Top performance thanks to Multi Resistant Coating (MRC)

On a filter coated with super-hydrophobic material (MRC nano) a water drop remains practically spherical. It rolls off the surface. There is an outstanding dirt- and water-repellent effect.

On a filter coated with hydrophobic material (MRC) the water drop is noticeably flatter. It beads off the surface. There is a dirt- and water-repellent effect.

On an uncoated filter or a filter with single coating (E) the water drop remains flat. There is no dirt- or water-repellent effect.

B+W Neutral Density (ND) Filters Creative by using less light

ND filters or neutral density (ND) filters are used if too much light restricts creative possibilities. They reduce the light in accordance with their density. They therefore allow longer exposure times or more widely opened apertures.

Application examples

• Soft flowing effect for moving water• Continuous light trails, wipe effects • “Deserted” places with long time exposure• Reducing the depth of field

Practical tips

• Flowing effects will work from a shutter speed of ¼ s.• The longer the exposure time, the greater the effect

(ND 106/110)• Experiment with different exposure times• Manual exposure setting is recommended• Low ISO setting, small aperture size• Always use a tripod

B+W ND Filters Balancing the light between sky and earth

Graduated filters are colorless and compensate excessive contrasts between the sky and the landscape. Clouds gain definition, sky blue acquires depth. The filters can be rotated in the mount in order to adapt the graduation to the horizon.

Practical tips

• The line of the horizon should be at the centre of the image• The density is measured at the darkest area in each situation• The rotatable mount enables horizontal orientation

Practical tips

• IR effect works only in bright light• The focus must be set before attaching the (non-trans-

parent) filter• Check the infrared marking on the lens• Select lower aperture values• Exposure time is determined experimentally based on experience• Avoid back light, keep the sun behind you or to the side

Note:

• Test the camera for IR capability with a remote-control unit e.g. for a TV. Hold the activated IR remote-control up to the camera. If a dot of white light appears on the monitor, the camera is IR-capable

• IR images must be optimized in an image editor• Convert color image to black and white• Increase the contrasts automatically or in the histogram

Professional filter cleaning in a few steps

1. Remove loose dust with a brush or bellows2. Breathe on the surface and wipe it with a B+W microfiber

cloth3. In the case of stubborn dirt, apply B+W Lens Cleaner

sparingly and indirectly with a B+W microfiber cloth and wipe clean with a dry part of the cloth.
