The Turtle Times Hello Rosebery PS families, I’d like to begin today’s newsletter with a huge THANK YOU. I am incredibly proud of our school community and all that we have achieved together in our first 6 months. The staff are to be commended on their amazing hard work – it’s indeed a very difficult job to start all aspects of a school from scratch. But they have shown determination and professionalism of the highest level to ensure that our students are learning and collaborating at a new level. Our parents have also been wonderfully supportive – it takes patience and understanding when the physical elements of the school are still being installed and when we are simultaneously building our culture and learning programs. You have been more than a support, but a critical component of our ongoing success. And our students – they have also thrilled me. We have a delightful body of students who smile and do their best each and every day. We have come to be very proud of them all. So, THANK YOU, again. Students will resume at school after the holidays on Tuesday 26 th July . There will be a Pupil Free Day on Monday 25 th July where our staff will be participating in a full day of learning on Restorative Practices. Restorative Practices are the underpinning feature of our work in behaviour management and wellbeing. On this topic, thanks so much to the parents who attended our parent information session on Tuesday night. It was a great night of conversation and learning – we’ll provide more of these opportunities in the future. We were hoping to have an oval by now, but as this isn’t the case, we decided to have an impromptu Sports Day today. It was plenty of fun and our thanks go to Mr.Morrison and his Health & PE Team for pulling it together. Next year’s Sports Day will be a much bigger event with focus on our houses – Menida (Green – Crocodile), Mamba (Blue – Dolphin), Balli (Red – Mudcrab) and Wamba (Black – Shark). We thank you for your patience this week as we had some disruptions to classes to allow our teachers some valuable Collaborative Planning opportunities. In a Co-Teaching partnership, it’s important to provide the teachers with real time to plan together so that next Term’s programs are exciting, engaging and chocked full of learning. The teachers did some fantastic work and I know you’ll be excited by the programs they roll out for students in Semester 2. The Front Office will be open in the final week of the holidays – July 18 th to 22 nd for anybody wishing to buy some uniforms, make some voluntary contributions, etc. I’d like to wish you all a fantastic holiday period. I hope you get some enjoying and relaxing time with family and friends. Holidays are a great time to get to know the kids again and I would encourage you all to look for opportunities to read with your child/ren at this time. This will keep them cued in to learning and it also builds an enjoyment of text that is invaluable in primary aged students. But most of all, have a safe break and I look forward to seeing you all again in the new semester. Background I’m from Melbourne originally but grew up in Katherine. What do you love about RPS ? I love the friendly staff and great students. What was the last book you read ? Eat, Pray, Love. What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you ? My brother came to school one day in his new car to pick me up wearing a shower cap on his head. He called out to me and humiliated me in front of all my friends and they laughed at me for weeks. What do you like to do in your spare time ? I love to read and go out for tea with my friends.

V8 SUPER CARS VISIT

Last Friday, Mr.Voigt had the opportunity to take some students to the V8s Supercars at Hidden Valley in the Chief Minister’s Marquee. Chloe, Nathan, Beatrice and Lincoln were chosen because they had shown exceptional friendliness and kindness to their fellow students and teachers. We enjoyed waiter service for our special lunch, cold drinks, ice creams and lollipops. The students even got a free V8s hat and had posters signed by some of the drivers. It was a great day. And we even had our photos taken with NT Chief Minister Paul Henderson!
