PLACES TO EAT

THINGS TO DO

Caruso’s (onsite restaurant) Caruso’s is a welcoming, relaxing place for morning coffee, an afternoon snack or a quick bite in the evening. Guests can select from a diverse menu featuring specialty coffee drinks, homemade pastries, wines by the glass, Panini sandwiches, salads and a full bar. After a long day of important meetings or sightseeing in San Francisco, it’s a revitalizing spot for relaxing and unwinding. The Oak Room Restaurant (onsite restaurant) The Oak Room Restaurant has a long and glorious history. This beautiful, wood-paneled room opened with great fanfare in 1913 as the Men’s Bar, and quickly became the meeting place for men to smoke cigars and pipes while drinking and playing dice on the bar.

Colibri Mexican Bistro (3 minute walk from hotel) Upscale Mexican cuisine and specialty margaritas offered in a warm, traditional atmosphere. Hops & Hominy (6 minute walk from hotel) Rustic yet chic restaurant serving coastal Southern food like fried oysters and American microbrews. Jeanne D’arc (5 minute drive from hotel) Classic French fare served in a charming, romantic venue in the basement of the Hotel Cornell. Replete with tapestries, stained glass and artifacts, the decor celebrates the life and deeds of France’s legendary heroine, Joan of Arc. E & O Kitchen and Bar (5 minute drive from hotel) Celebrating its 20th year, this huge restaurant is one of the few remaining places that first heralded the fusion trend. The food touches on China, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea and other Asian outposts and is a prime stop for a midafternoon repast, as it’s open continuously for lunch and dinner.

Golden Gate Bridge This magnificent span, perhaps San Francisco’s most famous landmark, opened in 1937 after a four-year struggle against relentless winds, fog, rock and treacherous tides. Stretching 4,200 feet and towering as high as a 65-story building, this well-known bridge is the gateway to San Francisco. Alcatraz Park rangers conduct tours by recounting the prison’s thrilling history along with intriguing anecdotes about Al Capone and other legendary figures that made a “home” here. Fisherman’s Wharf Fisherman’s Wharf, on the northern waterfront, is one of the city’s busiest tourist areas. Souvenir shops and stalls selling crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls appear at every turn, as do postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz. There’s also a colony of sea lions to see and historic ships to tour. At Ghirardelli Square, boutiques and eateries reside in the famed former chocolate factory.

Baker Beach While San Francisco isn’t known for being a beach town, the city’s Baker Beach is often considered one of the best in California. Located in the northwestern area of San Francisco in the Presidio, Baker Beach is primarily known for its sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the neighboring Marin Headlands. The mile-long beach offers travelers plenty of room to spread their legs and features picnic areas and access to nearby Presidio trails. Travelers flock here to snap photos of the bridge.
