He was born on January 25, 1925, in Dunlow, W.Va., a son of the late Wayne and Leuria Maynard Romans. He was a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church of Lavalette, W.Va. Junior’s special interests and hobbies included caring for God’s creation through build- ing beautiful bird houses and gardening; also, as a young man he loved playing the mandolin. However, his greatest enjoyment in life was attending church with his loving wife, Irene, his only son, Tommy and daughter-in-law, Mary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Emma Irene Romans. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Polly Romans, Lattie Romans (Augusta), Artie Romans (Lilly Mae), Maudie Maynard (Warren G.), Mary Adkins (Leslie) and Billie Sue Kissinger Lionti (George, Phil). He is survived by his son, Tommy Lee Romans and daughter-in- law Mary Romans of Huntington, W.Va. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ella Williamson Sias (Denzil, James), of Ranger, W.Va., and Marie and Edward Belville of South Point, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A very special thanks to the St. Mary’s Hospital staff and the Hospice staff who gave Dad such wonderful care; also, for the loving daughter-in-law Mary who was by his side providing comfort and care for him night and day. Also, a special thanks to his doctor, Ronald Brownfield, whom Dad greatly loved who cared for Dad for so many years. Dad, you are gone now from my presence but you are in the Lord’s. You are gone from my arms of embrace but it’s only for a little while. You are with Mom and precious loved ones where you so longed to be. I can still see my handsome 92-year-old Dad with a beautiful spirit, a loving heart, all dressed in his Sunday morning church clothes. Church and being with God’s people was Daddy’s life. I would stop on my way to church to help him put his hearing aid in. As I got ready to leave, he would reach up and pull me down and kiss me on the cheek and say, “I love you more than I could ever tell you. I’m ready to go. I want to go home and be with Jesus and your Mom.” When Daddy hugged me, the fragrance of his aftershave would linger on my face for hours. When I left his house, I carried it everywhere I went. It was a reminder that I had been with Daddy, that I had been in his arms. But Dad, the fragrance of a Christian spirit and what you left me spiritually will last forever. Your teachings, your love and care will forever be in my heart. They will never depart but I will cher- ish them until the day I leave this world and join you again. I can still see my Dad as I would pull in his driveway. I would tell him I was coming and he would be watching for me. I can still see that little hand pulling back the curtain and holding it open. I would see his face looking my way through the window as he waited for me. A smile would come across his face and he would make his way to the door, push it open and welcome me in with a hug and such a love that I felt deep in the heart. Daddy, you’ve finished your course now! You truly loved your family so good! Your labors are through, earth’s toils have ended. All your many good deeds are complete. Well done, Daddy! You left me a heritage that I will proudly carry on until I meet you again. One thing I ask. Will you be watching for me from Heaven’s window and waiting at the gate? I’m coming Dad! Tell Mom and the rest of my loved ones I’m coming! I love you dearly, your one and only son, Tommy. SURVIVAL TACTICS “Grief work” refers to the process that a mourner undergoes before he or she can come to grips with the death of a loved one. It includes separating from the person who died, readjusting to the world without that person, and forming new relationships. To separate from the person who died, a mourner must find another way to redirect the emotional energy previously given to the loved one. is does not mean the person was not loved or should be forgotten, but that the mourner needs to turn to others for emotional satisfaction. e mourner’s roles, identity, and skills may require adjustment to living in a world without an essential relationship and reinvesting emotional energy once reserved for the deceased. 346014 Something To Think About MORRIS FUNERAL HOME 1345 Rt. 152, Wayne, WV 304-272-5171 www.morrisfuneralhome.com D.C. SURVIVAL TACTICS“Grief work” refers to the process that a mourner undergoes before he orshe can come to grips with the death of a loved one. It includes separatingfrom the person who died, readjusting to the world without that person, andforming new relationships. To separate from the person who died, a mournermust find another way to redirect the emotional energy previously givento the loved one. This does not mean the person was not loved or shouldbe forgotten, but that the mourner needs to turn to others for emotionalsatisfaction. The mourner’s roles, identity, and skills may require adjustmentto living in a world without an essential relationship and reinvestingemotional energy once reserved for the deceased.
