THE WARBURG BUGLE, WWW.COMMUNITY39.COM, 780-887-0077, JUNE 26, 2020 EDITION #273 The Warburg Bugle Local Musicians Release Rock Album From Ben Tobiasson On May 11, 2020, my brother Clint and I re- leased our first “rock” album and it’s based on the music we used to play in the ‘70s. Clint and I have been working on this for a few years and had to dust off some old recordings to help us ‘remember’ how some of it went. We released it under the Tunecore Label and it’s all over the world now. We are proud to say it was recorded entirely in the Warburg area. The new album is entitled “Fresh Tracks To- biasson Brothers”. Many may remember Clint and I playing sock- hops in the gym in Warburg School. In later years Clint and I (hiring and rehearsing a drum- mer) played all over Western Canada with our band “Equinox”. We were mostly a smaller venue band.....the biggest bar we played was The St. Albert Inn before the bar was all chopped into pieces....would have seated about 500 people then. We BARELY had enough amplification on stage to play there. We have played some bigger venues (not a lot of them): Winstock 2016; Winstock 2019 and the reopening of the Sunnybrook Hall. Both the Winstock shows did have some amateur video done and we had some of them professionally produced.....unfortunately too late to replace the audio recording that we had released al- ready. Our new album can be heard very easily on YouTube. Just search “Tobiasson Brothers” and find Fresh Tracks......play all. There are 12 tracks on the album and all of them Clint and I wrote and have performed live. This 70’s rock album and the recording are available on all major retailers: iTunes, amazon, etc.. Editor’s Note: (Ben has won two ARIA (Alberta Record- ing Industry Association) awards for previous classical releases. The awards he’s won include “Best Clas- sical Artist on Record” and “Best Classical Artist of the Year”....both from ARIA. You can check out the website for more info at www.bentobiasson.com

Local Musicians Release Rock Album

From Ben Tobiasson

On May 11, 2020, my brother Clint and I re-leased our first “rock” album and it’s based on the music we used to play in the ‘70s.

Clint and I have been working on this for a few years and had to dust off some old recordings to help us ‘remember’ how some of it went.

We released it under the Tunecore Label and it’s all over the world now. We are proud to say it was recorded entirely in the Warburg area. The new album is entitled “Fresh Tracks To-biasson Brothers”.

Many may remember Clint and I playing sock-hops in the gym in Warburg School. In later years Clint and I (hiring and rehearsing a drum-mer) played all over Western Canada with our band “Equinox”. Both the Winstock shows did have some amateur video

done and we had some of them professionally produced.....unfortunately too late to replace the audio recording that we had released al-ready.

Editor’s Note: (Ben has won two ARIA (Alberta Record-ing Industry Association) awards for previous classical releases. The awards he’s won include “Best Clas-sical Artist on Record” and “Best Classical Artist of the Year”....both from ARIA. You can check out the website for more info at www.bentobiasson.com

DARREN ARNOLD HYLANDSeptember 22, 1949 ~ May 30, 2020

On Saturday, May 30, 2020, Darren Hyland passed away quietly at the

University of Alberta Hospital.

Darren was born in Edmonton, AB. He spent his childhood and teen years in the Village of Warburg, surrounded by extended family. As a young boy at

school, he loved participating in sports with baseball being one of his favourites. After graduating from Warburg High School, Darren attended NAIT and apprenticed as an electrician. As a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers,

Local 424, he worked in and explored different locations around Alberta, making the long trip up to Fort

McMurray for a number of years. After retirement, Darren took time to enjoy the outdoors

and loved a good campfire.

Darren is survived by his son Bradley Hyland, grandson Talan, granddaughter Ella, his sister Arlene Pankewicz, nephew Trent (Jodi) Pankewicz, niece Pamela (Dennis) Kellner, great-nephews Kord, Reid and Bryn Pankewicz, Hart and Pierce Kellner, and great-niece Trevyn Kellner.

A special thank you to the staff and residents of Cloverleaf Manor in Warburg for their care and

friendship. A heartfelt thank you to Darren’s long-time friends, Harold and Ginny Burgess, whose love and companionship is so greatly appreciated.

Cremation has taken place as per Darren’s wishes. A private interment will take place at Union Cemetery outside of Warburg.

With summer fast approaching, and sunny weather with it, our outdoors and food op-tions continue to grow. As the weather im-proves and certain lockdowns ease, I know many of us are thinking about how to get outside and expand our personal bubbles bit by bit. For those preferring to remain at home, there’s nothing like a barbecue to make it feel like summer. Shop Warburg Vil-lage Market for some great options when you crave an outdoor barbeque or the fresh taste of summer. We have burgers and smokies and hot dogs for the grill. Yummy! Feeling adventurous? Try veggies! We have fresh corn (excellent quality) peppers, mushrooms, or onions! Finish up with fresh fruit or s’mores for dessert. We have it all. What is clear is that we all have our own sense of the space we need to feel com-fortable. As we move forward, we will con-tinue to scale our activities based on the local status of the pandemic and the ad-vice of public health authorities. Our goal is to keep everyone safe while maintaining our valuable service. Things may change as time goes on, or if we discover better ways of operating! We appreciate your pa-tience and understanding during this transi-tion time! Please stay calm and wash your hands. As we work through the next phases of the pandemic, I will remain in touch to update you on anything new we’re doing in our business and in our store. Your safety and the wellbeing of our workers remain our top priority. Our commitment as business owners to find new and innovative ways to deliver service, and on our willingness to stand together and put others’ wellbeing first, I’m confident that we can tackle what-ever comes next. It’s who we are. It’s how we roll.

Strawberry Hall VandalismFrom Cindy Miller

The Strawberry Hall Board is very sad to say to the community we have been the victim of VANDALISM!

It came to our attention on June14/2020 that someone decide to visit our hall grounds the previous evening and chose to drive all over the infield of our ball diamond, rutting it up and in the process crash into the back -stop fence resulting in broken fence, gate, and bent posts. June 13/2020 a evening that we the commun-ity should have been celebrating Farmers’ Day with our annual Steak Bar-B-Que and social evening but as like many things this year, we the Hall Board of Strawberry Community Hall made the decision to cancel our celebration.

The community and Hall Board volunteers worked many hours to have this great feature added- the backstop and fence installed at the hall a few years ago, along with many loads of sand on the infield to provide a safe and fun environment for the community and public to play ball at our hall.

Strawberry Hall like all community halls are suffering due to Covid-19 restrictions, there-fore all our summer rentals to this point which are our main source of income have been can-celed. These rentals help cover the cost such as gas, electricity, insurance and upkeep.

Now this VANDALISM is an added expense and hours of volunteer time that we will have to put into the repair of damage done.

We, the Hall Board want to continue to have Strawberry Hall as a place where families can enjoy the hall and grounds.

We ask that anyone that has any information

about vehicles’ and people at the hall grounds June 13, 2020 please get in touch with either Thorsby RCMP or Hall President Lyle Miller - 780-789-2446.

THE WARBURG BUGLE, WWW.COMMUNITY39.COM, 780-887-0077, JUNE 26, 2020 EDITION #273

This month is a time to celebrate the history and diversity that make our province, and country, a great place to live. I take great pride in being Canadian and I wish everyone a very happy Canada Day! I hope you will get a chance to enjoy the great attributes of our province and country by getting out in the beautiful sunshine we have been blessed with recently.

After a difficult beginning of the year, our prov-ince has been gradually reopening businesses and facilities. Our province’s relaunch strategy puts the health and safety of our community first. Our province has expanded its testing capacity and contact tracing ability, and put a rapid response plan in place for possible out-breaks to ensure that our province can continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19. General workplace and industry-specific guidelines, which can be found at alberta.ca/bizconnect, are in place to protect employees and custom-ers of businesses across the province. Our wonderful local businesses are at the heart of our community, and I encourage you to shop local and show them your support!

I am happy to share that the hard work and sacrifices of Albertans has paid off, and our province was able to begin Phase 1 of the Alberta Relaunch Strategy in May. With strict guidelines in place, our community can and should confidently support Alberta businesses as our economy begins to reopen. Alberta’s re-launch strategy puts safety first as restrictions are gradually lifted. Our province is prepared to gradually allow some businesses and facili-ties to reopen, including retail, hairstylists and barber shops, and cafes and restaurants in the first stage. General workplace and industry-

specific guidelines, available at alberta.ca/biz-connect, must be implemented to keep patrons and employees safe in this stage.

This week our province launched the Human Trafficking Task Force, which will find ways to prevent human trafficking, and protect and em-power survivors. Anti-human trafficking advo-cate Paul Brandt will lead the seven-member task force that will provide guidance and rec-ommendations on how to best implement the government’s strategy to combat human traf-ficking in Alberta. This task force will also help shed a light on an often overlooked and under-reported crime that causes serious harm. The task force will provide recommendations on how to support survivors, enhance collabora-tion between organizations working on this issue, engage experts on how to bring sustain-able change, and lobby other levels of govern-ment to take coordinated action against human trafficking. Alberta should be a place where people can live free from exploitation and co-ercion. The new Human Trafficking Task Force will help shine a light on an important issue in our province and make change.

As always, it is my honour to serve as your MLA.
