Unhappy with French and British Trade:-both tried to block U.S trade with the other.

-British ships made American sailorsserve with the British Navy.

-President Thomas Jefferson EMBARGOIn 1807. (disastrous to U.S shipping)

The War Hawks:

-Land hungry southerners and westerners

-British were causing problems with Indians out west.

-Drive British from Canada

-1812 President Madison barely got Congress to declare war on Great Britain.

War Breaks Out:

-Lasted two years and proved nothing.

-1814 Washington D.C burned by British

-Battle Fort McHenry (Baltimore) StarSpangled Banner written.

-Treaty of Ghent ended war.-United Americans greatly.
