Dear parents and caregivers, Staff news I am excited to welcome a new staff member to FWPS. Ms Smriti Sekhar has been appointed as a new graduate and will be working as the librarian for the rest of 2019. Netball Congratulations to the year 5 and year 6 netball teams who represented FWPS at the Netball Schools Cup! You can read the full article later in the newsletter. Education Week Celebration Last week joined together to celebrate Public Education. We were honoured to have so many community members here. This year’s theme is ‘Every student, every voice’. I trust those who were with us enjoyed their time. On Monday the students began with a Science Fun Session where they engaged in science experiements. This was followed by the annual Maths Amazing Race where students are required to race around solving mathematical problems to gain a stamp on their passport.

Tuesday morning the community was treated to a concert by talented students in our school. Several dance groups and the choir performed as well as many teachers. On Thursday we continued to celebrate Education Week by having an Art Exhibition, a shared lunch and the Book Character Parade.

News from the Principal – Genelle Goldfinch

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Genelle Goldfinch I respect and acknowledge Aboriginal People as the traditional owners of the land on which I work, live and visit.

K/5F Class Report This term the students in K/5F are joining forces with K/4C and K/2P to

learn about insects and how to look after the garden where insects live. This is an exciting science unit of work, because we can be outside and use lots of

interesting equipment, like magnifying glasses and gardening tools.

We found some dead insects and brought them into the classroom to study

them under a magnifying glass.

And we always pack up our equipment.

We can’t wait to find out more about insects and the

gardens where they live…

Student Learning

1/2W have had a fabulous week of learning during Education Week! We participated in Science Fun Day by

experimenting and observing how materials react together. Our experiment was the Magic Pepper experiment. We observed how one drop of soap can repel pepper.

We have been incredibly busy creating and making our artworks for our school’s

Art Exhibition. We created a large rainbow poster and a beautiful garden that highlighted the message of being

kind and lending a hand to others and the environment.

Finally we were very excited to dress up as our favourite characters and show our costumes to the entire school during the

annual Book Character Parade
