In 1972 Wiepke van de Lageweg bought his first horse for breeding. What started for him as a hobby with only one breeding mare, expanded into an international operating family company: The VDL Stud (located in a little village in the north of Holland).

The VDL stud has a modern facility to train young horses, a breeding facility with approximately 70 breeding mares and an European Certified Stallion Station with more than 50 approved stallions, who are stationed all over the world.

Through a strict selection over the years the breeding program of the VDL Stud is existing out of excellent breeding mares with the best blood-lines.

Raising the young horses healthy is very important and at the same time training them in the right way. So anybody who wants a horse can find one, which fits to his or her needs.

We are very proud that Equestrian Sport Productions has asked us again to provide horses for the 2017 WEF Sport Horse Auction. This means a great deal to us as WEF is one of the top horse shows in the world and a great place to showcase the quality of our horses.

Over the years VDL Stud has produced a long list of great sport horses that were medal winners at Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games, European Championships and winners at Grand Prix and World Cup qualifiers. 2016 has been a great year again for our Stud with a list of great results. Zirocco Blue NOP was very successful in with the Dutch Team in the Nation Cups, Our stallions Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest, Carrera VDL, Arezzo VDL, Cartello VDL, Baltic VDL, Corporal VDL where all successful at the International GP’s. Top talents Etoulon VDL, Durango VDL, Dakar VDL, Comfortuna VDL and Freeman VDL all debuted at International level with great results and a lot of expectations for the future. Global Express VDL won the 5 year old Championship in Holland. Farrell VDL was 6th at the World Championship for 6 year olds in Lanaken and was one of the best horses in the class. Farrell VDL is one of the TOP horses we selected for this years auction. Our 3 year old mare It’s a Girl GR won the National Championship for 3 yar old mares and we had 3 more mares in the Final top 10. A great year again for our Stud.

Many of the horses sold in previous auctions are performing great for their owners and riders at all levels. Don Vito (Dior), who is a full brother to our Grand Prix stallion Baltic VDL, was ridden by Sergio Moya but now recently sold and ridden by Ben Maher. This new combination was amazing at London Olympia show and as 8 year old horse he was one of the most successful horses overall at that top show. Farona was sold in last years auction and won the 6 year old series in Canada with her rider Daniel Coyle. Besides that, they won 3 classes at Spruce Meadows this summer. Also they placed in the Canadian Series Finals where in 6 year olds Quintin VDL placed 3rd, Essedon (Foxanne JR) placed 5th and VDL Ferrari SMH placed 6th. In the 5 year olds Remmington (Glenn VDL) became 3rd and Nikita (Gina) became 8th. Several horses that were sold at the auction are already successful at Grand Prix level and a lot more will follow. At the references pages you will find a good amount of the horses that were sold at previous auctions. Results don’t lie and we are very proud that a lot of the riders and owners are very successful with the horses.

We very much look forward to the auction and believe that with a great organizer such as Equestrian Sport Productions and the quality of the horses in the auction, this will be a great event and hopefully create many very satisfied new owners, trainers and riders.

VDL Carthina Z is a very talented young mare that is very easy to ride. Her canter is very light-footed and balanced. She has a great technique and is very athletic She jumps very quick from the floor and has a lot of scope. This mare has the potential to become a Grand Prix horse.

Sire: Carthino Z was a highly successful showjumper himself and carries the excellent genes of both Carthago, Amor and Nimmerdor. Ridden by Dutch rider Gerben Morsink, Carthino Z won the silver medal at the FEI World Championships for 7-year-olds in Lanaken and won the bronze medal in both the Dutch championships as the Sires of the World. Nowadays, dozens of offspring by Carthino Z perform successfully at international level.

Dam: Carthina’s dam Varlady is a daughter of the strong broodmare Larlady. This mare produced numerous international showjumpers, such as the Grand Prix-showjumper Pjort (Chris Moyce). Varlady’s half-sister Rylady is the dam of the international show-jumper Wizzerd (Benyamin Ajdar Alshafr).

Dam’s sire: Emilion is one of the most influential sires in the Netherlands of the past thirty years. Ridden by Germany’s Ulrich Kirchhoff, Emilion was among world’s best as a showjumper and he continued his success as a sire. Offspring like Seldana (Abdullah Al Sharbatly), Glasgow (Norman Dello Joio), VDL Groep Tomboy (Eric van der Vleuten) and many more have made a name for Emilion in breeding.

Dam’s grandsire: Concorde is the third foundation sire in a row in the pedigree of Carthina Z. Concorde carries the bloodlines of Voltaire and Marco Polo and jumped at the high level with several top riders, such as Jos Lansink and Eric van der Vleuten. As a sire of stallions like Namelus R, Larino, Holland and Marius Claudius, he is still influential today. But mostly, Concorde lives on through his many, many successful daughters who all inherited his quality and light-footedness.

Indoctro son VDL Hamilton is a long lined good looking gelding. He has a good ride ability with a good canter. Hamilton has a good technique, is good and careful with good scope. This elegant VDL Hamilton is a very nice horse.

Sire: Over and over again, Indoctro is represented at the highest level by offspring. Without a doubt, he is one of the best and most influential stallions the breeding of showjump-ing has ever known. Offspring like Hello M’Lady (Scott Brash), VDL Groep Arera C (Maikel van der Vleuten), Cas (Cameron Hanley) and Baileys (Michel Hendrix) currently represent Indoctro at the very highest level of showjumping.

Dam: Bocetto Gran Satt brings in a Hanoverian damline. Her dam Grandia already produced the Hannoverian approved stallion Fosbury and the successful showjumpers Make Believe Salina and Winipeg, who jumped at 1.40m level and 1.45m level respectively.

Dam’s sire: Concetto is a son of Calleto I out of a Danish bred damline. Concetto jumped at international level with Germany’s top lady rider Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and stood out of with his great push from the ground and power. After his impressive career at Grand Prix and Nations Cup level, Concetto was successfully used in breeding.

Dam’s grandsire: Although Grannus was born 45 years ago, his influence can still be felt today. As a sire he was successful, but as a dam’s sire Grannus was one of the best ever. For Pleasure (Marcus Ehning), The Sixth Sense (Thomas Frühmann) and Weihaiwej (Franke Sloothaak) are just a few examples of legendary horses bred out of a dam by Grannus.

VDL Haraltic is a gelding that is very good to ride. He has a very light-footed athletic canter. He jumps with a good technique in his hindquarters and finishes the jump very well. He is quick in take-off and has a lot of athletic scope. Haraltic is a great horse for the future for amateur and professional.

Sire: In 2016, Baltic VDL and James Billington developed into a fantastic pair up to 1.50m level. Baltic VDL finished 2nd in the 1.50m of Drammen, 5th in the 1.50m of Kiel, 6th in the 1.45m of Wierden, 7th in the Grand Prix of Indoor Wierden and 8th in the 1.50m of both Geesteren and Ommen. In addition, Baltic VDL finished 10th in the FEI Sires of the World in Lanaken. As a sire, Baltic has already been successful with several approved sons, such as Hampton VDL who was auctioned last year at the WEF Sport Horse Auction.

Dam: VDL Haraltic’s dam Larcona is a fantastic broodmare in all aspects. She produced successful showjumpers such as Payback (Rob Hoekstra) and Watch Out (Morten Djupvik), but also the dressage sire Rhodium. In addition, Larcona is the granddam to showjumpers such as Gorre (Joseph Clayton), Elisa (Michol del Signore), Ides van de Heikant (Joy Lammers) and Fashion (Laetitia du Couëdic).

Dam’s sire: Ramiro Z is without a doubt one of the founding fathers of modern breeding of showjumpers. It is impossible to imagine a world of showjumping without the influence of Ramiro. His number of approved stallions is countless; the list of international Grand Prix showjumpers is endless.

Dam’s grandsire: Just like Ramiro Z, Voltaire is a true foundation sire. Voltaire brought the famous genes of Furioso II to the Netherlands and produced jumping talent after jumping talent. Through his world-famous son Kannan, Voltaire’s influence can still be seen today at the highest level of showjumping.

VDL Heike ES is a very nice mare. She is well bred. Her mother competed at 1.40m level. She has a lot of blood. Heike has a very quick take off. She is very careful and brave. Heike has good scope. VDL Heike ES is a winner in the ring.

Sire: At last year’s edition of the WEF Sport Horse Auction, the offspring of Falaise de Muze caught the eye with their exceptional jumping talents. Again, the collection of the WEF Sport Horse Auction included several offspring of the fantastic stallion Falaise de Muze. Ridden by Annelies Vorsselmans, Falaise jumped up to 1.50m level and showed all the scope for the highest level. Falaise is a son of Wandor van de Mispelaere out of Harrie Smolders’ famous mare Walnut de Muze. Falaise passes on scope, power and carefulness.

Dam: Ciana Z is an international showjumper herself. Ridden by Robert Vos and nowa-days Brazilian rider José Pereira Wilken Bicudo, Ciana Z jumps at international 1.40m level. Ciana’s pedigree finally goes back to the mare Festa, who also jumped at international level. In addition, this damline produced several successful showjumpers such as Liberty van de Sterhoeve (Ea Joinneau) and Venus Dream (Reto Ruflin).

Dam’s sire: Cade Z is a son of Chris Kappler’s Calvino Z out of the famous mare Malaguena la Silla, who jumped at international level with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. Malaguena la Silla is again a daughter of the legendary Quick Star and the international jumping mare Glad Tidings – a daughter of the even more famous Adith, who jumped at international level with Hap Hansen. Adith has been used as a broodmare in the United States and produced numerous successful offspring.

Dam’s grandsire: Unari van de Wolfsakker has been known in the sport as RMF Valiente, jumping up to 1.50m level with Pilar Cordon and Keean White. Nowadays this son of Quasimodo van de Molendreef – sire to Scott Brash’ Hello Sanctos – is ridden by Sarah Nagel-Tornau.

Sire: The sadly deceased Spartacus had a successful sports career at the highest level and seems to be turning into a good sire as well. Ridden by Marco Kutscher, Spartacus pulled off some wonderful results at World Cup level and later on his career he achieved success after success with Henk van de Pol. As a young stallion, he did not cover many mares, but out of this limited number some already jump at 1.50m level. In the Netherlands, his oldest offspring are now 6-years-old and look very promising.

Dam: Dudine has been awarded ‘Elite’ by KWPN and bred out of a famous Dutch damline. Her granddam Nike jumped at Grand Prix level with Andrew Davies and Nike’s dam Jente and granddam Florence also performed at the very highest level. VDL Foxellie had two foals before she was started under saddle. She is very well bred with a lot of sport horses from the mother line. Sire: Azteca VDL is a son of the world-famous Indoctro out of a dam by the Zeus-son Marlon. Azteca VDL was bred out of Holsteiner damline 474a and his great-granddam Zancara is the famous mare who produced the Olympic silver medalist and team World Champion VDL Bubalu. Grand Prix showjumpers like Montreal VDL, Pessoa VDL, Radan VDL and Wilton John VDL were also bred out of Zancara.

Dam: Besides Foxellie, Tamellie already brought the international showjumpers Ameno (Ferenc Saringer) and D’Artagnan (Santiago Lambre). 1. INSPECTION OF HORSES.The horses of the WEF Sport Horse Auction will be available for public inspection from February 22 to March 2, 2017at Ossian Ventures, 12455 Indian Mound Rd., Wellington, FL 33449 by appointment. Visits must be scheduled in advance and confirmed for VDL with Mr. Janko van de Lageweg (832-706-3407 or +01131651815225). Prospective buyers and/or their trainers are permitted to try a horse, or can ask for a ridden demonstration. VDL Stud, Ossian Ventures, and Equestrian Sport Productions, LLC will be not be held liable for any accident, incident or event that may happen before, during or after the demonstration or affect in any way a prospective buyer, its trainer or anyone else. Buyers and/or trainers ride and/or examine horses at their own risk.

2. VETTING OF HORSES AND GUARANTEE.The horses have passed a strict veterinary exam and all X-rays have been reviewed by Dr. Brendan Furlong. A complete set of X-rays and a veterinary clinical exam report for each horse is available by request, please contact Melanie Peterson 561-870-6587. Dr. Brendan Furlong can also be contacted directly at 908-439-2821. Prospective buyers are encouraged to do their own due diligence prior to the auction and obtain an opinion of a veterinarian of their choosing. In such instances, the prospective buyer must make arrangements in advance with Mr. Janko van de Lageweg in order to conduct theexamination. The horses are sold on a “as is/where is” basis. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Neither VDL Stud, nor Equestrian Sport Productions guarantee in any way the fitness or merchantability for any purpose of the horses offered in the auction.

3. BIDDING PROCEDURE.Prospective buyers must register no later than March 2, 2017 at 7pm. The auctioneer will decide for each horse the minimum bid. The highest bidder shall be the buyer and sign the Acknowledgement of Purchase. This document shall be binding, and only once it is signed, will the next horse enter the ring. In case the successful bidder does not sign the Acknowledgement of Purchase, the auctioneer can decide to bid the horse again. Telephone bidding is also available at the time of the auction. Telephone bidders must have immediate access to either a fax machine or e-mail and scanner capabilities in order to immediately return the Acknowledgement of Purchase.

4. BIDDING DISPUTES.Should any dispute arise between or among two or more bidders, auctioneer shall forthwith adjudicate the dispute, and auctioneer’s decision shall be absolute, final and binding on all parties. Bids tendered after fall of the hammer are not valid grounds for dispute. Bids received by personnel employed by auctioneer have the same stature as bids received by auctioneer in the stand. In case of dispute, at auctioneer’s sole discretion, the bidding shall be reopened for advance bids, and if there be no advance bid, the horse is sold to the person from whom auctioneer recognized the last bid. Advance bidding shall be restricted to the disputing parties, unless the bid is reduced below the level of the recognized bid at commencement of the dispute, in which case bidding is reopened to all. Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

5. FINANCING AND PAYMENT.Successful bidders must tender the full purchase price within one (1) business day in the form of a wire transfer of immediately available funds. Any successful bidder that fails to promptly make payment, stops payment, or refuses to accept delivery of the horse for any reason whatsoever, will be declared in default. VDL Stud reserves the right to sell that horse on the buyers account without prior notice and litigate with the buyer for any deficiency, including, but not limited to the purchase price, boarding costs, veterinarian bills, transportation bills, farrier bills and all legal expenses involved.

6. SALES TAX.Florida law states that any horse sold that does not originate from the producer shall be subject to sales tax of 6.5%. Sales tax will be charged in addition to the sales price at the expense of the buyer. (Specific Authority 212.17(6), 212.18(2), 213.06(1) FS. 7. DELIVERY.At the fall of the hammer, the buyer assumes all risk and responsibility for the horse. Horses will be released only when the full payment has been received in the Auction account. VDL shall maintain insurance for risk of death for the horse until Friday, March 3, 2017 at 5 pm EST. Buyer shall provide proof of equine insurance equal to One Hundred Percent (100%) of the purchase price of the horse no later than 4:00 PM EST on March 3, 2017 or have made payment as required above and made arrangements to remove the horse from the auction barn by that time. the time period from the Event through pick up of the horse. Buyers will make arrangements to pick up the horse within three (3) days of the Event, no later than Monday, March 6, 2017 by 5 pm. Buyer will be responsible for any costs of stabling and supplies for the horse after this three (3) day period. After three days, the buyer will be charged for boarding and any other expenses that VDL Stud may incur. After the hammer falls, VDL Stud, Ossian Ventures and Equestrian Sport Productions, its owners, officers, members, agents, riders, grooms or representatives shall not be liable for any accidents, theft, disease, sickness, death, injury or damage to any horse, whatsoever caused.

8. APPLICABLE LAW.All horses in this sale are offered according to these TERMS and CONDITIONS and the laws of the state of Florida. All interested parties and all sales are bound by these TERMS and CONDITIONS. This sale is an auction with reserve and VDL Stud, and their agents, has the right to bid or establish a reserve, i.e., a price below which a horse will not be sold.

9. CATALOGUE.Horses catalogued in this sale are offered with information as represented by VDL Stud. The accuracy of such information is the responsibility of VDL Stud, who has a duty to examine the catalogue page for accuracy. While certain information may have been procured by Equestrian Sport Productions, it remains solely the responsibility of VDL Stud to verify the accuracy of such information and to notify Equestrian Sport Productions of any corrections. IN CASE OF ANY ERROR, INACCURACY OR OMISSION, BUYER SHALL SEEK REDRESS ONLY FROM VDL STUD AND NOT FROM EQUESTRIAN SPORT PRODUCTIONS.

10. AGENTS.Persons purporting to act as an agent for a Buyer must file with the auctioneer a completed, notarized Authorization of Agent form such as appears attached as Exhibit A to these TERMS and CONDITIONS or notarized letter of authorization from Buyer stating that the agent is authorized to purchase at this sale for the account of Buyer and that such Buyer agrees to be bound by all actions of the agent in connection with this sale. Any person failing to comply with this Condition shall be held PERSONALLY LIABLE as the Buyer. By signing the Acknowledgment of Purchase, an agent agrees to be personally liable for the full purchase price of the horse if Buyer fails to make settlement as provided herein.

11. PROHIBITED PRACTICES.Any horse which has been subject to Prohibited Practices may result, in the Buyer’s discretion, in Buyer’s exercise of the right of return the horse. Prohibited Practices which are not permitted on the sales grounds are: (a) extracorporeal shock wave therapy or radial pulse wave therapy; (b) acupuncture and/or electro- stimulation with the intent of altering laryngeal function (c) electrical devices designed or used to increase the speed of a horse; and (d) any invasive practice which intentionally conceals a material defect or chronic lameness. Prohibited Practices which are not permitted at any time are internal blister or other injections to the knee intended to have the effect of concealing the true conformation of the horse.

12. SEVERABILITY.If any provision of these TERMS and CONDITIONS is held to be illegal or invalid, such illegality or invalidity shall not affect the remaining provisions of these TERMS and CONDITIONS, and they shall be continued and enforced as if such illegal or invalid provision had never been inserted herein.

13. TIME OF ESSENCE.Time is of the essence as to all matters set forth in these Terms and Conditions.

14. LIMITATION OF WARRANTIES. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY PROVIDED FOR HEREIN, ALL HORSES ARE SOLD “AS IS” WITH ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS AND DEFECTS AND THERE IS NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, BY AUCTIONEER, VDL STUD, EQUESTRIAN SPORT PRODUCTIONS OR THEIR REPRESENTATIVES, AS TO THE SOUNDNESS, MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE OF ANY HORSE OFFERED IN THIS SALE.
