Brethren,
We have exciting news this month. We read petitions for the Degrees. It has been a
while since we have had one of those. Don’t get me wrong, I love the petitions for affil-
iation, anything that grows the membership of the Lodge is great. The affiliations are a
pleasure, I so enjoy talking to the Brethren of other Jurisdictions and the differences
between our Lodges, but when they join, they just sign the By-laws. When we have a
petition for Degrees, we get to dust off the paraphernalia, and our rituals, and get to
practice our Craft. You have no idea how much pleasure it gives me to see this Lodge
perform the Degrees of the Order. You do it very well and I encourage all our Brethren
to come out and see the work performed by the members of this Lodge.
Remember, there are always parts available that you as members and/or visitors may
assume and participate in making new Masons.

We are entering the months of summer. Things are in bloom and getting a bit hotter. I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to see you soon at our stated meeting. I’m currently reading various articles and books on freemasonry and I found one that explains the tools in a simplistic, clear and spiritual way.
From "The Spirit of Masonry" - 1843
"The various instruments which we of this profession make use of, are all emblematical or picturesque of the conduct of life we ought to persevere in.
The RULE directs us to observe punctually every gospel duty; to press forward in the right path, neither inclining to the right nor left hand, for the sake of any transient amusement or gratification whatsoever; it forbids us to give into the least inclination or propensity into the curve of life, and reminds us to beware of the least tendency to a circle, either in religion or morals! - not to mind (because they have seldom any other than selfish views) neither outs, or ins in politics; and to have in all our conduct eternity in view. The LINE should make us pay the strictest attention to that line of duty which has been given us, or rather which was marked out to us, by our great Benefactor and Redeemer. It teaches us to avoid all kinds of double-dealing, both in conversation and actions; it points out the direct but narrow path that leads to a glorious immortality; and that sincerity in our profession will be our only passport thither. This line, like Jacob's ladder, connects heaven and earth together; and, by laying hold of it, we climb up to that place where we shall change this short line of time for the never-ending circle of eternity. The PLUME-LINE admonishes us to walk erect and upright in our Christian vocation; not to lean to a side, but to hold the scale of justice in equal poise; to observe the just medium between temperance and voluptuousness; to fathom the depth of our limited capacities, and to make our several passions and prejudices of education fall plumb in, or coincide with, our line of duty. The SQUARE will teach us to square all our actions by this gospel rule and line, and to make our whole conduct harmonise with this most salutary scheme. Our behaviour will be regular and uniform, not aspiring at things above our reach, nor pretending to things above our finite capacities, nor to affect things above what our circumstances can possibly bear. In our expenses, therefore, we shall neither ape those that are placed in a more exalted sphere, nor attend so much to the glitter of gold as to sink beneath our proper station; but we shall observe the golden mean, "And always to our acres join our sense, Because 'tis use that sanctifies expense." The COMPASSES will inform us that we should in every station learn to live within proper bounds, that we may, therefore, be enabled to contribute freely and cheerfully to the relief of the necessities and indigencies of our fellow-creatures. Hence we shall rise to notice, live with honour, and make our exit in humble hopes of compassing what ought to be the main pursuit of the most aspiring genius, a crown of glory. The LEVEL should advise us that, since we are all descended from the same common stock, partake of the like nature, have the same faith and the same hope through the redemption, which render us naturally upon a level with one another, that we ought not to divest ourselves of the feelings of humanity; and though distinctions necessarily make a subordination among mankind, yet eminence of station should not make us forget that we are men, nor cause us to treat our brethren, because placed on the lowest spoke of the wheel of fortune, with contempt; because a time will come, and the wisest of men know not how soon, when all distinctions, except in goodness, will cease, and when death - that grand leveller of all human greatness - will bring us to a level at the last. From hence, too, the sceptic, the shallow reasoner, and babbling disputer of this world, may learn to forbear the measuring of infinity by the dull level of his own grovelling capacity, and endeavour, by way of atonement for his insults upon every thing that tends to mankind, either good or great, to vindicate the ways of God to man. From your MALLET and CHISEL, you may likewise know what advantages accrue from a proper education. The human and unpolished mind, like a diamond surrounded with a dense crust, discovers neither its sparkling nor different powers, till the rough external is smoothed off, and beauties, till then unknown, rise full to our view. Education gives, what a chisel does to the stone, not only an external polish and smoothness, but discovers all the inward beauties latent under the roughest surfaces. By education our minds are enlarged, and they not only range through the large fields of matter and space, but also learn with greater perspicuity - what is above all other knowledge - our real duty to God and man.

Your TROWEL will teach you that nothing is united together without proper cement: no strict union, nor external polish can be made without it. And, as the Trowel connects each stone together by a proper disposition of the cement, so charity, that bond of perfection and of all social union (which I earnestly recommend to you all), links separate minds and various interests together; and, like the radii of a circle, that extend from the centre to every part of the circumference, makes each member have a tender regard for the real welfare of the whole community. But as some members will be refractory in every society, your Hammer will likewise teach you how to use becoming discipline and correction towards such like offenders. If they will not submit to rule, you may strike off the excrescences of their swelling pride, till they sink into a modest deportment. Are they irregular in their practices? Your Hammer will instruct you to strike off each irregularity, and fit them to act a decent part on the stage of life. Do any affect things above their stations? Your Hammer will teach you to press them down to their proper level, that they may learn, in the school of discipline, that necessary knowledge - to be courteous. What the HAMMER is to the workman, that enlightened reason is to the passions in the human mind: it curbs ambition, that aspires to its own and neighbour's hurt: it depresses envy, moderates anger, checks every rising frailty, and encourages every good disposition of the soul; from whence must arise that comely order, that delightful selfcomplacency, "Which nothing earthly gives or can destroy, The soul's calm sunshine, and the heart-felt joy." Thus, from our instruments may we all be instructed to raise a stately fabric of good works, upon the strong foundation of faith, that we may be fitted at last to inhabit that glorious house, not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens!"

IMPORTANT
Union Hills & 107th Ave intersection
to be closed May 4-21
The 107th Avenue and Union Hills Drive intersection will be closed
beginning 9 p.m. Friday, May 4, to realign two waterlines, a storm drain
pipe and drainage structure.
The intersection is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m., Monday, May 21.
Bell Road, Del Webb Boulevard, 115th Avenue and 99th Avenue may be
used as alternate routes. Access will be maintained at all times for emer-
gency vehicles.
The closure is required to construct a portion of the 115th Avenue and
Union Hills Drive project that will intercept flood water from the north-
east and carry it south to the Agua Fria River when complete. The pro-
ject is a partnership between Surprise, the Flood Control District of Mar-
icopa County, the city of Peoria and the Maricopa County Department of
Transportation.
The project is scheduled to be complete in June 2018, weather per-
mitting.
Sun City Masonic Investment Trust
The Sun City Masonic Center is governed by a Board of Sun City Lodge Trustees.
Providing a financial base for the expenses incurred in operating the Sun City
Masonic Center is an Investment Trust.
The Investment Trust is administered by 5 Trustees elected for 5 year terms of
office by members of Sun City Masonic Lodge. The Chairman of the Investment
Trust Board is Randall Sturdevant. Members of the Investment Trust must be
members of Sun City Masonic Lodge.
The Investment Trust Board oversees the investments and provides, pursuant to
the Trust Agreement, a quarterly amount that is distributed to assist with the op-
eration of the Sun City Masonic Center. The principal of the Investment Trust
was established through donations and contributions by members of the Mason-
ic groups using the Sun City Masonic Center. The Investment Trust continues to
need donations and contributions to maintain and grow a Trust principal that will
provide for the future operating expenses of the Masonic Center.
Donations and contributions that should be directed to growing the Investment
Trust need to be specifically identified for the Investment Trust and directed for
adding to the invested principal. Regular donations and contributions to Sun City
Lodge No 72 assist the Lodge with routine expenses but are not used to grow the
principal of the Investment Trust upon which the quarterly distributed amount is
based. Individuals and groups interested in exploring the opportunity to make a
direct contribution to growing the Investment Trust principal should contact Ran-

Past Master’s fellowship
The Past Masters meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 8:30 am.
Meetings are held at Sun City Lodge. Coffee and donuts are available.
All Past Master are welcome. You don’t have to be a Past Master from
Sun City Lodge # 72. Our purpose is to assist the Worshipful Master, the Officers, and the Lodge in

At the Club’s April meeting, Tom Lyle (finally) received his Certificate of Membership. A picture of
him and Club President Jeff Samuelson is below. The April meeting included an interesting presenta-
tion by Dave Harrower regarding the FBI and federal law enforcement.
On Thursday, 12 April, Dave Miller and Club President Jeff Samuelson traveled to Tucson to have
breakfast with the Sahuaro High 12 Club. During that breakfast meeting, Wolcott Foundation Chair-
man Michael Clark spoke about the Foundation. This is the High 12 International charity that funds
post-graduate scholarships in public service studies at George Washington University. Pictured be-
low is Jeff Samuelson as he presented Michael Clark with donations of over $500 for the Wolcott
Foundation from the Sun City West High 12 Club and several Club members.
At the Club’s meeting on Friday, 11 May, there will be a presentation by members of the local Salva-
tion Army regarding the West Valley Corps activity in the Clothe A Child Campaign. This is a cam-
paign that the Sun City West High 12 Club financially supports as a club and through individual mem-
ber participation. The May meeting will be the last monthly meeting before the Club begins the
Summer Luncheon program.
Any Master Mason is welcome to join the Sun City West High 12 Club in breakfast and meeting on
the 2nd Friday of the month. Spouses are welcome to join in the breakfast meal and attend the
meeting. The restaurant opens at 7:30 AM and breakfast is available at that time. When paying the
Golden Corral Restaurant, be sure to identify that you are eligible for those attending the Sun City
West High 12 Club meeting.
AMARANTH—NEW HORIZON COURT NUMBER 12
The 2017-2018 term for New Horizon Court #12 is coming to an end and CONGRATULATIONS are ex-tended to RM Linda Deere, DSRM, RP David Deere, DSRP, and the members of the Court on the ex-cellent job done in meeting the Terms goals. The Court worked hard this year to raise money to cover the Court expenses as well as another $750.00 for our Charity - the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation. Congratulations to ALL the members of New Horizon Court on your hard work! Elections were held, and Congratulations are extended to the following officers: Royal Matron, H.L. Leian Faulkner, PM; Royal Patron, S.K. Bryan Cooper-Keeble, DSRP; Associate Matron, H.L. Catherine Hosfield; Associate Patron, S.K. Craig Montgomery, DSRP; Conductress, H.L. Ramona Cantrell; Asso-ciate Conductress, H.L. Sandy Munster. Installation for New Horizon Court will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 27, 2018 and everyone is invited to attend. We hope you like cats because “the kittens are coming out to play in 2018-19!” Phoenix Court #1 will also be holding their Installation at Sun City Masonic Fellowship Center on Sunday, starting at 4:00 PM. Since many of us are members of both Courts, this day will be very special for all of us. As always, all members of Amaranth are invited to attend any of our meetings and New Horizon will give you a GREAT WELCOME. Meetings start at 7:00 pm and we usually hold a dinner at 6:00 pm, the proceeds of which, benefit the Court General Fund. If you come, please give HL Pat Zimmer-man, Secretary, a call (623-934-6777) so we know how much food to plan for. Hope to see you there!

I want to give a big THANK YOU to Princess Lillian Ryan for her many many years of
service and dedication to our order as Treasurer. Lillian has served as treasurer for
10+ years in Nile Club and Lady of the Gates for Qadesh No.35 for the same amount
of time if not more, This Lady is beautiful inside and out and her retirement from an
office in this order will be truly missed, just hope she continues to visit us and re-
mains healthy during this time.
Sun City Nile Club welcomes everyone to join us for our Membership Prospect
Teddy Bear Tea on May 20th, 2018 from 1 to 4pm at Sun City Lodge, For small cost of
$10.00 dollars and a New Teddy Bear that will be given to the kids at the Shriner Hos-
pital. All ages and Men are Welcome to attend.
We are still the home of the $1.00 lunch following our meetings on the 1st Monday
of each month right here at Sun City Lodge.

Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter Activity Update
April was a busy moth for the members and friends of Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter. Work continues on the transition from Paradise Valley DeMolay Chapter to Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter.
The month began with several full days of work at the AAE Arizona Archery Cup competition at the Ben Avery Ar-chery Range. Below are pictures of several of the members, Advisors, and parents that helped support the Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter efforts.
On Saturday, 14 April, the Chapter members were in Phoenix at the Arizona DeMolay Congress. This is an annual meeting of DeMolay members from around Arizona. At the day-long gathering, legislation was considered for the State DeMolay Association as well as the selection of State Officers for the next year. At the Congress, DeMolay State Officers for the 2018/2019 term were elected and Harrison Cantrell, a member of Glendale DeMolay Chapter and Sun City Lodge, was elected to be the State Master Councilor for the upcoming year.
At the end of April, the Chapter members took time to focus on Leadership Correspondence Course (LCC) comple-tions. This is a 5 course series that includes information on DeMolay history, organization, and necessary skills and knowledge to be a DeMolay Chapter leader
DeMolay is a Masonic youth organization for young men. To be eligible to join DeMolay, three simple requirements need to be met by the applicant. You are a young man between the ages of 12 and 21. You are of good moral charac-ter. And you believe in a supreme being (all religions welcome). DeMolay Chapters confer two degrees for member-ship. The members engage in a variety of service and fun activities. Service events include working with adult Ma-sonic groups and working in local community charity events. DeMolay members enjoy social activities with members of locally Masonic sponsored Rainbow Girl Assemblies and Job’s Daughter Bethels, as well as recreational events in-volving sports and electronic game challenges. The Chapter meetings are run by the youth Chapter officers with guidance from the Dad Advisor.
Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter regularly meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 4:00 PM at the Sun City Masonic Center. Currently, the following local Master Masons serve on the PV Chapter Advisory Council: Jim Almrud; Bryon Howe; Dave Lowry; Dave Miller; Craig Montgomery; and, Mike Rial. Job’s Daughters perform service projects to help their community and the less fortunate. We actively support the Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment (HIKE) Fund, which purchases hearing assisting devices for hearing impaired children.
Job’s Daughters offers the qualities that today’s young women want and need from organizations that earn their commitment: fun, friendship, helping others, and the chance to learn organizational and lead-ership skills.
The Bethel went on a "Mystery Trip" which means the Honored Queen plans a event without the daugh-ters knowing. This event consisted of different locations. They started out going to Wayfarer's Pig Out, and then they spent the day at the zoo.
On the following Sunday the daughters attended Peace Lutheran Church for their go to church Sunday.
On April 29, the Bethel has a Pajama Bunco. No, no one wore pajamas, the Bethel was collecting pa-jamas for the Pajama Program that Arizona has. These go to children that are put in the Foster Pro-gram. Everyone had a great time, and we supported a great cause.
Some upcoming events for the month of May:
Saturday, May 12, from 2-4pm, the Bethel is having a Paint Night Fundraiser. There is a flyer included with the details. This event is open to the first 25 people. The cost of this event is $25.
The Bethel meets on the 2nd
and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome, and we
enjoy visitors.

The Jobie-To-Bee program is designed especially for girls who are not yet old enough to join Job’s Daughters, but are looking forward to their future membership. SUN CITY CHAPTER 66 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
Sun City Chapter #66 is really cooking...The Queen of Hearts Tea was a fun time to be had by all with many family and friends attending, With Yummy food, and gracious looking tea tables...WOW. A lovely style show by Bon Worth with 5 of our Star models was enjoyed. In March the MWGM and MWGP sent a congratulations letter about in-creasing membership and awarded Sandy Munster PM with 6 bars to add to her Rob Morris pin. Remember to bring bedding and towels for U-Mom to our next meeting as well as blankets and toys for rescue dogs. We have had a wonderful year under the leadership of our WM Daina Mont-gomery and WP Craig Montgomery and look forward to a full retinue of offic-ers this spring. Peoria CHAPTER 59 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
The Chapter is still growing with an initiation ceremony on April 25th and another anticipated on May 9th. Sister Barbara Bruce was just initiated into our Chapter and we hope she enjoyed the cere-mony as much as we did in presenting it to her. We hope Sister Barbara will get involved in all our activities and have a wonderful time at our Chapter! Welcome aboard! One of the major activities of the Chapter is donating items to Elementary Schools for the Children. This year, we delivered over 1000 school items to the Dreaming Summit Elementary School. Items included pencils, paper, markers, scissors, glue, crayons to name just a few. The Chapter will contin-ue collecting items over the summer and we hope to make as large a donation during our next term. We also continue to collect the crushed plastic bottles with the monies earned from this activity go-ing towards our Education/Scholarship fund. The month of May is an ending and a beginning for the Eastern Star Chapters in Arizona. Most of the Chapters will be winding up the 2017-18 year and concentrating on the 2018-19 term. Peoria Chapter is no different. Our Chapter Farewell Dinner will be held on May 18th at the Iron Works Restaurant at the Bellair Golf Club, 17233 N. 45th Ave in Glendale and seating will start at 6:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. The Chapter has worked all year to collect items for the Crisis Bags and 500 of these will be filled on April 29th in the Jackson Room at the Lodge. Hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoos, conditioners, combs, brushes, hand cream, small packs of Kleenex, deodor-ants, razors, etc., will be bagged and delivered to several Crisis Centers in the Peoria area, who will then donate these items to women coming to their centers, often with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. We have been blessed to be able to assist those in need for many years and are proud and grateful that we are able to lend a helping hand. All are invited to our 2018 Installation to be held on May 26th starting at 2:00 pm. We are excited to see Sister Judy Baxter and Brother Bill Carnes take the positions of Worthy Matron and Worthy Pa-tron and are looking forward with anticipation to the 2018-2019 term at Peoria Chapter. The theme for the year will be Beginnings and Endings: “With every Ending, there comes a new Beginning,” and the thought: “When you forgive, you heal; when you let go, you grow.” The Sisters and Brothers of Peoria Chapter #59 wish all our Masonic Friends many happy beginnings!
