Industrial Engr. Dep't. Opens at U.D.

Father George J. Renneker, S.M., University of D ay ton pres ident, announced at Commencement exercises the establi hment of an Industrial Engin eering D epartment. Students will be enrofled for the four-year cour e beginning September, 1951.

Demand of industry and business, particularly in the local area have been used as a basis for determining the new curriculum and course of study.

This new department will tend also to furni sh engineering students with a busine s a well as a technical background. It was brought to the attention of the administration that there is a lack of college graduates with a background similar to that of an industrial engineer. Courses in both engineering and business administra tion fi elds will be requirements in the curriculum.

Another important announcement concerned the elimination of the Bachelor of Science degree in secretarial studies at the Universi-ty of D ayton.

Student in the bu iness division desiring a ecretarial course will be offered the following alternatives:

1. A certifi cate in secretarial studies following the completion of a twoyear terminal program.

2. The degree of Bachelor of Science in Busine s Admini tration following a fo ur- year curricul um. Students who have completed the two-year terminal program can make application to enter a junior class in Business Administra tion.

3. The degree of Bachelor of Science in Education and Commercial Education will be awarded following the completion of a four-year curriculum.

Commencement exercises were held on June 9, a t the National Cash Register Auditorium.

The Mo t Rev. K arl J. Alter, Archbishop of Cincinna ti, delivered the 195 1 Commencement address.

FRONT COVER: May we present, left to right, Father George J. Renneker, S.M., president of the University of Dayton, and Father Carl Will, assi tant pastor, Holy Trinity church, Dayton. Father Renneker was celebrant a t the Baccalaureate M ass for the 1951 graduating class, June 3, at Holy Angels church . Father Will delivered the sermon at the M ass.
