As an approved centre of American Heart Centre, TNAI’s ITC is equipped with state-of- the-art facilities for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovasular Life Support (ACLS) systems. In the wake of increasing incidence of heart problems, skilled manpower to handle such cases is imperative. Schools & colleges of nursing, hospitals and health care organisations may consider deploying their staff/ faculty and students to participate in the short-term training programmes at TNAI so as to hone up their skills in these life- saving procedures. For details please refer TNAI website, and recent issues of TNAI Bulletin and NJI. The XXVII TNAI Biennial Conference in Goa during 11-16 December 2018 shall simul- taneously witness the TNAI Elections 2018 for various posts of TNAI. The list of candidates eligible to contest for the posts of President and Vice Presidents published in June 2018 issue of TNAI Bulletin, and also appears in this issue. Kindly ensure that you have a new TNAI Life Membership Card; without these you may have difficulty casting your vote. The new memberships card can be obtained free of cost from TNAI Hqrs. As for participation in various competitions of the Goa Conference, remember that last date for submission of entries for scientific papers, poster competitions, etc. is 31 August 2018. A health day of concern to nurses in the month is World Hepatitis Day (WHD) on 28 July, this year’s theme being Eliminate Hepatitis. The toughest challenge to manage hepa- titis is ignorance of those living with it. Out of the 325 million people living with viral hepatitis the world over, more than 300 mil- lion (90%) are unaware that they are living with the hepatitis B or hepatitis C. Scaling up the awareness and the diagnostic facilities is therefore top priority, otherwise it may not be possible to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030. On WHD, campaigns are launched to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, increase testing both at individual and policy level and improve linkage to care and treatment. Advice to SNA Units: It is learnt that some SNA Units have not yet sent their subscription for the year 2017-18 to TNAI Hqrs. All such Units are requested to kindly settle their dues by 31 July 2018. Emergence of TNAI’s ITC as State-of-art Training Centre forBLS, ACLS Training Facilities

As many of you are aware, the International Training Centre at TNAI’s Central Institute of Nursing & Research (CIN&R) in Greater Noida has started functioning. Asan approved centre of American Heart Centre, TNAI’s ITC is equipped with state-of-

the-art facilities for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovasular Life Support(ACLS) systems. In the wake of increasing incidence of heart problems, skilled manpowerto handle such cases is imperative. Schools & colleges of nursing, hospitals and healthcare organisations may consider deploying their staff/ faculty and students to participatein the short-term training programmes at TNAI so as to hone up their skills in these life-saving procedures. The XXVII TNAI Biennial Conference in Goa during 11-16 December 2018 shall simul-taneously witness the TNAI Elections 2018 for various posts of TNAI. The list of candidateseligible to contest for the posts of President and Vice Presidents published in June 2018issue of TNAI Bulletin, and also appears in this issue. TNAI Felicitates National Florence Nightingale Nurses’ AwardeesAs mark of honour to the National Florence Nightingale Awardees 2018, the TNAI felicitated the awardeesin its own way.

At a dinner hosted by Indian Nursing Council at Eros Hotel, New Delhi on 12 May 2018, all the 35awardees were conferred a memento.

The programme began with welcome speech of Mrs Anita Deodhar, President TNAI, who congratulatedthe awardees for having received the coveted National Florence Nightingale Award. She also mentionedthe efforts of TNAI in restoring these national awards after being held in abeyance for 21 years. At thisoccasion, Mrs Evelyn P Kannan, Secretary-General briefly introduced the TNAI through a short film, TNAI’sMilestones Since 1908 to 2008. This wasfollowed by presentation on recent activi-ties of TNAI by Mr Ajinas AM, and an-nouncing the names of awardees by MrsSanghamitra Sawant, both Asst SecyGeneral. The awardees were felicitatedby Mrs Anita Deodhar, President TNAI;Ms Surekha Sama, Vice President, NorthRegion, TNAI; Dr Rathi Balachandran,ADG Nursing, MoHFW; Mrs AshaSharma, Vice Present INC; Mrs RanjeetKaur, Secretary, INC.

The programme concluded with voteof thanks by Dr (Mrs) CN Bhargavi, HonyTreasurer, TNAI. She appreciated theefforts of INC and MoHFW in scrutinis-ing the entries, conveyed thanks on be-half of TNAI and congratulated theawardees for their meritorious efforts.

TNAI ELECTION 2018Election Notice

The TNAI election 2018 will be held on 13.12.2018 at Goa. The list of eligibility conditions for the offices of (a) President,TNAI, (b) Vice Presidents, TNAI (Regionwise) are published here.

Instructions and eligible criteria for various posts:

1. Office of the President, TNAI:a. Any life member of TNAI may make nominations for the office of President.b. The Nominations for the President shall be made only from life member of TNAI who has served for atleast 2 terms of 4 years each (eight years) on the Council of TNAI.

2. 5 Regional Vice Presidents:The nomination for 5 Vice Presidents shall be made only from Life members of TNAI who have served for at least fouryears (one term) on the Council.North Region: Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh,

Rajasthan, Haryana, ChandigarhNorth East Region: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, SikkimEast Region: West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, OdishaWest Region: Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, GoaSouth Region: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry (UT).

3. Office of the Hony. Treasurer, TNAI:The nomination for Hony Treasurer shall be made only from LIFE members of TNAI. The member nominated as Hony.Treasurer shall be from the place where the Headquarters is located, at present Delhi.

4. Office of Hony. Secretary, Health Visitors’ League(HVL):A candidate eligible for nomination to the post of Hony Secretary, Health Visitors’ League, should be an active memberof Health Visitors’ League or a Public Health Nurse who should be a life member of the TNAI.

5. Office of Hony. Secretary Midwives and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives’ Association:A candidate eligible for nomination to the post of Hony Secretary M&ANM Association should be an active member ofM&ANM Association or a Public Health Nurse who should be a life member of the TNAI.

Note:1. The members who are residing outside the country shall not be eligible to contest election.2. Members who are, or had been, involved in litigation with the Association without first representing their grievances to

the Committee on Disputes and Grievances shall not be eligible to contest, and shall have no voting rights. The samewill be applicable to members who are facing disciplinary proceedings in their work situation.

3. The person so elected for a particular office at branch level shall hold the office for the full term (four years) and shallnot contest and cross to another office prior to completion of the term of her/his existing elected office.

4. Ex-officio and co-opted members term shall not be counted for TNAI Elections and also the term(s) of those holdingelected office(s) for interim period.

5. The Election for the various posts are held for a term of four years and not for any lesser period. A member is electedfor a full term of four years on the Council. Any breach in completing the term with less than 4 years (1 term) will notqualify a person for nomination to any office. MERITORIOUSMaj Gen Annakutty Babu

Maj Gen Annakutty Babu assumed the post of Additional Director-General, Military Nursing Ser-vice on 1 May 2018. After the Genral Nursing from School of Nursing, INHS Asvini, she wascommissioned into Military Nursing Service on 30 December 1979. She completed midwiferytraining from 167 Military Hospital, Pathankot. After completing Diploma in Orthopaedic Nursingin 1995 from AFC Pune, she was posed to hospitals with orthopaedic centres. In quest for igherstudies, she studied PGDHHM from Symbiosis from Symbiosis Institute, Pune and MBA in Hos-pital Administration from Subharti University in 2017.

As Principal Matron at various hospitals, she encouraged safe patient care practices and mak-ing an environment of trust and mutual respect among nursing officers for best care to the clients.The General Officer served as DDGMNS (Admin) at the Dte Gen Med Services (Army) duringAugust 2015 to September 2017. On 1 October 2017, on promotion to the rank of Maj Gen, she assumed the appointment ofPrincipal Matron, Army Hospital Research & Referral (RR), the apex quaternary care hospital of Armed Forces.

An excellent role model for the juniors, the General Officer believes that nurses can win their patients with theirtherapeutic touch, soft skills and sound professional knowledge. For her exemplary contributions to the Military NursingService, she was awarded ‘Chief of Army Staff Commendation’ and ‘National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award 2018’.

Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing, Sri Ramachandra Uni-versity, Porur, Chennai: The lamp lighting and graduation cer-emony of Sriramachandra School and College of Nursing was heldon 21 February 2018 at University Auditorium of Sri RamachandraMedical College. The programme began with prayer followed byUniversit Anthem. The chief guest Dr Sailaxmi Gandhi, who wasintroduced by Prof (Dr) SJ Nalini, I/c CON, asked students to carryforward ‘SMILE (Self-Care, Mindset, Image of Nursing, Listeningand Empathy)’ in their daily life. The dignitaries lighted Kuthuvillakku.Prof (Dr) R Poongodi, Asst Professor, CON highlighted the sig-nificance of lamp lighting. Prof (Dr) SJ Nalini, I/c CON lighted theNightingale lamp and transferred luminosity to 11 senior nursingleaders. Annual report of CON was highlighted by Mrs V Sujatha,Reader, CON. Prof PV Vijayaraghavan, Vice Chancellor felicitatedthe chief guest and distributed the prizes to top scorers. The VCsaid that nursing is an integral part of healthcare system and congratulated faculty for their support and contribution to integratingnursing services and education. The graduate response was given by Ms Jayaprathipa, Diploma in Nursing and Ms Sushila of MScNursing. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr A Porkodi, Reader, CON.

3. One member can present one paper only.

4. Maximum Two authors can present one paper.

TNAI Salute Mrs. Lini Puthussery:“Nurse who died battling Nipah Virus”

As mark of homage and respect to Lini Puthussery, who lost her life whilesaving the Nipah virus victim.Lini Puthussery, a 28 year old nurse, wrote this note to her husband as shewas dying from the deadly Nipah virus on Monday in India’s southern stateof Kerala. She has two sons, aged five and two.Lini was one of the nurses who took care of Mohammed Sadik, the firstvictim of Nipah virus in Kozhikode district. She reported to have startedfeeling feverish on Sunday. When she realized that she was experiencingwhat could be symptoms of the infection, she admitted herself to hospitaland asked to be quarantined, according to local media reports.Last words of Lini, she called her husband and said: ‘I am sick and I am going to the hospital fortreatment. “I don’t think I will be able to see you again. Sorry. Please raise our children well.”The entire Nursing Fraternity Salute her for her dedication and commitment. May, God, theAlmighty, grant peace to the noble soul and strength & courage to the bereaved family, colleaguesspecially to her husband and children to bear the irreparable loss!May her soul rest in peace!

The researcher / presenters should be a Member of TNAI. The word limit for the scien-tific paper presentation are 2000. Enclose separate sheet for author / authors nameand a paragraph of bio data, complete address, phone number, email, and TNAI num-ber.

All the presenters should register for the conference. No TA DA will be provided to thepresenters.

The TNAI will be awarding certificate along with the credit hours to the presenters. Thedelegates / participants will get the participation certificate along with the 16 credithours purely based on the registration and attendance.
