School Photos – Monday 17 August 2020 Year 5/6 Camp Current restrictions are still easing and school camps are currently ‘under consideration’ from Term 3. At this point, we still have our booking for the Yr 5/6 Camp and will inform all parents and carers once the Department of Education informs us of their decision. School Hours We have many students arriving before 8:45am. Our work hours, duty of care and supervision starts at 8:45am. If your child arrives before this time they are unsupervised and usually this is when issues arise. Please ensure your child/ren arrive at school between 8:45 and 9:15am. If you are needing before school care please arrange with your family and friends or contact Neil at ‘Schools Out’ on 0414 607 396. Covid-19 Testing Due to the colder weather, many students are going to their GP as they have cold-like symptoms. Most GPs are referring patients to get a Covid-19 test as a precaution. It is important that you let the school know as soon as you have been sent to get a test, rather than waiting to receive the results. This is because we need to log every Covid-19 test through our ‘incident line’ and the Department can be on standby if a positive result is returned. Thank you for your understanding in this and ensuring that we all continue to keep safe. Speech Pathology & Hearing Screening for Kindergarten This semester we are involved in a trial hearing and speech pathology screening and speech therapy program. A note went home today via School Stream for all interested Kindergarten parents and carers. From this screening Mrs Karen Ip, Speech pathologist will work with a targeted group of students on Thursdays at school. Dear parents and carers My name is Karen Ip. I have been a speech pathologist for 12 years and my special interest is early intervention - providing speech therapy to children with early speech sounds, language and feeding difficulties. I am very grateful for having the opportunity to offer Speech Pathology Programs to students at Queanbeyan West Public School. I am very excited about working with the students to increase their communication skills like producing clearer sounds, understanding and using a variety of language skills! I will come on Thursdays and can’t wait to meet you all. P&C News

Representative Sport Cancelled The effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic have been felt throughout the education community, and many difficult choices have been made that have had significant impacts on schools and students. Schools have not had the opportunity to organise their stage of the trials process consequently, the representative pathway at the Association and State levels cannot be conducted in terms three (3) and four (4) of the school year. It is not possible for schools to rearrange activities at this stage of the year given limitations with venue availability and rescheduling the many educational and sporting events on a school calendar. We understand your disappointment and concerns in not being able to participate in these programs during COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.

School Values Focus Be Respectful: Speak politely to your peers and staff For the next two weeks our whole school PBL focus is: Students have been discussing why it is important to speak politely to all people in our school and community. Manners are a way we can speak politely to others. If you were the only person in the world, you would not need manners. But there are lots of people in the world, and good manners help everyone get along together.

SCHOOL UNIFORM All students must wear school uniform each day. Boys wear a gold polo shirt and the green shorts or grey shorts. The girls wear a gold polo shirt and green shorts or skirt. The girls are also able to wear the school uniform dress. No jewellery except stud earrings please. A school sun safe hat must be worn, no baseball caps as these do not provide enough protection.
