Join in!Wakefield is proud to host the start of the final day of the Tour de Yorkshire, a race created following the hugely successful Yorkshire Grande Départ of the Tour de France in 2014.
The Tour de Yorkshire is a prestigious event - with many opportunities for you to get involved and see the action up close. Pictures from the race will be beamed around the world.
There are three spectator hubs - one in the city centre where the riders set off, one at The Hepworth and one at Castle Grove Park, Manygates, opposite the official start. You can also line the route and watch as the elite riders jostle for position, competing to claim the first-ever victory in the Tour de Yorkshire.
Why not make a day of it with the family? There will be lots of activities in Castle Grove Park on the day and The Hepworth is holding a family fun day. You’ll get a great view of the action from the gallery’s garden.
So come on, get involved. Line the streets. Dress in blue and yellow. Paint your face or spray your hair. Let’s show the world what Wakefield has to offer.

As with the Grand Départ of the Tour de France last summer, local residents and visitors to the district will want to get behind the event and have a fantastic weekend.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a free major sporting event and see some of the world’s greatest athletes up close. We hope you’ll be part of the event and celebrations.
We’re hosting three spectator hubs in Wakefield, although people will be able to watch the race at most locations along the route.
What’s on at the Wakefield City Centre spectator hub• 2 large digital viewing screens
• See cyclists up close as they sign on to the race on the podium
• Ceremonial start at approximately 12.15pm

• Line the streets and cheer the riders
What’s on at The Hepworth spectator hub To celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire, The Hepworth Wakefield is having a weekend of free family fun including outdoor art activities, paper sculpture workshops and pop-up Art Pods. On Sunday 3 May, the gallery’s garden will give spectators one of the best views of the race as it speeds past. Details can be viewed online at www.hepworthwakefield.org/whatson/tour-de-yorkshire
The Tour de Yorkshire is a great example of what elite athletes can achieve but we can’t all reach that level of success.
We’re aiming to Get Wakefield Moving so that everyone can reap the health benefits of being more active.
From running around in the park to running around a track, playing ball games, taking the stairs or doing a spot of gardening, there are lots of ways to have fun and stay healthy.
Even getting off the bus a stop early or parking the car further away from your destination will sneak some exercise into your day in a way you’ll barely notice.
Adults should aim for 30 active minutes a day, 5-18 -year-olds an hour and under 5s three hours every day. How will you get yours? Get ideas and inspiration at www.wakefield.gov.uk/movemore
