The Land Tenure Center (LTC), University ofWisconsin-Madison, seeks to hire an intern for thesummer of 2000. The LTC has conductedprograms throughout the world that address issuesof land tenure and land use, agrarian reform, landmarkets, legislative drafting, registration and titling,institutional dimensions of rural development,natural resource management and cooperatives.Sites for the 2000 summer internship are located inTexas (near the border), Alabama and Kentucky.Prior to the internship, selected students willparticipate in a five-day training seminar in

Wisconsin which focuses on a description of theland-tenure related problems faced by thecommunities in which the interns will be working,training in the legal issues that underpin thecommunities' land tenure struggles and skillstraining in title searching, conducting anadministrative appeal and others appropriate to thestudents' summer experience. To apply, pleasesubmit a resume, transcript and 2-3 page statementof personal interest in the internship program,including interest in public interest law and in landtenure issues. The deadline to submit thisinformation to the Career Services office is March2, 2000. Students selected to participate in theprogram will receive a stipend of $3,000. Inaddition, housing will be provided, interns receivea per diem for meals, costs associated with theTraining and Orientation session are reimbursedand transportation to and from the host site maybe provided. NCCU School of Law, in conjunction withCampbell, Wake Forest and UNC Law Schools, isco-sponsoring the 3 ' Annual North CarolinaSmall Firm Job Fair. One fair will be held in theeastern part of the state in Greenville, NorthCarolina on Saturday, March 18' and the other willbe in the western part of the state in Hickory, NCon March 25". The job fair is for first, second andthird year students. North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services is nowaccepting applications for two paid summerpositions. Grant recipients are also encouraged toapply. NCPLS is a non-profit organization thatprovides a range of services from advice about theprisoners' legal rights to representation in state andfederal court. Summer interns do a wide variety ofresearch projects, assist attorneys in court, and

interview inmates. Summer positions are for tenweeks. If you are interested in applying for asummer position, please sign-up and submit yourresume to the Career Services Office by Thursday,February 24th..

The law school has received a grant in the amountof $18,000 to be used to pay students participatingin the IOLTA Public Service InternshipProgram. Six stipends in the amount of $3,000each will be awarded. Students receiving thestipends must work a minimum often weeks for apublic interest organization in North Carolina thathas been approved by IOLTA. First and secondyear students are eligible to receive the stipend.To apply, you should submit a resume, cover letterwhich details your interest in the organization thatyou have chosen, transcript, and letter from theorganization stating that they will hire you for thesummer if you are awarded the stipend. The Honorable William A. Webb, U.S.Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court,Eastern District of North Carolina, Raleigh, isaccepting applications for two clerkship positions tobegin in November 2001.
