Why does 24D, Banvel, Roundup or any contact herbicide work when sprayed on foliage and not put in soil solution?

How do these products work when using only ounces per acre? What makes a plant grow and prosper? Soils have been farmed for many years with hardly any

micronutrients applied soil or foliar. Why does a foliar application bring about immediate

improvement in plant health and growth? As nutrient demand increases in plants, the physiological capacity

to supply itself with abundant nutrients decreases. Increasing leaf activity increases chlorophyll; increasing

photosynthesis; increasing the need for water by the leaf; increasing water uptake which thus increases the uptake of nutrients from the soil.

"The biggest flexibility factor I've seen is in the herbicide application. If you are using a herbicide that has any volatility at all, the XRN is going to stick to that plant. It's going to hold that chemical right there. If you're using a fungicide, you're going to get longer results out of that chemical. I'm not so much after the nitrogen boost as I am trying to kill weeds. It just an added bonus to my program."

“I estimate that over 1 billion bushels of corn were lost over the last 2 years due to nitrogen shortage.”

Increases the plants ability to uptake water and fertilizer ions.

The smaller amount of fertilizer used actually increases the uptake in terms of total uptake over the amount of fertilizer applied. Researchers suggest a 6:1 return

Increases activity in the leaf, increases chlorophyll and thus

photosynthesis Increases need for water by the leaf Increases water uptake by the plants vascular system Increases uptake of nutrients from soil Increasing photosynthesis = increasing production and efficiency
