Positive Behaviour

for Learning (PBL) Congratulations to all the students who have been receiving PBL tokens over this term. It has been fantastic to see so many students displaying the behaviour and attitudes that are expected of them. Thank you also to all the teachers for acknowledging those behaviours that we want to see in our students. It really makes a difference! PBL lesson Weeks 9 and 10: Show Pride

This fortnight’s focus is on Showing Pride. What does it mean to Show Pride? Students will participate in lessons that teach the following.

Learning Intention: Students will learn what showing pride looks like, sounds like and feels like.

Success Criteria:

I can describe what showing pride sounds like I can describe what showing pride feels like I can describe what showing pride looks like I can describe what isn’t showing pride I can give examples of showing pride

Students will understand that to show pride means to take the time to produce work they are proud of. They will also understand that to take pride in one’s appearance means to ensure that they wear school uniform and come to school clean and tidy. Students will also recognise that we show pride in our school when we keep our grounds clean and tidy.

Use this matrix below at home to reinforce the expectation ‘Show Pride’.

Hi everyone. As the end of Term 3 approaches, let’s see what has happened recently and look to interesting things in Term 4!

Free English classes for parents/carers In Term 3 conversational English classes are being held on Thursdays in the C4K room. Salvation Army volunteer English tutors run these classes and we encourage parents to attend - toddlers are welcome. This course will give parents and carers the skills and confidence to speak English in our school and in the community. You can practise speaking English with help!!

FIVE CLASS COURSE! Remaining class 21/9/17 Arrive: 9:00am – 9:15am Tea/coffee | Classes: 9:15am – 10:30am (including free Morning Tea)

Our last class will include a celebration for the end-of-Term. Please bring a plate of food from your culture on Thursday 21/9/17, so all parents and the English tutors can share. A big thank you to Alice and Caitlin from Macquarie University, for volunteering to help our parents and carers learn English! Our collaboration with the Salvation Army and its volunteers has been hugely beneficial to our parents! Here are some pictures from last week’s class.

Coffee and Chat | Wednesdays | C4K Room | 9:15am Coffee and Chat provides an opportunity for parents to discuss their concerns, attend interesting programs, workshops and activities and to hear about important news affecting our school.

On Wednesday 6/9/17 Mrs Macmillan and parents discussed the new school uniform and met Sandra from School Locker, the supplier of our new school uniforms. Thank you parents for your opinions and suggestions. It was a great session and parents were very positive about the changes coming!

Also on 6/9/17 parents and carers had their first session of PaTCH with Mrs Kotevski and Cameron.

This program equips parents to help students and teachers in the classroom, equipping them with skills to volunteer effectively and young students with reading and numeracy.

The last session this Term was on 13/9/17 and Mrs Cranney also attended to assist parents in their learning of new skills. Pictures from PaTCH below.

Coffee and Chat on 13/9/17 was an opportunity for parents to make suggestions regarding the activities and administration of Multicultural Day next Term. Mrs Cranney, Mrs Jeromin and Mr Cameron discussed many ideas with parents and we are grateful for your brilliant suggestions. We will discuss more about Multicultural Day at Coffee and Chat in Week 2 Term 4 (18/10/17).

Year 3 and 4 percussion class Students are performing well in the course. They are reading and playing complex patterns on many different percussion instruments. Next Term we hope to perform on Multicultural Day and at Presentation Day. All students are developing team work, abstract thinking skills, a positive attitude and a high degree of discipline. Their behaviour is good and their interest in learning is high. Their skills and musicianship are growing day by day.

Parents and carers! Watch our newsletter, website and fliers for information on what is happening in our school community and in the C4K “Community” Room. You are also welcome to contact me on 9602 8260 to have a chat about your concerns, suggestions and for information about our school and local services. I will be available at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is our last newsletter for Term 3, so enjoy your holiday break and we look forward to your continued involvement in our school. Cameron Outterside | Community Liaison Officer (CLO)

LITTLE STEPS The Little Steps program is an early learning program that is open to parents and children between the ages of 3 ½ and 5 years. Children take their ‘first learning steps’ by joining in fun and exciting activities which contribute to a positive and successful learning start before they enter school. The activities include singing, dancing, reading, counting, craft and social and language games. If you would like to place your child’s name on our list, please pick up registration form from the office. Miss Ferrari

BREAKFAST

CLUB Open each morning from 8:30am in the C4K Room. SCHOOL BANKING School Banking takes place each Wednesday. Students bank books are collected from their classrooms, and returned to their teachers for return to students. If you would like to open an account for your child please speak with School Banking Co-ordinators any Wednesday in the C4K Room.

CRUNCH N SIP The Crunch N Sip program is a highly successful initiative to encourage the children to improve their daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and to drink plenty of water. You can support this initiative by making sure that your child has their “Fruit Break“ snack every day and an extra bottle of water to have available in the classroom.

NO HAT- PLAY IN THE SHADE Does your child remember to bring their hat to school every day? Families are reminded that children need to have a hat to play in the playground with their friends. Children who do not have a hat are required to play quietly under the shelter. HOMEWORK HELP Once again there is a wonderful opportunity for all students at Warwick Farm Public School to attend a weekly Homework Club at the Neighbourhood Centre. Children can get help with their homework sheets each Monday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Parents must attend to complete a registration form. Further information is available on 9600 0600. LIVERPOOL NEIGHBOURHOOD CONNECTIONS- SCHOOL CANTEEN A variety of freshly made healthy snacks are made daily and available at recess and lunch. Watch the blackboard for fresh homemade soups and meals that may vary daily depending on season. Canteen lunch orders need to be placed by 9:00am.
