APRIL 20 14 the Wesley Messenger Wesley United Methodist Church, Union City, Indiana Wesley Easter Services “He is Risen; He is Risen indeed!” Hello, people of Wesley United Methodist Church! My name is Pastor Bill Dunfee and though I haven’t met most of you yet, I hope to get to know many of you over the next few months. I am coming to work with you and among you to do the thing that pastors are meant to do which will be to bring love of Jesus Christ to you and receive from you what we pastors always hope for which is the love of Jesus Christ. That is the task of the church. After our surviving a brutal winter my hope is that we will soon start feeling the warmth of an approaching spring. Leading up to that time I know that the church will be searching for a new and warmer relationship with Jesus Christ through the disciplines of prayer, worship, scripture reading and study. It is the Christian season of Lent – the time above all others to reach out for reconciliation with our Lord and each other. Paul tries to explain our reason for being during this journey that we’re on in 2 Corinthians 5:19-20: “that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself..and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ be reconciled to God.” For now let’s make a pact. I will pray for you during this time together for your growing faith and fulfillment of your lives and you can pray for me also. May God bless and keep everyone of you. Have a great Lenten Season and a wonderful Easter. “He is Risen; He is Risen indeed!” Pastor Bill Sunrise Service 8:00AM Breakfast 8:45AM Combined Service 10:00AM

Hello, people of Wesley United Methodist Church! My name is

Pastor Bill Dunfee and though I haven’t met most of you yet, I hope to get to know many of you

over the next few months. I am coming to work with you and

among you to do the thing that pastors are meant to do which

will be to bring love of Jesus Christ to you and receive from

you what we pastors always hope for which is the love of Jesus

Christ. That is the task of the church.

After our surviving a brutal winter my hope is that we will

soon start feeling the warmth of an approaching spring. Leading

up to that time I know that the church will be searching for a

new and warmer relationship with Jesus Christ through the

disciplines of prayer, worship, scripture reading and study. It is

the Christian season of Lent – the time above all others to reach out

for reconciliation with our Lord and each other. Paul tries to

explain our reason for being during this journey that we’re

on in 2 Corinthians 5:19-20: “that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to

himself..and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his

appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ be

reconciled to God.”

For now let’s make a pact. I

will pray for you during this time together for your growing

faith and fulfillment of your lives and you can pray for me

also. May God bless and keep everyone of you.

Have a great Lenten Season and a wonderful Easter. “He is

SPRING 2016 THE LOREM IPSUMS

HAPPY SPRING from the Wesley KIDS! I remember when the kids were SO excited about the snow…. then I remember when they

weren’t. I think this year we are all ready for warmer weather, a new season, and SPRING!

In the Children’s Sunday School Class we have been busy learning about the Fruits of the Spirit. We have learned that taking on the characteristics of Christ are not as easy as they seem, it sounds easy to say that you will love but Christ say that love is NEVER angry and that it’s ALWAYS patient. Then there is joy; we agreed that we wanted to spread the joy of Christ but sometimes you have to be joyful to people who are mean, bullies, and who are not nice to you. It really isn’t as easy as it sounds is what we are discovering but we are trying very hard to become more and more Christ-like every day.

We are continuing our fundraising mission. Chief Cobie Wells and K-9 Dino recently visited our class and we presented them with the $1000 check that we raised to help Dino retire. Chief Wells talked to the class, showed the class how Dino obeys commands and talked to us about how we choose to obey the Lord. Dino performed a search for a lost ball. We presented Dino with a basket of doggie treats, toys, and goodies that all of the children brought in for him. Presently the children are working to raise money for the mission trip that the church will be going on this summer. The church is trying to raise money to build soccer goals in Roatan. The children would like to raise $300 for

soccer nets and soccer balls for the children of Roatan. We are also collecting used soccer shoes, socks, and

shin guards that any children may have out-grown and have extra at home and could donate.

Our Sunday School Class is working together with the women of Yadda Yadda to present a Baked Potato Bar to support our fundraising efforts for the Roatan mission. Please consider buying a ticket for the Baked Potato Bar which will be after second service on Sunday, April 6 . You will receive a baked potato for which there will be a variety of toppings from which you can choose, a drink and a dessert. You may choose to dine-in or carryout. Tickets are $5.00 and available from Ruth Schweigert or Sharon Hoggatt.

Easter Egg Hunt this year will be Saturday April 18. Please watch your email and listen in church for more announcements. Thank you for always being so supportive of the kids and their efforts.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Slate Shingles Available

The Wesley Trustees have available the old slate shingles that have been removed from the steeple. Many artists covet slate to paint on. If you’d like to

have a piece of slate to paint on, know someone who would, or you just want to own a piece of history

there is a box in the sanctuary for you to dig through. The slate is old and dirty, so you might like

to wear a pair of gloves. They are accepting donations of any amount for these shingles.

Community Wide Good Friday Service

@ Trinity Lutheran Church April 18 at 7:00 pm

We Appreciate You! This month we would like to thank Brad & Amy Hoggatt for their dedication to the Lord and our church. They have served as our music leaders in First Service for many years. Brad has conducted many Christmas & Easter Cantatas over the years, too. They have both served on many committees at Wesley, and most recently Amy has taken the position as Staff Parish Chairperson. They are both extremely busy with church and community events, and for this we want to say THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU!
