A member of the Bacardi family is listing a newly built, 12-bedroom property in Coral Gables,
Fla. for $27.26 million.
The house went on the market in 2014, before it was completed, for $18 million with another
firm, and was taken off the market after failing to sell. “A house is a hard sell when it’s not
completely finished,” said Barbara Estela of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who has the listing
with colleagues Ysha Arteaga and Hilda Jacobson. The house was completed in May after taking
about 8 years to build.
According to public records, the home is owned by Hilda Maria Bacardi, sister of Bacardi
chairman Facundo Bacardi. They are the great great grandchildren of Facundo Bacardí Massó,
who founded the liquor company in 1862. The family later fled Cuba when Fidel Castro’s
government nationalized the island’s distilleries in 1960.
Sitting on 1.3 acres in the gated community the Islands of Cocoplum, the 10-bedroom house
measures about 21,000 square feet. It has roughly 400 feet of waterfront with a swimming pool
and 100-foot private dock, according to Ms. Estela. With details like Lalique crystal faucets, the
tri-level home has an elevator, wine cellar and a catering kitchen in addition to the primary
kitchen. A two-bedroom guesthouse is accessed by a covered walkway.
Ms. Estela said the owner, who she declined to identify, planned to move in to the house but
decided to sell instead after another opportunity arose.

Furnished by Artefacto, This Florida Mansion Is a Modern Marvel By Rebekah Bell
Situated on a 1.3-acre lot in Coral Gables, Fla., Casa Costanera is a 21,042-square-foot mansion that evokes all
the charm inherent in an Italian villa. A red-tiled roof intersects with a crisp white exterior and portly
colonnades to give the modern abode a distinctly old-world design. Built in 2016, the 12-bedroom property
marries Mediterranean allure and modern amenities to create a lavish lair that lacks nothing.
Situated on 480 feet of water frontage, the property offers direct waterway access to Biscayne Bay. In the
backyard, a shimmering pool is situated near a pergola, and a 100-foot concrete dock is ready to accommodate a
sizable boat. In the front yard, a semi-circle staircase leads the way from the large motor court to the well-
manicured lawn. Lush plants and palm trees are sprinkled liberally throughout the yard, providing a picturesque
contrast to the home’s white façade. Rounded windows and French doors abound, offering views of the region’s
lush vegetation and waterways.
The master suite features sleek white furniture, a gas fireplace with a curved limestone mantel, and a walk-in
closet. The formal dining room is outfitted with a fireplace and a long table that can easily seat a crowd. The
kitchen showcases Honduran mahogany cabinets, imported limestone countertops, and Miele and Sub-Zero
appliances. With three ovens, two microwaves, and two dishwashers, the kitchen was designed for anyone with
a penchant for entertaining. A three-car garage and two-bedroom guesthouse are also located on the grounds. A
wine cellar, elevator, butler’s kitchen, and staff quarters further ensure that there is something for everyone.
The luxe home is being sold fully furnished. Renowned design showroom Artefacto chose the furniture and
accessories and oversaw the design process from start to finish. “Our style is characterized as a warm approach
to contemporary design that embraces the home’s rich cultural architecture and finishes,” says Paulo Bacchi,
CEO of Artefacto. “We used sofas with lightweight upholstery, marbled side tables and bespoke chairs of
varied textures and shapes that form relaxing centerpieces.” Statement pieces such as a black-and-gold bureau
in the master suite and side tables made from marble and wood give the interiors an ultramodern, sleek feel.
The home is currently owned by Hilda Maria Bacardi, the great-great-granddaughter of the man who started the
eponymous spirits company. Listed for around $27 million, the home provides a taste of European glamor not
far from downtown Miami. (elliman.com)

Nesting with the stars
A-listers of every ilk are swooping in on ripe South Florida digs, while others can’t ditch
their corners of paradise fast enough By Katherine Kallergis
Recently, celebrities have picked up a pricey batch of homes, from sprawling waterfront mansions to
preconstruction condos. Yet some A-listers are struggling to unload their trophy properties. Hip-hop star Lil
Wayne, for example, has slashed the asking price for his Miami Beach house by a third, to $12 million.
Meanwhile, Internet pioneer Jim Clark put his estate on the market for $137 million, making it one of the 10
most expensive home listings in the country.
The seller of one Coral Gables estate has a last name that’s certainly a household word: Bacardi. After spending
eight years building the luxurious Cocoplum estate, Hilda Maria Bacardi, an heiress to the booze fortune, has
listed her mansion for $27.3 million.
Social media buzz has hit celebrity deals big time. Singer-songwriter Trey Songz and boxing champ Floyd
Mayweather Jr. were both happy to have their South Florida home purchases promoted on Instagram. Here’s a
peak inside some swank celeb deals.
Hilda Maria Bacardi
The great-great-granddaughter of Bacardi founder Facundo Bacardí Massó wants to sell her newly finished
waterfront estate for $27.3 million. Hilda Maria Bacardi (pictured here with fiancé William Scott Alger) first
put her 12-bedroom mansion on the market for $18 million while it was still under construction — but now that
it’s been completed, she’s hiked the price. Located at 300 Costanera Road in Coral Gables’ Cocoplum
neighborhood, the 1.3-acre spread includes a 100-foot dock, 400 feet of waterfront, a swimming pool, a wine
cellar and a catering kitchen, as well as a two-bedroom guesthouse. After an eight-year build, the 21,000-
square-foot mansion is listed by Douglas Elliman’s Barbara Estela, Ysha Arteaga and Hilda Jacobson.

Hilda Maria Bacardi, the sister of Facundo Bacardi, chairman of the largest privately held,
family-owned spirits company in the world, is asking $27.26 million for a 12-bedroom, 13-bath
mansion in Coral Gables, Florida, the pricey Miami suburb where the University of Miami is
located.
Hilda Maria and Facundo are the great great grandchildren of the Bacardi Rum distillery’s
founder, Facundo Bacardí Massó, who started the company in 1862. In 1960, after the
nationalization of Cuba’s distilleries under Fidel Castro, the family fled to America, settling in
Miami, where their architectural patronage became famous after the construction of Midtown’s
Bacardi Building, designed by Cuban architect Enrique Gutierrez in 1963 and now held up as a
prime example of the Tropical Modern style.
The Coral Gables house is a bit more Miami conventional, however, taking its cues from the
area’s rich Spanish Revival tradition with terra cotta roofs and overhangs, arched loggias and
columned pergolas and a paver drive leading to a pair of multi-car garages. The 1.3-acre plot
includes over 480 feet of water frontage with a 100-foot private dock as well as a swimming
pool, and the 10-bedroom main house includes a wine cellar, three separate kitchens, an elevator
serving all three floors and Lalique crystal faucets in the bathrooms. All in all, the house has
about 21,000 square feet of interior space.
A two-bedroom guesthouse is connected to the main home by a covered walkway, and a pair of
converging staircases lead from the house to the tree-lined lawn. Nestled into the exclusive
Cocoplum community, the mansion, at 300 Costanero Road, is the second most expensive
property in Coral Gables, behind 1 Casuarina Concourse, listed at $39 million.

The great, great granddaughter of Bacardi founder Facundo Bacardí Massó has listed her newly
completed waterfront Cocoplum estate for $27.26 million.
Hilda Maria Bacardi first put the 12-bedroom estate on the market while it was under
construction. Luisa Mendoza of Esslinger Wooten Maxwell had the property on the market for
$18 million at the time.
Now that it’s completed, the 21,000-square-foot, three-story mansion is being listed by Douglas
Elliman’s Barbara Estela, Ysha Arteaga and Hilda Jacobson after taking about eight years to
build, according to the Wall Street Journal. Estela told the newspaper that the owner is listing the
Coral Gables property because “another opportunity arose.”
The 1.3-acre estate, at 300 Costanera Road, includes a 100-foot dock, 400 feet of waterfront, a
swimming pool, wine cellar and catering kitchen, as well as a two-bedroom guesthouse.
Records show Bacardi bought the property in 2002, but it’s unclear how much she paid. It was
completed in May.

home, a 3.6-acre property on the market for $49 million. [WSJ] – Katherine Kallergis
