We have lots of up-coming events already in the works for the next six weeks (see page 3), and more are planned for later this year. In addition, we want to continue engaging others in the community to grow WRC’s mem- bership. WRC’s membership committee is awesome and is working hard to recruit new members and to make those who have recently joined feel wel- come. This means your help will be needed to make these events and pro- jects successful. If you are asked to help, please say “yes.” The FFRW Spring Conference was motivating and inspiring. We had wonderful speakers including RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day, NFRW President Carrie Almond, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, US Rep. Ron DeSantis, US Senate Candidate Todd Wilcox, and Agricultural Commis- sioner Adam Putnam, and others. There were break-out sessions on Diver- sity, Parliamentary Procedures and Growing Membership. Our new FFRW President, Dena DeCamp, and her board are working hard to make FFRW and Florida relevant to local, state and national politics! Letter from WRC - President

Dear WRC Members, The year 2016 has started off with a bang! WRC has a newly installed

WRC Board, Collier County Republicans opened a new headquarters and several of us attended a fabulous FFRW Conference in Altamonte Springs, where I presented 2 seminars on Growing Club Membership (thank you Pamela and all members of WRC’s Membership Committee for your hard work in successfully growing WRC’s membership).

We have lots of up-coming events already in the works for the next six weeks (see page 3), and more are planned for later this year. In addition, we want to continue engaging others in the community to grow WRC’s mem-bership. WRC’s membership committee is awesome and is working hard to recruit new members and to make those who have recently joined feel wel-come. This means your help will be needed to make these events and pro-jects successful. If you are asked to help, please say “yes.”

The FFRW Spring Conference was motivating and inspiring. We had wonderful speakers including RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day, NFRW President Carrie Almond, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, US Rep. Ron DeSantis, US Senate Candidate Todd Wilcox, and Agricultural Commis-sioner Adam Putnam, and others. There were break-out sessions on Diver-sity, Parliamentary Procedures and Growing Membership. Our new FFRW President, Dena DeCamp, and her board are working hard to make FFRW and Florida relevant to local, state and national politics! I’m sorry each and every one of you were not present at this Conference to share in the excite-ment in the air. Mark your calendars for the Fall Conference in November after the election. You won’t regret attending!!

In February, we’re looking to the early primary states to kick off the election year. The Iowa Caucuses are behind us and it’s on to New Hamp-shire and then South Carolina. Florida’s presidential primary will be here before you know it so the next few months are going to be chaotic. TODD WILCOX

Candidate for US Senate

Todd Wilcox is a decorated combat veteran, a former CIA case officer and a successful entrepreneur and business leader, recently recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 finalist. After earning his degree in finance, Todd was commissioned as an Infan-try Officer in the U.S. Army. He went on to serve as a rifle platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division in Operation Desert Storm. Upon pro-motion to Captain, Todd volunteered for a transfer to the U.S. Army Spe-cial Forces branch. After earning his Green Beret, he commanded a Spe-cial Forces A-Team in a counterterrorism role in East Asia. After 8 years of military service, Todd resigned to accept a position with the CIA to join

America’s global war on terrorism. While completing two years of Arabic studies and then serving from various U.S. Embassy postings in the Middle East and North Africa, Todd was also raising two daughters on his own as a single parent. His last assignment with the CIA was on the Joint Terrorism Task Force in the FBI field office in Orlando. In 2006, Todd resigned from government service and founded Patriot Defense Group, a defense contract-ing company dedicated to serving those who defend America. He grew his businesses to create more than 600 jobs and $65 million in gross revenue. He doesn’t just talk about hiring veterans, he’s made it a prior-ity. A majority of his employees are United States military veterans and former law enforcement because he knows they are among the elite our country’s workforce has to offer.

Todd founded two other companies. The combined business operations over the past nine years range from specialized security training for U.S. special operations to defending corporate clients against cyber-security attacks, and the ground delivery of the U.S. Postal mail to our troops in Afghanistan. Todd has proven that modern defense contractors can and MUST be assets to our military and not a drain on the tax payer. Todd’s business success has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal and through awards such as Or-lando Business Journal’s “Veterans of Influence.” His military and national security expertise earned him a seat on the board of directors of the National Defense University Foundation and the board of advisors for the Rand Corporation Center for Middle East Public Policy.

There are three issues that he has heard over and over again from people across our great state and that he believes are critical to restoring America’s prominence: national security, economic growth and defending our personal freedom.

Todd Wilcox expressed, “I am running for the United States Senate because ours is the greatest country in the world and I have lived my life based on the philosophy that those who can serve should.”

His hope is to take back our country and Restore America’s Prominence!

Todd is a devoted husband and father of three daughters. He lives with his family in Orlando.

Luncheon Price Increase

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Tiburon has been so gracious in keeping the cost of WRC’s luncheons as low as possible. However, Tiburon’s costs have increased and in turn, it has had to increase the cost of our lunch-eons. Effective with the January 8, 2016 luncheon, the prices for lunches will be as follows:

$30.00 WRC Members $35.00 Non-Members and Guests Please note that if you have not renewed your WRC 2016 membership dues by the February 12th luncheon meet-ing, you will be charged the non-member price of $35.00.

We are encouraging all members to make reservations and pay on-line at www.wrc-naples.com. However, if you do not wish to pay on-line, please send in your check payable to WRC to the WRC Treasurer at 28285 Insular Way, Bonita Springs, 34135.

Your check must be received no later than the Tuesday before each Friday luncheon. Effective with the February 12th luncheon, if you do not pay on-line and your check is not timely received, you will be charged the “at the door” price of $35.00 per person, even if you are a member.

FFRW Legislative Committee

At the FFRW Spring Conference, 1st VP Jean Wingo, announced that she is looking for currently pending bills in the FL House

that would of significant interest to FFRW. Once a bill is determined to be appropriate, Jean wants FFRW to support and en-

courage the passage of said bill. Jean is looking for FFRW members to assist her on this committee. If you are interested in

working with Jean on this project, please contact her at [email protected] for further information.

THE STORY OF SAN VALENTINE’S DAY

"The story of Valentine's Day begins in the third century with an oppressive Roman emperor and a humble Christian Martyr. The emperor was Claudius II. The Christian was Valentinus. Claudius had ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and had made it a crime punishable by death to associ-ate with Christians. But Valentinus was dedicated to the ideals of Christ; not even the threat of death could keep him from practicing his beliefs. He was arrested and imprisoned. During the last weeks of Valentinus' life a remarkable thing happened. Seeing that he was a man of learning, the jailer asked whether his daughter, Julia, might be brought to Valentinus for lessons. She had been blind since birth. Julia was a pretty young girl with a quick mind. Valentinus read stories of Rome's history to her. He described the world of nature to her. He taught her arithmetic and told her about God. She saw the world through his eyes, trusted his wisdom, and found comfort in his quiet strength. "Valentinus, does God really hear our prayers?" Julia asked one day. "Yes, my child, He hears each one." "Do you know what I pray for every morning and every night? I pray that I might see. I want so much to see every-thing you've told me about!" "God does what is best for us if we will only believe in Him," Valentinus said. "Oh, Valentinus, I do believe! I do!" She knelt and grasped his hand. They sat quietly together, each praying. Suddenly there was a brilliant light in the prison cell. Radiant, Julia screamed, "Valentinus, I can see! I can see!" "Praise be to God!" Valentinus exclaimed, and he knelt in prayer. On the eve of his death Valentinus wrote a last note to Julia, urging her to stay close to God. He signed it, "From your Valentine." His sentence was carried out the next day, February 14, 270 A.D., near a gate that was later named Porta Valentini in his memory. He was buried at what is now the Church of Praxedes in Rome. It is said that Julia planted a pink-blossomed almond tree near his grave. Today, the almond tree remains a symbol of abiding love and friendship. On each February 14, Saint Valentine's Day, messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world.

Judie Sanders March 25, 1945—August 2, 2015

As many of you know, longtime WRC Member Judie Sanders passed away suddenly from cancer on August 2, 2015 in Lexington, Kentucky. There will be no formal service, but there will be an opportunity for the family to greet Judie's friends and acknowledge your valued friendship at a gathering for Judie following the WRC Luncheon given by her children Christopher, Matthew and Mindy Langston on:
