MUSIC IN PARIS…

I shared a fraction of my sister’s three months holiday overseas with Committee members recently and received an interesting reply from John Scott.

Marion Dewar

Hi Marion I'm in St Sulpice (2nd biggest church in Paris) listening to the organ recital after 11 am mass. It's a very famous organ - see W ik ipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Saint -Sulpice,_Paris Today the head organist, Daniel Roth, played for 10:45 prelude and for mass: Prelude et fugue en Sol mineur BWV 535 J.S. Bach Offertory: Andante con moto Sonata No 5 Mendelssohn Communion: Meditation M. Durufle And now for the recital, Leo Abbott, director of music, Holy Cross Cathedral, Boston, is playing: Allegro Symphonies II L. Vierne Ave Maria - Ave Maris Stella J. Langlais Ut Re Mi... Fantaisie sur l'hymne a St Jean Baptiste (1st performance in France) D. Roth 12.26 pm. Recital just finished, good applause, organist bowed from organ loft, hard to tell in such a big space, but maybe 100-200 people here - at least twice that for mass.

Love from Heather

Hello Marion, Yes, totally envious of your sister! Back in 1990 I organised Michael Dudman to present a recital on the small pipe organ in St John's Anglican Wodonga. He stayed the weekend at my place and in discussions he mentioned St Sulpice as one of his favourite places - and organs! It has ever since been on my 'to do' list! Thanks for sharing your sister's visit with us. What a marvellous experience!

Regards John Scott

2014 RSCM VICTORIA MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL OF CHURCH MUSIC

The 2014 RSCM Victoria Multicultural Festival of Church Music was again a colourful affair with choir members

dressed in national costume. Following morning rehearsals, it was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, on the

afternoon of Saturday 9 August. The Reverend Canon Robert Vun opened the Festival with prayer and acted as

Master of Ceremonies. Fay Magee led the choirs and congregation in learning some African worship chants.

Each choir took it in turns to sing prepared hymns and sacred songs. There was a variety of instrumental

accompaniment. Chairperson Roslyn Carolane congratulated the choirs on their singing, noting the new groups

for 2014 and the return of groups that had previously taken part. A Program outline was available to all who

attended. Sponsorship was obtained from St Paul’s Cathedral and the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

Committee members assisted with choir movement and acted as ushers. The groups that took part this year

included

SOUTH SUDANESE GROUP (SUNSHINE)

KAREN CHOIR (ST THOMAS WERRIBEE)

TONGAN CHOIR (FOOTSCRAY)

PAKASTANI AUSTRALIAN CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP (HOPPERS CROSSING)
