SSUMMARUMMARYY

SUMMARY : CHAPTER 6 • Enraged and frustrated by his own helplessness he decides to

leave his home for Bombay. He joins a group of protesting farmers and fishermen led by Adarkar on a boat.

• When Hari reached Rewas, dawn was breaking. He noticed that the bus already left so he got a lift from a bullock cart.

• Upon reaching, Hari rushed on to the boats. All the boats were loaded and they were on their way. It was 14 km from Rewas to Bombay.

• There Hari met Sayyid Ali, a man who spoke on behalf of the villagers.

• Back at home Lila, Kamal and Bela were taking turns to look after their mother. Their mothers fever was getting worse and they went out to get some ice. Lila went to find a doctor.

SUMMARY : CHAPTER 7• Hari was getting scared because he had no one with

him. • He remembered the address given by the De Silva.

So, he decided to meet them. • Unfortunately, the family wasn’t there. • Hira Lal, a watchman for seabird for 12 years, help

Hari. • Hira Lal’s friend Jagu ran a cheap restaurant. So, he

took him there where he can have a cheap meal and place to sleep.

Kind• Help Hari by introducing him to his friend, Jagu.

JAGU• Hardly dressed at all and had nothing on but a dirty lungi

wrapped around his waist, while his chest and back were bare and sweating.

• They took boat to go to Bombay.• No one paid attention to Hari in the boat until

• They went to give their petition to the Chief Minister.

• They gathered and some of the men gave their speech before five of the farmers went to Mantralaya with the petition.

Bombay

• A fishing village.• In a little hut of Lila and her family stays in

Thul, she took care of her mother.• The place where Lila buried Pinto (in a shallow

ditch behind the frangipani tree).

Thul

• The villagers that go to Bombay consist of farmers and fishermen.

• They are not used to the life in the city of Bombay.– They amazed to see women marching in Bombay.– They not used to the busy people and the surrounding.– They did not crossed the street properly.

• Poor people.– Bella and Kamal found just a few coin to buy ice for their

mother.

Villagers Society

SOCIAL SETTINGS

• Rude people.– The policeman and the driver bus insulted the

villagers.

• Busy people.– the people always in a great hurry to get

something done.

Bombay Society

• Concerned– Some of them are concerned about the

construction of the factory.– They concerned about the pollution that will going

• Hari run away from his village to work at Bombay.• He thinks he might change his life.
