4 Self-Care Tips for Busy People in the New Year

New year, new me. Scratch that. NEW YEAR, NEW SELF-CARE ROUTINE.

The act of self-care is important for building a healthy mind, body and heart. It is important for busy people to prioritise and schedule in time for self-care. When you’ve taken the steps to care for yourself, you are building resilience towards stressors in life.

Self-care is:• Replenishing your energy levels• A sense of peace and happiness• Mental rest

Self-care is not:• Selfish• A chance to get distracted• Complicated

Now, for busy people like us, self-care can be challenging but not impossible. You don’t need to meditate twice a day or have a 2-hour bath each night, simply doing small things every day can make you feel amazing in the long-run.

You will be better equipped to tackle anything this year throws at you and feel rejuvenated.

Here are 4 simple self-care tips you can implement into your life NOW.

1. Make small accomplishments in your daily morning routineFor most people, mornings are a challenge and a half! You need to wake up…then get up, eat a nourishing breakfast, get dressed, pack your bag, and leave on time.

For especially busy people, we also tend to check our emails in the morning and are sleep deprived, making everything harder.

During this chaotic time, it is vital to complete a small yet satisfying task for yourself as it will set you up for a strong day. Make your bed, stretch for 5 minutes or have your cup of coffee/tea and just be present.

Do something that inspires you and centres you for the day. Accomplishing a self-care task before you even step into the office is a big win for yourself.

2. Fresh air and movementRaise your hand if you’ve ever eaten lunch at your desk. Guilty. As. Charged. It can be stressful to take a proper lunch break when your workload increases, or you have deadlines looming. However, it is important to move around when you can and to let your mind and eyes rest.

A sedentary lifestyle may lead to low energy levels, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, weight gain, back and spinal injuries, and more. Reports suggest that we should sit on average 2 hours per day but as business professionals we know that it’s just not possible sometimes.

Therefore, it’s vital to try and get some fresh air, go to the gym, take the stairs instead, and move around the office.

It is difficult but it is a process towards taking care of YOU. Keep your body moving and let your mind take a break!

3. Genuinely engage with friends, family and workmatesA simple engaging conversation with your friend, family member or workmate can help take your mind off things and enjoy in non-work related matters. Having that support and giving support back can boost your mood instantly.

Take some time out at work to give your friend a call

or meet up with them during lunch. Alternatively, engage in some fun activities at the office. They will 100% relieve some stress and are a good opportunity to connect with your colleagues.

Pop up a riddle on the whiteboard or play guess the movie. It’s something light-hearted that will involve your whole team. Just don’t get too distracted and start contemplating on what the answer is for 20 minutes!

4. Take deep breaths in and deep breaths outA third of corporate Australians are feeling stressed, depressed, and anxious, according to Australia’s Biggest Mental Health Check-In. With more pressure on today’s workers than ever, self-care is crucial.

Something quick and easy you can do is to practice breathing. Do it at your desk, in the lift, during your

commute to work or literally anywhere. Yogi’s and meditators swear by it and they seem like VERY relaxed people.

Simply being focused on your breath and relaxing the muscles in your face, jaw, shoulders and stomach will do wonders. There are so many breathing exercises to do, find one that you enjoy!

Take this new year as an opportunity to improve your health and wellbeing. Caring for others is just as important as caring for yourself so make the time to do it and stick to it. Treat ‘me-time’ like an appointment if that means you’ll get it done.

Most importantly, don’t be too hard on yourself. If you stress about not caring for yourself, then that defeats the whole point! Enjoy 2020 and take care.

A Victory ChristmasFor Christmas last year, Victory Offices chose to ditch Kris Kringle and instead donate to The Smith Family.

Thousands of Australian children living in financial disadvantage go without receiving a gift on Christmas Day. We wanted to help change that and make a difference in children’s lives during the holiday season.

The Smith Family’s Toy & Book Appeal was a good opportunity to spread cheer and to bring smiles to very deserving children. Each member of the Victory

Offices team participated and enjoyed picking out a gift to give.

This incredible initiative brings smiles to children all around the country and it brought some Christmas magic to the Victory Office.

If you are interested in creating a better future for young Australians, whether it be by donating, fundraising or sponsoring, get involved here.

There is truly nothing more warming than the gift of giving!

Creative Review of the Month

I migrated to Australia on a boat from North Korea with my parents who always dreamed of a world where the offices would have clean floors and fast wifi. Victory Offices Box Hill is the only place where

my most ambitious dreams have been realised. I met my life partner one day when we were both wandering the spacious corridors and

ended up at the modern and peaceful pool table and I knew this was destiny. Needless to say, we’re now married with a baby who enjoys

staying up to date with the news on the numerous TVs, the free coffee, and the infinite supply of bubble tea just down the road. The occasional evacuation drills give me a warm reminder of home life

but I don’t think I want to go back.
