extensive medical

treatment. Although this is being paid for by the NHS, with treatment lasting for three months, money raised at the event will enable Caleb’s family to be by his side during this very difficult time.

With money still coming in, Lennons Showbar’s charity fundraiser has already helped raise over £3,200 and whilst entry was free, donations were collected at the door, throughout the night and at special events including a slave auction. All slaves had pledged to give their time and experience to

the highest bidder and Lennons Showbar promised “slaves of the highest quality and come with a guaranteed sense of humour”. Slave’s were then able to offer their services as Cleaner, Cook, DIY, Car Mechanics, PC Technicians, DJ’s or offering to draw your portrait and available for general chit chat.

Fish, Pastas, Pizzas, KebabsIt was a friend who introduced

me to Nonna Lina's, and being a ‘fish n chip’ addict, I have tried almost every shop there is...but what set Nonna Lina’s apart for me was the succulent fish, angel cut haddock and no bones about it! That's right, 'no bones', just chunks of meaty white haddock.I asked the owner Tomazza, "What was his secret?" He said "It's in the batter!

I use a traditional recipe my grandmother taught my mother. It is a combination of secret spices, a touch of special batter, it has to be thick, but crispy enough to melt in your mouth. I use this recipe across all my products."

He continued "My grandmother's recipes are also used in our very popular pasta dishes, we make home-made pasta that one would pay twice

as much for elsewhere. We follow all recipes exactly the same as my grandmother showed me, all real ingredients, sauces & cheeses. Try it, you won't be disappointed!"

Well, I have tried their dishes, and I was taken aback by the flavour. Truly... Nonna Lina’s have a taste to die for!

Motherwell South dusts off the tea cups for Royal Wedding Garden Party

The bunting is ready to be hung and guests have already looked out

their finest hats and bow ties for a special garden party at Motherwell South Parish Church to celebrate the Royal Wedding on Friday 29 April 2011.

Around 150 friends and family of the congregation at Motherwell South Parish Church will celebrate the Royal Wedding at a special showing of the event on a giant screen at the 'wee pink church', which will be decorated with white pew ends and white floral window arrangements. All the ladies will be presented

with wedding favours and the gentlemen will receive a thistle button hole. Kids coming down to join in the celebrations will also receive a surprise gift bag.

Following the screening of the wedding ceremony, afternoon tea will be served in the church hall which has been kitted out regal attire. Organza drapes in the windows, St. Andrews flags and heather arrangments on window ledges, sparkling white linen table covers, cake stands with dainty home made cakes, a selection of garden party sandwiches and to add colour, there will be red, white and blue

napkins.Weather permitting, a

marquee, complete with garden furniture, will be erected in the church grounds whilst bunting will adorn the silver birch trees.

Reverend Georgie Baxendale, said, "It's wedding fever at Motherwell South and the congregation as well as friends and family are getting very excited about our exclusive garden party to celebrate the Royal wedding. Our church will be transformed to celebrate this unique event and everyone is getting really enthused to make it an event to remember."

RAVENSCRAIG RE-DEVELOPMENTThe Scottish Government

has provisionally backed North Lanarkshire

Councils development at the former Ravenscraig site.

The backing for the ambitious plans was needed by the council for the former Ravenscraig development which result in 5000 job opportunities in the first six years; 500 temporary jobs for construction workers.

The development began in 2001 where the original plans were drawn up as its one of the biggest derelict sites in Scotland. To date, there has already been development in the area which consists of residential houses, the new Motherwell College and the state of the art Ravenscraig Regional Sports facility.

The development plan has been set over a 30 year period which will allow the eventual result to be more homes, a town centre, industrial units, leisure facilities and schools.

The Scottish government gave permission for the work to go ahead as long as any business rates that are raised are used to pay off the loan for the building.

Maureen McConachie,

North Lanarkshire’s head of regeneration services said, “We are studying the terms of the provisional approval of the business plan and will have further discussions with both the Scottish Futures Trust and site developers Ravenscraig Ltd on how best to progess.”

In order to make the site accessible, Scotland’s two major motorways will be linked to the new town centre.

There will be £425 million worth of private investment from developers and the site will bring in revenue of £1.2 billion and once the development is complete, the overall job availability will be in the region of 12,600.

Since Ravenscraig steelworks closed in 1992, the council have been thinking of new ways to bring in more money for Scotland and in particular, how to put that area to good use.

Councillor Jim McCabe said, “The closure was a hammer blow for North Lanarkshire and Scotland, but this allows us to secure a real and prosperous future for the site and for the area as a whole.”

A Day in the SunIt was a hot sunny day, my family and I thought it would be a great day to go to the beach. We packed up lots of food and drinks in a big picnic basket. I sat in the car with my mum, dad and my brother Collin; we were looking forward to a great day. When we reached the beach I ran out of the car and jumped onto the sand. Everyone followed closely behind. My mum set out the picnic as Collin, my dad and I got changed into our swimsuits and ran into the water. We played and splashed each other the water was ok but was still quite cold. I could smell the salty sea water and the tiny grains of sand run through my toes. I ran over to where my mum was setting put the picnic; I lay on the hot

sand it felt amazing, I could feel the sand rubbing off my back. Then all of a sudden I heard my dad call out “come and eat.” I got up and ran over to sit next to Collin. We had sandwiches, strawberries, jelly and crisps; I drank a full cup of orange juice. Later we played some football, and had some ice cream. Collin and I made a huge sand castle then ran into it after we were finished, we wrote our names in the sand then watched them wash away. Collin bought some lots of stuff from the gift shop; I bought a snow-globe with a tiny beach ball inside it. Everyone had a great time. Mum, dad and Collin all went up to the car as I washed the sand off my feet. We had a great day in the sun.By Anna Lee

Hello and welcome back to the children’s hub, I have many exciting things to show

everyone such as story by Anna Lee (age 10) she has wrote about her trip to the beach, she has put a lot of effort into it and I think she has done a great job. I also have a poem by Jenny Shaw (age 9) it is very good. This week I am proud to say that we are receiving many good poems, stories and drawings. If you would like to send in anything, email it to:[email protected] or post it to:the Wishaw Hub, 209 Main Street, Wishaw ML2 7NE

Kermit MacDermit Kermit MacDermit, a crabby old hermit, has never been out of his shell. He doesn’t like flowersand never takes showers. You’d know by his horrible smell. His friends never call him, for he doesn’t want them.He just wants to stay in his home.So don’t be a hermitlike Kermit MacDermitor you’ll end up old and alone.By Jenny Shaw

THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEXDid you miss the last episode of the best written and acted show ITV have ever produced? Do you watch it and think “ITV haven’t produced anything

this good since Brideshead Revisited”? Well fear not, because below is a summary of what you missed:- “Shut up”- “Shut up”- “Shuut-up”- “SHUT UP!”There you go. No need to thank me.Ok, I didn’t watch it, but I’m willing to bet my mortgage on it being an accurate assessment of what was said. Just because they’re from Essex, doesn’t mean they should be allowed to get their own TV show and annoy people.

FOOTBALLER LOVE RAT EXCLUSIVEDid you hear about the footballer who was having an affair with a former Big Brother

contestant, but whose name was not revealed due to a high court injunction? Do you feel

that it is important, and in the pubic interest that his identity be revealed? Do you feel that you have a right to know who he is? And did you read the headline above and think “Oh good, now his identity will be revealed?”Then you’re a very, very sad individual.

EL HADJI DIOUF STRIKES AGAINEl Hadji Diouf has come out in support of, wait for it…Colonel Gaddafi. Those who represent him want to distance themselves from his comments. Indeed, one of them said “The man is an out-of-control, violent, and dangerous nutter. We do not condone such comments and wish he’d concentrate on playing for Rangers instead”.

See what I did there? I let you think I was talking about Diouf’s representatives. How funny am I? Of course, I may not be laughing if Diouf reads this and decides to come after me.

MOBILE PHONESFor legal reasons I can’t name the company involved, but I am pleased to say that I cancelled my contract with them last week.It was quite a rigmarole I can tell you. Twice they hung up the phone on me when I asked for the PAC code to transfer my number, then they offered me a new phone plus £120. Then the supervisor came on the phone and invited me to his wedding in Mumbai.I’m always in favour of making a customer feel valued, but inviting me to his wedding was just a wee bit too much.

AND FINALLYFancy a good night out? Then don’t go and see “Scream 4”.The plot is so bad, it makes even the most pointless and rubbish film look like Citizen Kane. And the villain in the movie is still the clumsiest in movie history (i.e- he runs into doors, falls down stairs, yet doesn’t seem to get injured).

That’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Although full marks to the punter who ran through the cinema wearing a Ghost Face mask just to liven up the proceedings. Well done to you sir…and sorry for panicking and hitting you over the head.

Your Stars...Aries Mar 20 - Apr 20

With Mercury going back and forth through Aries, your Sun sign, you may have felt the need to return to the drawing board on more than one occasion after you’d thought you’d had things done and dusted. Thankfully this week should start to see a significant end to recent anxiety on the financial front. A significant change of attitude or perspective is indicated, especially if you’ve got the wrong end of the stick where an important piece of information or communication matter is concerned.

Taurus 20 Apr - 20 MayYou want to have fun but may feel a little too tongue-tied and twisted when sober and apt to get a little too carried away when the worse for wear. Meantime, whether you’ve been tempted to do a bit of shoplifting or be economical with the truth where matters of money, possessions and personal resources are concerned, it may be time to take a step back and however magnanimous your motives, ease up before you go too far. For the next few weeks you should shift your focus towards promoting yourself and your talents, time to put your needs first for awhile.

Gemini 21 May - 21 JunWe are here and it is now. Further than that, all human knowledge is moonshine. With Mercury, your planetary ruler, having been retrograde in recent weeks you’ve had to put up with your fair share of moonshine. Change is in the air but trying to see clearly or get useful advice from someone isn’t easy. Nevertheless, if you’ve kept your head when all about you were loosing theirs’, then it looks like you’ll soon get your reward even if it means having to go back to basics.

Cancer 22 Jun - 22 JulA sheltered life can be a daring life, since all serious daring starts within. So even if you’re left feeling a little raw and edgy by the vast array of possibilities before you, then it should be reassuring to know that they should soon start to look less daunting and perplexing. Seek out the help and support of friends right now as you’re also likely to find a friend may be able to help you get a handle on an important personal and private matter you’ve been keeping to yourself lately.

Leo 23 Jul - 22 AugYou should make the most of opportunities that come your way that give you the chance to shine and show the world what you can do. In fact, a financial proposition or opportunity that you've had to fight for and maybe even thought was dead and buried could re-emerge, forcing you to dig your heels in and go for it. It looks like you'll be one step closer to clarifying a friendship or love dilemma that has been the cause of some confusion and uncertainty. Take things one step at a time, because the wheel is still spinning on this one and it probably wont be till early May before you really know where you stand.

Virgo 23 Aug - 22 SepWhen you can do nothing what can you do? Well, you can always wait, patiently. We would expect to see personal, vocational and career matters that have been plagued by communication problems with those on whom you depend, finally start to unravel and resemble some sort of sanity. However, that’s not the full picture and you need to hold fire, for just a little while longer since it looks like there’s a storm brewing and you need to stand back or you’ll be sucked in or forced to mediate.

Libra 23 Sep - 23 OctYou may feel the need to walk around on tip-toe while others seem spoiling for any excuse to let off steam. This week should see the beginning of a resolution to an important issue concerning your travel, education or metaphysical aspirations. It may turn out that whoever it is that calls the shots will have a change of heart, either way, an opportunity to resolve an important financial matter on the work front should also present itself, suggesting you may have been right all along.

Scorpio 24 Oct - 21 NovWith a planetary pile-up in Aries as Mercury changes direction, new information that comes to light could bring an important financial matter to a head. Someone may even go out of their way to win you round but if they’ve let you down they’d better have a good reason or you may feel it necessary to keep them are arms length from now on. Nevertheless, the entrance of the Sun into your op-posite sign of Taurus suggest it’s a good time to socialise, so put on your glad rags and mingle.

Sagittarius 22 Nov - 21 DecIf your love life or the creative expression of your artistic talents has been a source of confusion, misunderstanding or general uncertainty then things should start to become a lot clearer from this week on. You need to survey the landscape before you decide where to go from here and any hasty action, despite the demands of others, will only lead to a change of plans within a short period of time. Big stuff is on the cards, but be patient for a another week or so and if necessary, bluff.

Capricorn 22 Dec - 19 JanWith the Sun in Taurus for the next few weeks this is a time for letting your hair down especially with friends and colleagues. If loved ones have been a bit frosty lately, take heart. While there could be a problem this weekend it is more likely to be due to confusion or a misunderstanding although that is no excuse for bad manners. The truth or real story is likely to emerge sooner or later bringing an opportunity to build bridges.

Aquarius 20 Jan - 18 FebAn important romantic matter that has been going round and round your head like a fairground carousel should start to get a little less confusing, uncertain or complicated. Meantime, this isn’t really the time for making loans to loved ones or friends. This is the time for collecting what’s due, not for splashing out, however guilty you feel. Whether through letter, e-mail or a telephone conversation, an important heart-to-heart is necessary to sort out your love life.

Pisces 19 Feb - 20 MarAn important relationship which is also inextricably connected with your financial situation is set to take a turn for the better. However, while the situation should be simplified you’re not out of the woods yet and you could easily be drawn into a power struggle on the domestic front when what you need right now is little more conversation and a little less action. You’ve still got a couple of weeks yet before it’s necessary for you to get yourself in shape.

4 cups of water

1 tsp of haldi (turmeric)

1 tsp of paprika

1 tsp of salt

Masoor Ki Daal (Egyptian lentils)

Soak the lentils for a few hours in hot water. Wash and then put it back in the pot with 4 cups of water, paprika, turmeric, salt. Bring to boil, and then simmer for 30 minutes till it becomes soft and thick. Now in a small pan heat 2 tbsp of oil, add one tsp of whole jeera (cumin), 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds and 2 dry red chillies. When the mustard seeds start sputtering, add this to the lentil. Heat and serve with boiled rice with all other meat and vegetable dishes. This is the most popular version of lentil curry. Most homes have this dish at lunchtime with boiled rice.

WILL HE FORGET ME?

It’s been 2 years since I have liked this boy who is older than me, he likes me too. He is about to start uni in a few months. We have been making out from time to time, but nothing official. I am scared that when he moves away for uni I might not be able to get over him, and will he just forget me? What shall I do?

Answer

If he really likes you he will stay in

contact and he will be willing to make it work for you. If it’s not going to be, he’ll move on and so should you. You need to think; is he worth waiting for? Good luck sweetie.

SHOULD I STAY WITH MY HUSBAND?

I’ve been with my husband for 12 years and we have been married for 9. About four years ago I realised I just didn’t fancy him anymore. He no longer cares about how he looks; I know it’s much more than a person’s appearance that counts, but its much deeper.

He is also very controlling with the way he treats me and makes me feel second class. Sex is awful because even though I still love him I have no

sexual desire for him at all.

About two months ago I started having an affair with a guy I’ve known for about 20 years. It’s made me realise what I’ve been missing for so long. I’ve confessed to my husband and he’s devastated.

He said he hadn’t realised there was anything wrong with our relationship and wants us to try and work it out. He is a good father to our little girl who is 8. Should I stay with my husband even though I am no longer in love with him just for the sake of security for myself and my child or should I follow my heart and try to find the love I want?

Answer

That’s’ a tough one, on one side you have the father of your child, someone you love and care for, who provides

for you, and on the other hand you have someone who is fulfilling your sexual needs... for many this is quite simple, but for the person who is involved emotionally it is another question. Try looking at this logically, ask yourself, was sex ever good with my husband, and what has changed in our relationship which has blown out this fire between us. If you can answer them, try working on rekindling the passion between you and your husband, you might be able to work through this. If at the end you still feel the same, then do what your heart says. But don’t just break your marriage without giving it another shot. You have already told your husband about your feelings, he is aware, that was the hard part, now you both can work together in making this marriage work. Good luck

This week in the Motoring HUB, we are looking at the

Honda Civic Type R.Described as a high

performance car, the Type R was born to race. It’s a distinctive blend of style, strength, performance and power.

Complete with 18” alloys, The Type R badge is right at the front of the vehicle and only features on the most powerful of cars.

The attention to detail doesn’t stop there. Other exclusive features include drilled aluminium pedals, leather steering wheel with red stitching, and sculptured Alcantara seats.Performance

The Honda Civic Type R has intelligent variable valve timing and lift electronic control, this allows the car a smoother drive with a breathtaking performance.

The car will draw in enough fuel and air to maintain power whilst cruising along but hitting the pedal will give the car a surge of power.

On the 2.0, the Type R can go from 0-62mph in an expressive 6.6 seconds.

Included are low-fiction high compression pistons and a large diameter exhaust system which

makes this vehicle unique.Safety and Security

For extra safety on the Type R, Honda built their own test centre, specifically for this model.

The car is kitted out with endless features such as an upgraded suspension system, powerful break calipers and active headrests to minimise whiplash.

As well as that, the vehicle has vehicle stability assist, an anti-lock braking system and front, side and curtain airbags.

These features will insure a safe and secure drive in this fast car.Ride and Handling

The Type R has sporty and powerful aluminum foot rests and Type R Alcantra sports seats; included are split folding second row seats for extra room.

The full interior has a sporty design with built in sunshades in both the driver’s and the passenger’s mirrors.

It also has electric power assisted steering, a lift and telescopic steering wheel adjustment and a centre console armrest for extra comfort.Toys

This Type R model is equipped with many standard features that make the car much more appealing.

The car has a dual zone

climate control system which allows the driver and the passenger to enjoy different air temperatures and distribution so everyone is satisfied.

Clever pieces of equipment are also included within the vehicle such as cruise control, automatic rain sensing windscreen wipers and dual curtain supplemental restraint system airbags.

If you’re looking for an affordable car then this isn’t going to suit you, The Honda Civic Type R is for an adrenaline junkie; someone looking for a powerful and aggressive ride.

It’s a sports car with a contemporary look and has co-ordinated interior from its matching steering wheel to its seats.

Its safety aspects are very appealing but the Type R consumes a lot in fuel, if you’re willing to pay out extra for that then this models for you.

BATTLEBattle of the Bands Grand Final

by Gary McCord

Since we last updated you, The Commercial Hotel’s Battle of the Bands competition has seen both the third semi final take place and subsequently the Grand Final held

on Thursday 21st April with The Fiction taking the honours. In the last of three semi-finals, Mercury Underground, Ashtones, Audio King and

Sunflower Tuesdays battled it out to a busy Commercial Bar with Audio King being the overall standout act of the evening and joining Forever Void and The Fiction in the Grand Final. Sunflower Tuesdays were overjoyed to take the remaining final place as the wildcard entry.

A packed Commercial saw The Fiction take the crown as overall winners on the night, however the other three finalists Forever Void, Sunflower Tuesdays and AudioKing deserve significant praise for providing an evening of outstanding entertainment and were all highly scored by the judges.

The Fiction were runaway winners and are definitely bringing something new to the music scene with elements of jazz, alt-rock, soundscape, power-pop and prog-collide to form a new breed of music.

As winners, they received a complete band kit-out and will be treated to rehearsals, mentoring, recording and mastering at FML Recording Studios with 1,000 printed copies of their EP as well as seeing it released worldwide on iTunes.

No one left empty handed as the runners-up left with either cash, Pro Tools digital recording/editing suites or powered Tannoy Speakers.

The Commercial Hotel would again like to thank everyone who contributed to the event including Foundry Music Lab, Magnum Sound, Media Spec, Tannoy, STV and The Wishaw HUB plus brewers Jack Daniels, Bacardi, Heineken, Sol, Tennents, Guinness, Smirnoff and Sours.

Double trouble for Rovers as Wishaw make it two wins

in a row with J P McBride and Kieron Clarke both scoring twice to put a major dent in the home side’s promotion aspirations in Wishaw’s first visit to the new John Cumming Stadium.

The home side settled quickest dominating the opening spell and creating three clear chances in the first ten minutes as Wishaw appeared to be struggling to come to terms with the surface. Fortunately for the visitors, Gallagher was in good form and the score remained level. The opening goal against the run of play came in 27 minutes after Stuart Little won a free kick on the left near the edge of the box. J P McBride’s dipping shot fooled everyone passing

through a ruck of players and ending in the far corner of the goal, much to the surprise of Carluke keeper McLaughlin. McBride was also to score his ,and Wishaw’s, second in 38 minutes after a fine run down the right touchline by Grant whose cutback was deflected into the path of McBride who chested the ball down before slamming in home. Minutes earlier Carluke’s Arnott had been booked for protesting overlong for a penalty claim turned down by referee Winning.

The second half started with Wishaw looking to further increase their lead but despite a spell of pressure it was took the visitors a full 15 minutes before unlocking the home defence, James Coffey’s run and shot rebounding off the

right hand post to Kieron Clarke who promptly drove the ball past Mclaughlan. The game was put well out of reach of the home side after a well worked move involving Clarke, Grant and McBride with Clarke neatly slipping the ball under the keeper’s body for his second. In 72 minutes Gallagher pulled of a fine save from a Mark Weir free kick before finally being beaten by a shot from substitute McStay the home side having broke upfield after an intense period of pressure from Wishaw. Gallagher had to go off injured five minutes from the end with Mulrine taking over in goal. As the match drew to a close, Wishaw substitute McIntyre was thwarted by McLaughlan who just managed to touch his header on to the bar and out to safety.

Carluke Rovers – McLaughlin, Moffat, Jackson, Barr, Slater, McPake, Dickson, Savage,

Pollok, Arnott, Weir. Subs – McStay, Ferguson, Mcaulay, Ferguson, Young, Murray, MacFarlane

Wishaw – Gallagher, Docherty, Little, Noble, Hamilton, Kearney, Grant, Meechan,

K Clarke, J.P. McBride, Coffey. Subs – M. Clarke, McIntyre, Mulrine.

Wishaw are at home to Benburb on Saturday at the Sports Centre. K.O. 2.00. The visitors are still in with a chance of lifting the title so this will be a tough test for a rapidly improving local side. On Monday Wishaw expect to play host to Lesmahagow in their last home game of the season.

Wishaw Juniors Ladies travelled to Cardenden on Sunday 17th April

to take on Cowdenbeath in a Division One league match that saw Wishaw desperately short of numbers and could only field 11 players, including trialist Maxine McCrindle. Wishaw Juniors started well and took the lead after 18 minutes after a Pamela Liddell free-kick on the left hit the cross bar and from the rebound Rachel Everett stepped forward to side-foot a volley into the net.

In the second half, trialist Maxine McCrindle was settling in well in midfield and her inch perfect pass out to the right allowed Pamela Liddell to collect the ball and race down the right. Cutting into the box, she drew the keeper and slid the ball across the goal mouth for Dionne Brown to tap into an empty net for Wishaw’s second. Cowdenbeath were

not out of it by any means and they created a few chances of their own with Wishaw having to clear the ball from the line. After 57 minutes the third goal for Wishaw came from Pamela Liddell who beat the offside trap and raced through on goal to slot the ball past the keeper making it 3 nil. Cowdenbeath replied immediately through Captain Kimberly Tennant to make the score 3-1. However, Wishaw wrapped up the points in the 90th minute when Pamela Liddell scored her second and Wishaw’s fourth. These three points leave Wishaw unbeaten this season.

Wishaw - McIntyre, McLellan, Crichton, Creechan, McKenzie, Brown, Everett, J Gallon, L Gallon, Liddell, McCrindle

Next up for the Ladies is a league cup match at home to East Fife on Sunday 24th April – venue to be confirmed.

Strathclyde parkrun is 1year old! Meaning

Strathclyde’s no longer a baby and has progressed to the toddler stage.

The birthday bash was a great success, 120 runners took part with plenty of volunteers helping out. The sun was shining, it

was lovely and warm, and thanks to the runners there were lots of goodies to eat including birthday cake, and refreshments such as tea,

coffee, juice and water, thank goodness for the water as it was so hot the runners really needed it.

After the run there was a presentation ceremony, the lucky winners were:

John Connor, Male Points Competition

Maggie Gebbie, Female Points Competition

Neil Robbins, HUB Volunteer of the Year (32 times he’s volunteered, - thank you Neil from all at parkrun)

Julie Paterson, Jammy parkrunner of the Year (10 minutes improvement)

Ally Robb, Event Co-ordinator told the HUB: “You’re all winners to us and we’d like to thank everyone

for supporting us over the year.”

George from Sweatshop handed out vouchers to each of the runners to use in their shop; he also had the new Nike Sports watch with him, which looks great. If you are looking for new running gear you might want to consider going along to the Sweatshop who are one of parkrun sponsors and provides the monthly prize of a pair of running shoes to every parkrun event.

Wishaw High School FP’s had to call on all their reserves of energy in a

dour struggle in this years semi final of The Scottish Amateur Cup at New Douglas Park, Ham-ilton last Friday the 15th April. They managed to eventually come out on top despite having to play the full of extra time with 10 men after goalkeeper Paul O’Hara had been sent off rather harshly after he was adjudged to have handled the ball outside his area with 5 minutes to go at the end of the 90 minutes.

The FPs had managed to patch up injury doubt Allan Lit-tlejohn who had suffered a hip injury in the bruising encounter the week previous against Drum-chapel AFC and FPs manager Gary Hailstones had given the central midfielder right up to the last minute to prove his fitness. The FPs started the match on the front foot and captain Stephen Mackie had a speculative effort fly well over as early as the 7th minute. On 13 minutes, The FPs Brett Ansell found himself clear after being put through on goal by Littlejohn but Ansell could only drive the ball straight at The Postal keeper Thomas Hollis on this occasion. Despite the FPs having the better of the play in the opening 20 minutes of the match, all their efforts were ei-ther rushed or well wide or high of their target and in truth rarely troubled Hollis in the Postal goal. It was fully 25 minutes before Postal had their 1st attempt on O’Hara’s goal when midfielder John Jarvis fired well wide of the target. 5 minutes later Postal’s centre forward Michael Anderson should have done better with his header when he failed to connect properly with a superbly weighted cross from the left wing by Ben Mills. The FPs striker Alan Patrick had a header well saved by Hollis on 42 minutes and right on the half time whistle Patrick again lost his marker out wide and sent over an inviting ball which FPs captain Stephen Mackie had to stretch to his lim-its to reach and he couldn’t get enough on his header to divert it down towards goal.

At half time, FPs coach Gus Boyle urged his players to get the ball down and pass it through the midfield as in the 1st half everything looked rushed and with neither sides midfield

areas dominating the other it looked like it would take either a mistake or something special to win this tense nervy affair and again The FPs started the 2nd period well and only 2 minutes in, Patrick again flashed a good cross along the Postal 6 yard line and Allan Littlejohn’s deft touch sailed agonisingly by the back post. Postal responded well and John Jarvis fired a well hit 25 yard effort a yard over O’Hara’s crossbar to signal Postal’s intent for the remainder of the match. Long diagonal balls were causing the Postal full backs considerable cause for concern and it was from one of these balls from Gary Miller that Allan Littlejohn found the onrushing Brett Ansell who had worked the left hand side tirelessly for The FPs all night and his shot looked destined for the bottom corner of the net until Hollis dived superbly to hold onto the effort low down to his left. At this point, the game was going from end to end and Postal’s Peter McClelland had a header sail inches by but if he had left it to his team mate Gary Hughes, he would surely have netted as he was in the better position. Just as the match seemed to be heading into e-t with both sides tiring , though anxious not to make any mistakes the match exploded into life when a good ball over the top of The FPs back line saw Michael Anderson attempt to prod the ball past the onrushing O’Hara who had raced from his 18 yard box in an effort to clear the danger and the ball hit the arm of O’Hara and the referee wasted no time in blowing his whistle and showing O’Hara a red card for deliberate hand ball. A decision The FPs felt was harsh as sweeper Gerry Jamieson was undoubtedly behind O’Hara when the foul was committed and would certainly have cleared up the danger. FPs central midfield player Gary Miller had no hesitation in offering his serv-ices to take over from O’Hara and he pulled off a stunning save from the resultant free kick diving low to his right to push a goal bound effort from Postal substitute John Lappin.

At the end of the 90 minutes it looked like the best The FPs

could hope for was to try and see the extra-time out and take their chances in a penalty shoot-out, however as anyone who has played, watched or been involved in football at any level will tell you, it is often difficult to play against 10 men and The FPs played their best football of the game in the extra-time period and with seconds to go in the 1st period of the extra-time, FPs Stevie Murdoch curled in an invit-ing corner which was met su-perbly by captain Stephen Mackie and the ball found the back of the net much to the delight of the large Wishaw contingent which had packed the main stand.

Despite some concerted pressure on Millers goal in the 2nd period of the extra-time, The FPs rearguard of Montgomery, Jamieson and Burnside stood firm and the celebrations at the end were in stark contrast to The Postal side who must have been dejected at not being able to breach the 10 man FPs for the last ½ hour of the match.

The Scottish Amateur Cup Final is scheduled to take place at Almondvale Stadium in Living-ston on Saturday 28th May 2011. The full details of The Final will

be announced nearer the time. This weekend The FPs have

no game due to The Easter Weekend.

After the midweek defeat by Larkhall Thistle, Wishaw’s management

team were looking for a much improved performance on Saturday as the home side took on Larkhall’s other club Royal Albert at Wishaw Sports Centre. The team responded in magnificent style and never looked in any danger of losing the match dominating almost from the start and even hitting the woodwork no less than 3 times.

The individual performance of the day came from striker Kieron Clarke netting his first hat-trick for the club.

After a brief opening flurry from Albert, Wishaw started to take control of the game and took the lead after 20 minutes with J P McBride launching the ball from midfield to Stuart

Little on the left. His cross into the middle found Clarke after Coffey confused the defence jumping over the ball leaving his partner to strike the ball home past Gary Fisher in the Albert goal. Clarke’s second came shortly before half time, again Little was the provider from the left although this time from a free kick which the striker rattled in from near the edge of the box.

After only 5 minutes of the second half the match was finished as a contest when Grant ran free on the right, ghosting past two defenders as he ran into the box and unleashing an unstoppable left footer past Fisher. Substitute Daryl Docherty almost laid on a fourth with his first touch sending the ball in from the left to Grant but this time the shot

went past. However, the fourth was not long in coming with Clarke completing his hat-trick on the 70 minute mark finishing a neat passing move by Little and JP McBride, the latter lofting the ball to Clarke to head the ball home.

Match Sponsor – TRI- FIX Fasteners The club would also like to thank The Glass Man for sponsoring the match v Larkhall.

Wishaw - Gallagher, Devenney, Little, Noble, Kearney, Hamilton, Coffey, Meechan, K. Clarke, J P McBride, Grant, Subs- Airth, Docherty, M Clarke.

Royal Albert – Fisher, Pow, Anderson, Nesbit, Cooper, Smith, Dickson, Stokoe, Clarc, J Lippiat, McLachlan. Subs Dorrans, Sneddon, Johnston Orr, C Lippiat

This was the first league meeting between the two

local rivals with Hamilton scoring an earlier victory in the league cup.

Wishaw started positively and scored from their first mean-ingful attack when Richardson shot home from just inside the

box as Hamilton failed to clear. Wishaw continued to dominate from their opener and really should have extended their lead further but missed a couple of good openings. In 12 minutes Hamilton forced a corner and when the ball came in Wishaw failed to clear their lines and there was little hesitation from a Hamilton midfielder as she struck the ball from twenty yards into the roof of the net. Both teams then had a number of chances to take the lead, however the keepers were in tremendous form and a number of fine saves were made.

With the score sitting at 1 a-piece at half time, the second half commenced with Hamilton reduced to ten players due to in-jury as a player was left unable to return to the field. With no substitutes available, Hamilton

had to resort to a defensive for-mation which allowed Wishaw the space to pass the ball to their advantage. The Hamilton keeper was now extremely busy and managed to keep the visi-tors at bay for a time, however, another attack ended with the ball breaking to Roberts in the box and she coolly rounded the keeper and put Wishaw ahead. With no option other than to at-tack, Hamilton pushed forward and left themselves exposed at the back where Richardson profited with Wishaw’s third and her own second as she beat the offside trap and placed the ball into the bottom corner with five minutes remaining.

A good result for Wishaw but Hamilton deserved praise for their commitment with only ten players for the entire second half.

Followers of Lanarkshire football teams had twice the

reason to celebrate as not only did Motherwell make it through to the finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time in 20 years, but also local amateur team Wishaw High FP’s (Former Pupils) made it through to the finals of The Scottish Amateur Cup with an extra time winning goal at New Douglas Park in Hamilton.

Despite having a player sent off just before the end of normal time, for the first time in the clubs 52 year history, a 1-0 extra time win over Postal UTD saw 10 man Wishaw

High FP beat the odds to secure their place in the Scottish Amateur Cup Final.

After the match, Wishaw FP manager Gary Hailstones could not speak highly enough of all of his players after the match and stated. “Despite not playing well, semi-finals of this magnitude are notoriously tense nervy affairs and it is important if you’re not at your best then to make sure the other side don’t dominate and that’s what we did. I’m sure both sides are far better than we showed tonight but it’s all about getting through

it and 1 moment of magic from our inspirational captain Stephen Mackie was enough to settle the match.”

With the stadium packed, Gary went on to thank everyone for their support. “I’d also like to personally thank everyone who came down to Hamilton on the night to lend their support. Rest assured everyone at The FPs really appreciate the support, good luck messages and backing we have received and the atmosphere back in our main sponsors The Waverley Bar was electric.”

The full match report is included in our HUB Sports section and The Scottish Amateur Cup Final is scheduled to take place at Almondvale Stadium in Livingston on Saturday 28th May 2011. The full details of The Final will be announced nearer the time.

Mothwell saw off St Johnstone with a 3 nil victory to secure their long overdue place in a Scottish Cup Final and manager Stuart McCall was overjoyed, saying “I'm delighted to be through. I thought it was a competent display, good energy, willingness for each other and if you

don't put the hard work in, you don't get anything so I'm delighted for every one of them.”

Discussing the celebrations following the match, McCall added “I'll let them have a shandy tonight and I'll let the staff have a couple. For everyone, the supporters, the staff, the players, we've got to enjoy the moment and we've got a cup final to look forward to but, prior to that, we've got five great games in the SPL."

Motherwell are due to face Celtic in the final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday 21st May 2011.
