Outstanding Senior Committee, The College of Engineering, The University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, 85721
Dear Committee Members,
I am writing this letter in support of Mr. Michael Lesnewski's nomination as Outstanding Senior, College of Engineering. I have known Mr. Lesnewski since he began his studies at the University of Arizona and he is, without doubt, an excellent student.
Mymany interactions with Michael have always been insightful. He carries a heavy academic load in addition to being a valued member ofthe University of Arizona's chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He worked on the Human Powered Vehicle Project, which aims to build a fully functional recumbent bicycle to meet ASME's requirements. He has also maintained a good GPA of 3.429 and has been on the Dean's List during multiple semesters. In addition to his varied academic responsibilities, he also works part-time for Raytheon. This past spring semester, Michael's senior design project was awarded the title of "Best Engineering Analysis." I have spoken with some of his teammates and they regard him highly for his desire to contribute to the team effort and maturity.
Michael successfully juggles a very busy schedule but he always takes the time to greet the people he encounters and I've never seen him without a smile. His gracious interactions with others speak volumes for his character.
Michael's desire to succeed and make a difference, through his studies and extracurricular involvement, speak highly of his integrity and strong work ethic. I give Mr. Lesnewski my highest recommendation.
Sincerely,
.L:

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH MUST BE PREPARED BYTHE STUDENT (Two Page Maximum)
Name: Michael Lesnewski Student ID# 02166435 _
Current Address: 1703 W. Sunridge Drive
Permanent Address: 1703 W. Sunridge Drive
Major: Mechanical Engineering US Citizen: Yes or No
Category 1: Academic Program and Goals (60 point total)
• Educational Purpose with Goals • My current educational goal is to be accepted into The University of Arizona's
Graduate School in order to obtain a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I see graduate school as the next natural and important progression of my educational career that will benefit me as I concurrently begin a career in the Aerospace Industry. My under graduate career has laid the framework for my success both academically and in up-and-coming career. I want to take every opportunity to advance my education.
• Academic Program A. 3.439, 136 units; 3.603 Major GPA
Minor: Mathematics; 3.538 Minor GPA B. During my undergraduate career my main focus was to receive a well-rounded understanding of the physical and mechanical principles that influence our everyday lives. Having this broad understanding will enable me to choose my own specific career specialty when the opportunity presents itself. (Graduate School will also enable me to choose a specialty). • Member of the Human Powered Vehicle Design Project which served both as a
University of Arizona Senior Project and an entry in the ASME sponsored Human Powered Vehicle Competition.
• Our Team won the 2012 "Best Engineering Analysis" Award sponsored by Raytheon at the 2012 Senior Design Day.
Category 2: University, College and Community Activities (40 point total)
• College Activities/Department Activities • ASME Student Chapter (Fall of 2009 to Spring 2012)
I was one of the original members of the student chapter of ASME, during its club revival in the fall of 2009 after a several year hiatus. I participated in club activities such as educational tours of university facilities as well as volunteer activities such as Ben's Bells. The club has steadily grown year after year to a point where the club can begin to participate in the University's "E Week". I also helped continue the HPV project (Human Powered Vehicle) as a club building project by allowing future students the opportunity to progress where we left off.
Y Employment: o Raytheon (summer of 2010 to Present): Working as a Manufacturing
Engineer supporting various product lines. o Obtained a Secret Security Clearance
Y Attach a current Academic Requirement Report (AAR) And Resume.
Y Make sure to submit materials to your department at least 2-3 days prior to the deadline below, in order to give them time to complete the process.
