EGF Intergovernmental Retreat Set For Feb. 22 The Chamber is hosting its annual intergovernmental retreat on Friday, February 22nd at the Boardwalk Bar and Grill in East Grand Forks from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Representatives from Polk County, the City of East Grand Forks, the EGF School District, EGF EDHA, NCTC and The Chamber will all give reports. Minnesota State Senator Le-Roy Stumpf, Representative Debra Kiel and the Minne-sota Congressional Delega-tion have also been invited to participate. Each group will talk about the challenges and opportunities their respective groups are facing.

The sessions are open to all Chamber Members. Please let us know if you are planning to attend. Contact the Cham-ber office at 701-772-7271 or [email protected].

EGF Business of the Week Program Off To a Great Start The weekly Chamber feature highlighting an East Grand Forks business in the Exponent is off to a great start.

The featured business program stared in January and each week one EGF Chamber member is featured in a quarter page ad sponsored by The Chamber and Northland College. The program will run for approximately 2 years until each of the more than 100 chamber members from East Grand Forks are featured.

Legislative Forums Underway The first of three legislative forums, hosted by The Cham-ber’s Government Affairs

Committee, featuring legisla-tors from Grand Forks was held recently at GF City Hall in Council Chambers.

Legislators provide a brief overview of what is going on at the capitol and then ques-tions are taken from the audi-ence.

The next two forums are scheduled for February 16th and March 23rd and are open to the public.

What’s Your Role in NV360?The results of the recently completed community vision-ing project were distributed in the GF Herald in an 8 page tab on January 18th and at the Chamber’s annual meeting the night before.

Take a few minutes to identify where your business, organi-zation or you personally will be involved to help make GF/EGF an even better place to live. See all of the results at the following link: NV360 PHASE 1 RESULTS

The Chamber’s BGEA Commit-tee will also monitor progress and serve as a catalyst to be sure most of the visioning plan issues are discussed and given some consideration for imple-mentation over the next sev-eral years.

Chamber Board Discusses NV360 PrioritiesThe Chamber Board discussed taking a leadership role or supportive role in a variety of the NV360 visioning ideas at their January meeting.

ment experience in the retail industry and is active in the community by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

True North Equipment Plans Build on 42nd St. True North Equipment, the Grafton based full service John Deere dealership that operates four locations in North Dakota and Minnesota, is pleased to announce plans for the con-struction of its newest facil-ity, the True North Equipment Resource Center.

“As a continuing part of our ongo-ing Smart Growth initiatives, we have uncovered the need for a central location to better serve our True North team

and our customers,” said John Oncken, True North Equipment Vice President.

The new True North Equip-ment Resource Center will

be a 7,000 square foot, two -story building located on South 42nd Street near the Alerus Center. The approxi-mate construction start date is March 2013 with estimated finalization in late Fall 2013.

The company expects to add an additional 10 to 15 em-ployees within two years. The new True North Equipment Resource Center will focus on providing value added services to customers and employees.

“This new facil-ity focus is that of a ‘learning center’ with a design dedicated to employee and customer train-ing, meetings, and more,” said

Dan Gorder, True North Equip-ment President.

The new True North Equip-ment Resource Center will offer:

*Additional space and technol-ogy for advanced employee training, such as John Deere (IDT) distance learning.

*Space and technology for advanced customer train-ing, such as Precision Ag and Equipment optimization for producers and operators alike.

*Central office space where our corporate staff can best support the efforts of every True North Equipment dealer-ship location.

*Space for Ag related busi-nesses and True North Equip-ment customers to hold meet-ings and events

True North Equipment cur-rently has 120 employees throughout their locations in Grafton, Grand Forks, Ken-nedy, and Northwood. The new True North Equipment Resource Center has been designed for expansion as the company continues its smart growth plan over the years to come.

“Due to our stronger market

presence locally and nation-ally, we reached a level where we needed to be seen as one company in four communi-ties and lead from one cohe-sive, central place. This new Resource Center helps us do that,” said Gorder.

From its humble beginnings as a small company that sold John Deere plows in Grafton in the late 1800s, True North Equipment has seen many expansions and diversifications over that last century. True North Equipment’s dedication and planning has paid off, as now the company is in the top 10% of John Deere dealers worldwide.

“We are excited about the new value added services we can offer our customers and em-ployees with this new facility,” said Oncken. “It is a step in a very progressive direction not only for our company, but for agriculture in our region.”

stad Arena and the Olympic Arena when the ice is out. Each Arena will utilize dividers to create three “cross-ice” ball hockey rinks.

available to many great destinations like: Boise, Dallas (DFW), Houston, Los Angeles (LAX), Orange County, CA, Portland, Or., Reno, NV, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and many more. As record boarding’s continue to rise at GFK, the Airport Authority and United Airlines strive for greater numbers for the Denver route. When the service started, passenger loads were averaging approximately 40% capacity. Over the last two months, that has improved to better than 56% and pre-booking data are showing even more improvement. Our goal is to reach 75-85% load factors.

Community support of the new service and existing service is crucial to the long-term success of the routes along with the future growth of our airport. It is important the public realizes there are options for air service right here in Grand Forks, without traveling to other communities. It takes time and a fly local commitment to get the type of air service other communities may already have, however, that same commitment can work to continue to build those services right here in Grand Forks.

Over 30 million Americans work at home at least occa-sionally, a number that is expected to be over 60 million by 2016. There are a number of reasons for this growth with technology at the forefront giving us wireless Inter-

net, instant messaging, web conferencing, and collabora-tion software allowing work to be done from anywhere. Remote working eliminates long-commutes and allows workers to more effectively handle unique family situa-tions. Businesses also benefit

from being able to expand their pool of job candidates, hiring workers who would be willing to make long com-mutes a few times each year and live in their community of choice. There is also the savings of overhead – if a company employs 75 workers but has 40 of them working remotely, this can represent a significant costs savings for space and equipment.
