NOVEMBER IS
FOUNDATION MONTH
November 1, 2018
Volume 4 , Issue 9
The Rotary Foundation was
created in 1917 by Rotary
International's sixth president,
Arch C. Klumph, as an
endowment fund for Rotary "to
do good in the world." It has
grown from an init ial
contribution of US$26.50 to
more than US$1billion. It has
one of the largest and most prestigious international fellowship
programs in the world.
The Foundation focuses on six major area:
1. Growing Local Economies
2. Saving Mothers and Children
3. Providing Clean
4. Fighting Diseases
5. Improving Education
6. Promoting Peace Throughout the World
The Foundation is able to accomplish so much in the world because
of contribution from all of us. The primary method the Foundation
uses to distribute funds is through Global and District grants. Not all
the grants go to projects in other countries. Many clubs receive
money for projects in their own communities. Our club applied for
and received a district grant last year to send a student to the RYLA
program.
Please continue your generous support of our Rotary Foundation.

DISTRICT FOUNDATION DINNER
NOVEMBER 3rd-
Our District Foundation dinner is always one of the most popular events of the
year for 5180 Rotarians. We have reserved one table (maybe more) for our club. It
is an inspiring night that reinforces our knowledge of all the good things our
Foundation dollars do.
The theme is HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD
Saturday, November 3rd
6:00 pm (doors open at 5:30)
Double Tree Hotel
2001 Point West Way
$75 per person
If You Plan On Going, Please email Leigh-Ann Reinero. We want you to buy
tickets through us, so we can all sit at the same table.
THERE IS STILL TIME TO MAKE YOUR
RESERVATION FOR THE FOUNDATION DINNER
There will be a table decorating contest at the
dinner. The tables have to reflect the “Holidays Around
the World” theme. President Carol has pledged that
our Passport One Club will walk away with the top
prize. In fact, she told the Foundation Dinner Chair
Person to save time and just put
our name on the first place
award now.
There will be at least 45 tables at
the event, so the competition
will be fierce. Carol feels bad for
the other 44 tables that will pale
in comparison to ours. We will
take lots of pictures.

November marks the time of the
year when cold begins to set in.
When used as an adjective,
November means dreary. As a
month, November is from the root
word “novem” which means nine,
because in the Roman calendar,
there were only ten months in a
year. November birthday babies are:
November has two birthstones.

Our Golden Giving Chair, and Past District Governor, Janice Gage reports that the project
is going very well. We have ten patients assigned to us to visit and bring goodies to twice a
month. Jan’s update on Golden Giving is as follows:
We Hope You Can Visit Our Ten Friends in November
The people we are helping don’t have visitors, so when we come they are eager to talk, play
cards or just sit with them. They live at a senior care home in Auburn, and if you can go for a
visit, please contact Jan at [email protected]
The next two visits are on Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 am and Saturday,
December 15th at 10:00 am.
Jan shared the following about the last visit on October 30th. She wrote “Big Al, Al
Frumkin, helped me out and was a delight to the people we are helping. Al sang “Unchained
Melody” for the folks and one man with memory loss recalled something and started to cry
tears of pure joy. He was smiling brightly with tears just streaming. So, thank you Al for
being there and for singing something beautiful to them. They asked me to please bring you
back.”
This is what Golden Giving is all about.
Things the Residents Requested
Jan puts together little bags of essential items for our ten friends. She also asks for special
requests. Some of the things they wanted are: red lipstick, a cheeseburger with no onions,
some See’s candy and yarn...they also asked for our prayers. Of course, all their requests are
granted. Jan also bought each person a nice afghan blanket.
We Will Need More Donation in December
We are doing well for November, but we are hoping our members will bring more donations
of money or items at our December meeting. Also, Jan is going to get a list of each patients
specific needs. We will give one of the lists to any members who want to get items on their
lists and know that it gives them pleasure and gratification. We want to make the Christmas
season very special for our ten friends.
