World No.21 Joshna lost the last-eight battle 1-3 in 43 min- utes thus ending India's cam- paign in the event. Joshna, 27, came back well after trailing 0-2 but World No.4 Joelle reacted quickly to take the fourth game with ease - 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 11-1. In 2003, Joshna had become the first Indian girl to win the Brit- ish Squash Championship title in the under 19 category, at Shef- field, U.K and was also the youngest Indian women's na- tional champion. The Interna- tional boxing association (AIBA) on Fri- day lifted the provisional suspension of country’s boxers after its executive com- mittee decided to give Boxing India an op- portunity to handle the administration of the sport in the country. “The AIBA executive committee has approved the application of Boxing India – ‘The bout outside the ring’ – as provisional new AIBA member for India until ratified by the AIBA Congress, following recom- mendations by the AIBA’s evaluation com- mittee,” AIBA president Dr Ching-Kuo Wu said in his letter to Narayna Ramachan- dran, president of the India Olympic Asso- ciation The group — Boxing India — a combi- nation of corporate bosses and long-serv- ing officials will be led by Indian boxing’s primary sponsor Monnet Ispat Ltd’s CMD Sandeep Jajodia and WSB’s former India franchise owner Udit Sheth. They have been supported by Maharashtra Boxing Association president Jay Kowli and other sport enthusiasts. “Now, the newly selected Boxing India should submit its plan to hold as soon as possible a General Assembly to conduct the elections for its executives which should also be approved by AIBA,” AIBA’s release said. The Indian Amateur Boxing Federa- tion (IABF) was provisionally suspended in December 2012 due to alleged manipula- tion in elections. After the federation failed to follow the AIBA statutes and by- laws, the apex body decided to provisional- ly exclude its oldest member from AIBA membership. “It is an honour that AIBA appreciated the proposal put forth by us. We will sup- port the principles of AIBA in terms of ethics and fairness and work within the framework to further enhance various boxing programmes in the country. We look forward to forming a new federation by holding free and fair elections and adopting the new constitution,” Sandeep Jajodia said in a media release. India’s representative at the AIBA, Kishen Narsi, said he was glad that the in- ternational body had shown showed in a new body. “The news is very heartening for all the stakeholders of boxing. I look for- ward to an early formation of a new boxing federation duly supported by IOA and rec- ognized by sports ministry,” Narsi said.
